A Fortnite account is an Epic Games account, and it is deleted from the account settings page at epicgames.com/account: scroll to Delete Account, confirm, enter the security code sent to the linked email, pick a reason, and the account is disabled on the spot. Epic's help page gives two clocks — you can reactivate within 14 days simply by logging in, and the deletion becomes permanent after 30 — and one warning worth reading twice: every purchase, item and piece of progress goes with the account, and nothing is refunded. On iPhone the same request can be started from the game's own settings. Below are the exact steps from Epic's page, what to do before them, and the child-account route.
Before you start
Understand what is being deleted. Fortnite has no account of its own — it runs on the Epic Games account, which is also the account for the Epic Games Store, Rocket League and Fall Guys. Deleting it deletes all of them. Epic's page: this process removes "all purchases, in-game progress, and items associated with your Epic Games account," and "purchases will not be refunded upon account deletion." V-Bucks, skins, the Battle Pass, every locker item — gone.
Spend or refund first. Epic's own advice is that if a purchase is eligible for a refund, request it before deleting. Unspent V-Bucks cannot be refunded for cash; spend them or write them off. If a Fortnite Crew subscription is active, cancel it where it is billed — the App Store or Google Play on a phone, Epic directly if bought through the Epic Games Store — because deleting the account does not reach a store subscription.
Check the email. The security code goes to the email linked to the Epic account; if you cannot receive mail there, change the address in account settings first, or the request cannot be confirmed.
Check whether it is a child account. Epic's page notes that a child whose parent did not help set up the account may have a cabined child account with different features; parents deleting a child's account can follow the same steps or use Epic's parent support form.
Step 1. Sign in to the Epic account settings
Go to epicgames.com/account in a browser and sign in with the account being deleted. The account settings page opens. On iPhone, Epic notes that the same request can be started from Delete Account in the game's settings — it leads to the same flow.
Step 2. Request deletion
Epic's steps:
- Scroll to the Delete Account section and select Delete Account.
- A warning appears. Select Delete Account again to confirm.
- Enter the security code sent to the email linked to the account.
- Select Continue.
- In the next window, choose the reason for deleting from the drop-down menu and select Continue.
An "Account disabled" notice confirms the request. Within a few seconds you are signed out everywhere, and the account is disabled.
Step 3. Know the two clocks
Epic's page states both. For 14 days after the request, the account can be recovered: log in, and select Reactivate account. Epic is explicit that reactivating within that window cancels the deletion. After the window closes, the deletion is irreversible, and the account is permanently removed 30 days after the request.
During the whole period, the email address and any linked external accounts — Apple, Google, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam — are treated as "already in use." A new Epic account cannot be created with the same email until the deletion completes, and the console or platform accounts cannot be linked to a different Epic account in the meantime.
If it does not work
No security code arrives. The linked email is wrong or unreachable. Cancel the request by logging back in, update the email under account settings, confirm it, and start again.
You see an error at the Delete step. Epic has a separate help article for exactly this; the usual causes are an active subscription, a pending refund or a recent purchase. Resolve those and retry.
You changed your mind. Within 14 days, sign in at epicgames.com/account and select Reactivate account. After 14 days, Epic states the process cannot be undone.
The console account is stuck. A PlayStation, Xbox or Switch account linked to the deleted Epic account stays "in use" until the 30 days are up. There is no way to shorten that, so unlink the platform accounts before requesting deletion if you want to reuse them sooner.
It is a child's account and you cannot get in. Use Epic's parent contact form, which handles deletion requests from a parent or guardian without the account password.
