How to Delete a Reddit Account in the Right Order

A Reddit account is deleted from inside the app — on iPhone, avatar → menu → Settings → Support → Delete account; on Android, avatar → menu → Settings → Account settings → scroll to the end → Delete account — and confirmed with your password, or a six-digit code if the account was made with a phone number and never given one. Reddit's help page adds three facts that change what you do first: deleting the account "doesn't delete any posts or comments you've made," it "won't cancel your subscription" if you have Premium, and once done it "can't be reactivated" — the username is gone for good, and the deletion process itself starts within 90 days. Below are the steps and the order to do them in.
Before you start
Reddit's help page front-loads the warnings, and they are worth taking in order.
Your posts stay. Deleting the account does not delete what you wrote; posts and comments remain, attributed to a deleted user. If you want them gone, delete them before the account — from your profile, post by post, or with the bulk options Reddit describes in its FAQ about removing data. Once the account is deleted you cannot log in to remove anything.
Premium keeps billing. Reddit Premium, at $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year as of September 2026, is a store subscription on a phone, and Reddit's page states plainly that deleting the account will not cancel it. Cancel it first: on iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Reddit; on Android, Play Store → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Reddit.
It is permanent. Reddit: "Once you delete your account, it can't be reactivated, your username will become unavailable, and you'll lose access to your account and all of your post and comment history." No one at Reddit can undo it, and Reddit's administrators "can't delete an account on your behalf" either — you do it, with the password.
Know what else the account holds. Reddit Gold bought in $1.99 to $5.99 packs and collectible avatars at $4.99 and $9.99 are one-time purchases attached to the account and are not refunded when it goes. The data Reddit collected — eleven categories on Google Play's card, eight of them shared with third parties — is what the deletion process removes or anonymises over the following 90 days; the help page frames deletion as the way to trigger that.
Know your password. The deletion is confirmed by entering it. If the account was created with a phone number and no password was ever set, Reddit sends a six-digit code instead.
Step 1. Delete your posts and comments, if you want them gone
Open your profile, and work through Posts and Comments, deleting each you want removed. Do this first; after Step 3 the content is frozen under a deleted name. Anything quoted or screenshotted by others is, of course, beyond reach.
Step 2. Cancel Reddit Premium
If you subscribe, cancel it in the store that bills it before deleting the account — Apple's Subscriptions list on iPhone, the Play Store's on Android, or Reddit's website settings if it was bought there. The subscription runs to the end of the paid period and stops.
Step 3. Delete the account in the app
Reddit's steps, by platform:
iPhone: tap your avatar to open the profile page → the three-line menu near the top right → Settings → scroll down to Support → Delete account.
Android: tap your avatar at the top right → the three-line menu → Settings → Account settings for u/username → scroll to the end of the screen → Delete account.
Enter your password to confirm, or the six-digit code if you never set one. Reddit then initiates the deletion, which it says "commences within 90 days to safely remove or anonymize your account from our servers." You are logged out immediately and the username cannot be used again.
A web browser works too — Reddit's page describes the same option on reddit.com and on Old Reddit — but the app routes above are the phone ones.
If it does not work
An error appears at the password step. Reddit's first advice is to re-enter the password carefully; most deletion errors are a mistyped password. If it persists, the help centre has a separate troubleshooting article for deletion errors.
You have no password and no code arrives. The account was made with a phone number; the code goes to that number. If the number is gone, update it in Settings before trying again.
You cannot log in at all. Reset the password first — Reddit needs you inside the account to delete it, and administrators will not do it for you.
Premium charged after deletion. It was billed by Apple, Google or Reddit's web billing independently of the account. Cancel it there and request a refund of any charge after the deletion date from that biller.
You wanted a fresh start, not an exit. Nothing on Reddit lets you keep the username on a new account. If the goal is a clean history, delete the posts and comments (Step 1) and keep the account.
Bottom line
Delete your posts first, cancel Premium second, then delete the account third: avatar → menu → Settings → Support on iPhone, or Account settings on Android → Delete account, with your password. Reddit will not remove your content for you, will not cancel your subscription for you, and will not bring the username back — the order of the steps is the whole guide.
