Live TV Needs a Pay-TV Login; Breaking Events and Clips Do Not

Fox's help center draws the line plainly: streaming Fox News Channel's regular programming requires a pay-TV package that carries the channel, while major breaking-news events and on-demand programming are available without one. In the app, the login sits under For You, then Settings, then Log in to Watch Live TV, and Fox's provider list names 479 cable, satellite and telco services. A provider login should stay valid for at least 30 days. On foxnews.com, Fox allows up to 10 minutes of the live channel before asking for credentials. The app sells no subscription of its own, so viewers without cable have to buy access elsewhere, through FOX One or a live-TV service.

Watch and Listen Tabs: Picture-in-Picture, Google Cast and Offline Reading

Video plays in a picture-in-picture window, so a clip or the live stream keeps running while you scroll articles. Fox's help pages say you can cast from the phone app to a Chromecast, and the iPhone version gained native Google Cast support in September 2026. The Watch tab adds a Continue Watching shelf and vertical Shorts. Listen carries podcasts plus a live radio stream called Who's on Now; on iOS, a May 2026 update added episode downloads. Without a connection, you get the articles cached at your last sync but no video. The Games tab offers daily puzzles such as 5 Across, Sudoku and Scattergories Daily, and some articles embed Kalshi prediction-market widgets.

No Ad-Free Tier, and Ads That Open While You Scroll

Google Play shows the Contains ads badge and the App Store age rating lists Advertising, yet neither store offers an in-app purchase, so ads cannot be paid away. Of the 150 newest English-language Play reviews, posted between September 12 and October 1, 2026, 91 gave one or two stars, 69 mentioned ads and 35 named Walmart, mostly ads that open when a finger brushes them mid-scroll. Apple's label lists contact info, identifiers and usage data as used to track you, and the privacy policy effective July 1, 2026 says some ad-related disclosures may count as a sale or share under California law. Your Privacy Choices in the app's settings is the opt-out.

FOX One at $19.99 vs CNN All Access and the NBC News Subscription

Without cable, Fox's own route to the live channel is FOX One, a separate streaming service at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year that carries Fox News, Fox Business, FOX Weather and local FOX stations; adding FOX Nation raises the monthly price to $24.99, and some plans start with a 7-day trial. FOX Nation alone costs $8.99 a month in its own app. CNN's app costs less for the same need: a 5-minute live preview, then All Access at $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, bought inside the app. NBC News sells a $5.99 monthly subscription that includes streaming NBC News NOW.
