About Talkie: Creative AI Community

Talkie is free to download and chat in, paid for by ads and a monthly Talkie+ tier. It lets you talk to AI characters, called Talkies, by text or voice call, and build your own with a generated image, a written profile and an adjustable voice. Replies come from MiniMax models, not people. The trade-offs are ad breaks, finite memory and a privacy policy that lets chats improve the chatbot.

Talkie Review: Voice and Face Tools, Paid for in Ad Breaks

Free Use, Talkie+ and a shop priced $0.49 to $199.99

The Terms of Service sort users into two programs: Free Use and Talkie+, described as full access to the services. Free Use is the entry tier, and the developer keeps the right to withdraw it from anyone. Google Play flags both ads and in-app purchases, with single items priced from $0.49 to $199.99. Recent Play reviewers name ad breaks as their most frequent complaint and link them to chat limits and waiting times. The website also lists Talkie Claw, a beta that lets characters message you on Telegram or Discord; it is free during the beta, and its page lists 20 free messages before Diamond billing by reply length. Recharges are generally non-refundable, except for system errors or duplicate charges. Prices are regional and can change, so check the offer screen before paying.

Create flow: Face Reference, a locked Gender field and 10 to 60 seconds of voice

The Create screens on the Play listing show where the effort went. The profile form asks for a Name, a Gender, an Intro that other people can read and an Opening line, with an AI Writer button to draft them. Gender is labelled unchangeable after creation. The image tool takes an optional reference photo with Face Reference and Style Reference switches, a prompt box and several art styles at once, including Realism, Anime and Wonderland. Voice has its own editor: pitch runs from -12 to 12, speed from 0.5 to 1.5, and Voice Cloning asks for a 10 to 60 second recording in a quiet room. A note on that screen says only your own voice can be cloned, and the call screen states that everything said is generated by AI.

Memory limits, the 14+ age floor and an export that skips chats

The developer's FAQ admits that memory capacity is limited, so older conversations are forgotten, which caps how long a story can run. The privacy policy says the chatbot learns from your interactions to improve conversations, and that conversation content is never used for marketing or advertising. Advertising partners may collect device details such as IP address and advertising ID, but not chats. The terms set a minimum age of 14, or 16 in a list of countries. Export Data returns only email, username, gender and age, not chat history. Deleting the account permanently erases conversations, while your Talkies stay up with the creator shown as Null. The service is operated from the United States.

Pros

  • Voice Cloning needs only a 10 to 60 second recording of your own voice
  • Image tool offers Face Reference, Style Reference and several art styles per generation
  • Developer says over 50,000 new characters are created every day
  • Voice calls carry an on-screen note that all speech is AI-generated
  • Account deletion permanently erases all conversations, with no recovery
  • Self-harm detection shows a notification with crisis referrals, including 988 in the US

Cons

  • Ads are the most common complaint in recent Play reviews, often tied to chat limits
  • Memory is finite: the FAQ says older conversations are forgotten
  • A content filter can interrupt roleplay; reviewers report change-the-topic notices on mild lines
  • Data export covers only email, username, gender and age, not your chats

Verdict

The score rewards the creator toolkit: an image generator with Face Reference, a voice editor that clones your own voice from 10 to 60 seconds of audio, and voice calls, all in one free download. It loses points on ad breaks, finite memory and a privacy policy that lets chats improve the model. Take it if you want to build and voice your own characters. Skip it if you want ad-free chat, long memory, or an app for young children.

Core function8.0Text and voice-call roleplay, image creation and voice cloning in one app; finite memory holds it back.
Ease of use7.5Guided Create forms with an AI Writer helper make building a Talkie easy; topic nudges interrupt scenes.
Monetisation5.5Ads break chats, items run $0.49 to $199.99 each, recharges are largely non-refundable, and no Talkie+ price is published officially.
Performance6.5Needs Android 8.0 or newer; reviewers report freezing around ads and characters that lose context between sessions.
Privacy & permissions6.0Chats help train the chatbot, ad partners get identifiers, export omits chats, and permissions include camera, microphone and location.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Talkie AI free to use?

Yes, you can download it and chat for free, but it is not ad-free: Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases from $0.49 to $199.99 per item. The Terms call the free tier Free Use and say the developer can deny it to anyone. Talkie+ is the paid program, billed monthly through the store.

2

Can you clone your own voice on Talkie?

Yes. The Edit Voice screen has a Voice Cloning option that asks you to read a short passage in a natural tone in a quiet room, recording between 10 and 60 seconds. A note on the screen says it only supports cloning your own voice. Pitch (-12 to 12) and speed (0.5 to 1.5) sliders sit above it.

3

How much does Talkie+ cost?

The official site and Terms do not publish a Talkie+ price, so check the offer in Google Play before paying; prices are regional and can change. The Terms say subscriptions bill monthly through the store, renew automatically until cancelled, and can be cancelled only in that store. Partial months are not refunded, and recharges are generally non-refundable.

4

Does Talkie work offline, and can I export my chats?

No to both. Characters reply through the developer's servers, so a connection is required, and the privacy policy says the service is operated from the United States. Export Data returns only email, username, gender and age, not conversations. Deleting the account permanently erases conversations, but your Talkies remain with the creator shown as Null.

5

Is Talkie AI safe for kids, and what are the alternatives?

Talkie is not built for children: Google Play rates it Teen, and the Terms set a minimum age of 14, or 16 in a list of countries. The guidelines ban explicit and suggestive material, and a crisis notification points to 988 in the US. We do not certify any chatbot as safe. Character AI and Chai are the closest alternatives; ChatGPT suits general questions.
