Best Weather Apps on Mobile, Ranked by Our Scores
Windy.com wins this list at 7.8: fifteen forecast models on free, ad-free maps, and an Apple privacy label with no tracking in it. If you want a plain
Today Weather is free to use, paid for by native ads rather than full-screen ones; Premium removes them and unlocks extra data sources, radar features and icon sets. Built since 2017 by Ho Chi Minh City developer Tho Tran, it lets you pick the forecast provider, from the National Weather Service to the UK Met Office or ECMWF. The 2026 catch: Android widgets that sometimes stop refreshing.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
The free tier includes the radar, severe weather alerts, air quality, UV and pollen readings, the widgets and the community photo feed. Ads pay for it, but the developer's FAQ says they are native placements only, never full-screen, and the privacy policy names Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network among its ad partners. Of the 150 newest English reviews on Google Play, posted July 4 to September 29, 2026, four mention ads and none describes a full-screen one. Premium removes the ads and, per the App Store listing, unlocks extra radar features and unlimited icon sets; developer replies add more data sources. Which sources sit behind the paywall isn't published, so check the list in Settings before you buy.
The Android listing leads with NOAA/NWS data, and the official site names 33 providers, including the Met Office, ECMWF, Apple WeatherKit and Korea's KMA. Forecasts, radar and air quality each have their own source setting, so a new forecast provider changes temperatures and hourly rain but leaves the radar map alone. The developer says weather.gov data passes through unmodified. On the radar, OPERA in Europe and a NOAA/NWS beta in the U.S. can show past, current and forecast frames, while RainViewer now gives current and past frames only. The September 2026 Android release added storm tracks that plot a system's forecast path. One limit: place names come from Google's geocoder, and reviews from August and September 2026 flagged wrong place names.
The U.S. App Store lists a $17.99 Premium Membership and two Premium Subscription tiers at $2.99 and $6.99, while Google Play lists in-app items from $0.99 to $18.99. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region. The developer's FAQ confirms a lifetime option, but a purchase stays where you made it: Android Premium is bound to the Google Play account and iOS Premium to the Apple ID, with no transfer between them. The same FAQ covers buyers who still see ads, blaming Google account mix-ups, and lifetime owners reported ads returning on Google Play in 2022 and on the App Store in 2025.
On the U.S. App Store, The Weather Channel charges $9.99 a year for Ad Free and $29.99 a year for Premium, and AccuWeather charges $29.99 a year for Premium+, so the $17.99 Premium Membership costs less than one year of either rival's top plan. Both rivals carry the Contains ads badge on Google Play and report 100M+ installs, against 1M+ here; AccuWeather also sits in this app's provider list. Reliability is the weak point: nine of the 150 newest English Play reviews describe a widget, the ongoing notification or the forecast that stopped refreshing, or a widget that would not add. The developer points to Settings > Troubleshooting and battery exemptions. Prices vary by region.

We scored Today Weather 7.6 for choice: forecast, radar and air-quality sources you set separately, NOAA/NWS forecast radar, and native ads instead of full-screen ones. Points come off for 2026 widget refresh failures and privacy labels that disagree between the stores. Take it if you want to compare the National Weather Service with other models or prefer a one-off purchase to a yearly plan. Skip it if you rely on a home-screen widget updating on its own, or if you switch between Android and iPhone.

Yes. Forecasts, the radar, severe weather alerts, air quality, pollen and the widgets work without paying, supported by native ads; the developer says it doesn't use full-screen ads. Premium removes the ads and unlocks more data sources, extra radar features and unlimited icon sets, though which sources are Premium-only isn't published.
Yes. The source is chosen in Settings, and the official site lists 33 providers, including the National Weather Service, the UK Met Office, ECMWF, AccuWeather and Apple WeatherKit. Forecast, radar and air-quality sources are set separately, so switching the forecast provider doesn't change the radar map. Some sources require Premium.
On the U.S. App Store it is listed as a $17.99 Premium Membership or as Premium Subscription tiers at $2.99 and $6.99, and Google Play shows in-app items from $0.99 to $18.99. A lifetime option exists, but purchases don't transfer between Android and iOS. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
Not if you stay on the same platform and account. Android Premium is tied to the Google Play account that bought it and iOS Premium to the Apple ID, so moving between Android and iPhone means buying again. Cancel subscriptions in the store's settings; the terms rule out refunds unless law or store rules require them.
Apple's privacy label suggests it can: precise and coarse location, device ID and advertising data may be collected for third-party advertising, though not linked to you. Google Play's Data safety form lists no location and no sharing. The privacy policy names AdMob and Meta Audience Network, and the developer says AdMob doesn't run for Premium users.
