About Taskrabbit - Handyman & more

The Taskrabbit app is free, with no ads or in-app purchases: you pay a Tasker's hourly rate plus a Service Fee and a Trust & Support fee, each a percentage of every hour worked. IKEA retailer Ingka Group has owned the marketplace since 2017, and it runs in eight countries. The weak spot is reliability: 139 of the 150 newest Google Play reviews give one or two stars.

Taskrabbit Review: Vetted Taskers, Unpublished Fee Rates, a $1,000 Safety Net

One-Hour Minimum, 15-Minute Billing and Two Fees on Every Hour

In most categories, Taskers set their own hourly rates, shown on each profile beside ratings and task counts. Every hourly task bills at least one hour, then in 15-minute increments, and a Tasker may opt into a two-hour minimum. Two platform fees sit on top, each a percentage of the hourly rate charged for every hour worked; expenses and tips are exempt. The help center never states the percentages. The company's cost guide, updated September 1, 2026, puts the Trust & Support fee at usually 5–15% of the task price, yet the checkout mock-up in its App Store screenshots shows $10 on a $40 rate. California and Massachusetts invoices show a single Service Fee. Rates vary by city and can change.

Checkr Background Checks and Taskprotect's $1,000 Ceiling

Every US Tasker passes an identity check and a criminal background check covering national, local and sex offender databases, run through vendors including Checkr and Persona. A hired Tasker can bring a registered assistant once you approve it in the chat. If something breaks, Taskprotect may pay up to $1,000, at the company's discretion, for property damage, injury or theft, claimed within 30 days and only on the website. Your own homeowner's or renter's insurance pays first, and water damage, wall beds and theft without a police report are excluded. In 2023, NBC Los Angeles reported the older Happiness Pledge at up to $10,000 for property damage, a name the Play listing still uses.

The 24-Hour Cancellation Fee and Taskers Who Cancel First

Cancelling within 24 hours of the start, or being unreachable when the Tasker arrives, costs one hour at the Tasker's rate plus platform fees; on IKEA jobs it is the fixed minimum price. Cancelling within five minutes of booking is free, as is a Tasker no-show. Web bookings take a one-hour deposit upfront, and the card is charged within 24 hours of the invoice. When a Tasker cancels, the app just offers a replacement, and reviewers say such Taskers cannot be rated, since the review link arrives with the invoice email. Last-minute Tasker cancellations and fees first seen at checkout dominate the newest Play and App Store complaints.

IKEA Ownership, Fixed Assembly Prices and Ad-Linked Data

Ingka Group, which operates 375 IKEA stores, bought the company in 2017, and the service now runs inside 240+ IKEA stores. IKEA assembly uses fixed item prices, such as $114.40 for a HEMNES 8-drawer dresser and $608.40 for a PAX corner wardrobe, and you no longer pick the Tasker. Truck moves and bulky deliveries live in a separate Taskrabbit Delivery app, the rebranded Dolly. Apple's privacy label lists contact info, search history and identifiers as used to track you, and the privacy policy, updated May 26, 2026, allows sharing personal data with third parties for advertising. Still, Taskers never receive your phone number or email, and the full address stays hidden until a Tasker accepts.

Pros

  • Hourly rates, ratings and task counts shown before you book
  • Every US Tasker passes identity and criminal background checks
  • Taskers never receive your phone number or email address
  • Fixed IKEA assembly prices, such as $114.40 for a HEMNES dresser
  • Same-day booking through a Today filter when local Taskers are free
  • Elite badge requires a top-35% performance score per skill in a metro

Cons

  • 139 of the 150 newest Google Play reviews give one or two stars
  • Two per-hour fees whose percentages the help center never states
  • Taskprotect pays up to $1,000 at the company's discretion, claimed only online
  • Cancelling within 24 hours costs a full hour plus fees

Verdict

Taskrabbit earns 5.8 because the service works better than the app around it: background-checked Taskers, upfront rates and fixed IKEA assembly prices, against two per-hour fees with unpublished percentages, a $1,000 Taskprotect ceiling and a 2.1 Google Play rating. Book it for furniture assembly, TV mounting or small repairs in a covered city if the 24-hour cancellation rule suits you. Skip it if you need guaranteed arrival or a full price before checkout.

Core function7.0Background-checked Taskers, visible rates, same-day slots and fixed IKEA prices, undercut by frequent last-minute Tasker cancellations.
Ease of use5.5No contact before booking; damage claims and account deactivation work only on the website, not in the app.
Monetisation5.0Free app without ads, but two per-hour fees with unpublished rates and a one-hour cancellation charge.
Performance4.5Google Play rating 2.1; September 2026 reviews of version 7.100.1 describe a login loop and crashes.
Privacy & permissions6.0Apple lists contact info and search history for tracking, yet Taskers never see your phone or email.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is the Taskrabbit app free?

Yes. Downloading and browsing cost nothing, and neither store lists ads or in-app purchases. You pay once a Tasker invoices: their hourly rate, with a one-hour minimum, plus a Service Fee and a Trust & Support fee on every hour. Tips, capped at 25% of the task total, go to the Tasker without fees.

2

Does Taskrabbit background check its Taskers?

Yes, in the US. Every Tasker passes an identity check and a criminal background check searching national, local and sex offender databases, through vendors including Checkr and Persona. Applicants need a Social Security number, must be 18 or older and pay a $25 registration fee. Assistants must also be registered and approved by you in the chat.

3

How much is the Taskrabbit Trust and Support fee?

The help center calls it a percentage of the hourly rate added to every hour worked, without giving a figure. The company's cost guide says it is usually 5–15% of the task price, and its App Store screenshot shows $10 on a $40 rate. A separate Service Fee also applies; California and Massachusetts invoices show only a Service Fee.

4

How do I delete my Taskrabbit account?

Finish or cancel any active tasks, then sign in on the website and choose Account, then Deactivate; the app has no option for it. California residents can email the privacy team to have their data deleted, which also deactivates the account, and the company has 45 days to respond. Records the law requires may be kept.

5

Is Taskrabbit better than Thumbtack or Angi?

Not on fees: Thumbtack charges customers nothing because pros pay per lead, while here two fees sit on every hour. Thumbtack's Guarantee also lists up to $100,000 for property damage, against Taskprotect's $1,000. The edge here is a vetted Tasker at a visible hourly rate, with same-day slots where available. Angi's App Store listing cites 200,000+ pros in 50+ categories.
