Best Business Apps for Work and Job Hunting, Ranked
Microsoft Authenticator is the best business app on a phone: it approves work sign-ins by number matching, which is safer than a single Approve button
Adobe Scan is free to download and scan with, and free files carry no watermark, but free text recognition covers only scans of up to five pages, and an Adobe account is required before you start. Every saved scan uploads to Adobe Document Cloud. Premium, from $9.99 a month on the US App Store, adds 100-page OCR, Word export, High-speed scan saving and, on Android, AI Assistant.

Capturing, cropping, straightening and sharing a PDF cost nothing, and Adobe's replies to Play reviewers confirm free files carry no watermark or logo. The first wall is text recognition: Adobe's Android help says OCR does not run on scans longer than five pages for general users, so a ten-page lease is saved without searchable text. Premium raises that cap to 100 pages. Combining up to 20 files, exporting to Word, Excel, PowerPoint or rich text, compressing and password-protecting PDFs, Edit text and Magic eraser are subscriber tools too. High-speed scan, which captures a page stack with one tap, has a free trial since early 2026, but saving its output needs a subscription; two July 2026 Play reviews describe finding a Free Trial button instead of Save after a long session.
Adobe added AI Assistant to the Android app in May 2025 and Generative summary in August 2025, and its release notes mark both for paid users. The assistant takes typed or spoken questions about a scan, such as the total on a receipt, while the summary lists key points with citations back to the page. Free accounts get a limited number of requests before a subscribe prompt. Adobe documents both tools for Android only, and the scanner's App Store listing mentions neither. Among Acrobat plans, Studio includes AI Assistant, while Standard and Pro sell it as an add-on.
The US App Store lists Adobe Scan Premium at $9.99 a month, other Premium purchases at $49.99 to $69.99, and a cheaper Adobe Scan Plus at $4.99 a month or $19.99 a year; check the current price in the app, as it varies by region. Premium also lifts cloud storage from 5 GB to 20 GB and carries over to Acrobat Reader mobile and Acrobat on the web. The 7-day free trial comes with the yearly plan only: Adobe's own replies tell reviewers that picking monthly starts billing at once, a frequent complaint in 2026 Play reviews. Acrobat Pro costs $19.99 a month on an annual plan and includes 100 GB, but cancelling it after 14 days costs 50% of the remaining commitment outside California. A store subscription is cancelled in Google Play or App Store settings.
Signing in is required, with an Adobe ID or a Google, Facebook, Apple or enterprise account. Each saved scan uploads to Document Cloud automatically, and Adobe told a September 2026 reviewer that OCR uses cloud processing. Local copies take an extra step through Copy to device or Save original images to Gallery. The Play Data safety form lists name, email, user IDs and phone number as optional, with email and user IDs used partly for advertising or marketing; Apple's label adds that identifiers may be used to track you. In June 2024, terms saying Adobe may access content by automated and manual methods drew a backlash. The rewrite says Adobe does not scan files stored on your device or train generative AI on customer content, and personal accounts can switch off content analysis at account.adobe.com/privacy.

We score Adobe Scan 7.1: auto-straightening, clean captures and watermark-free PDFs earn the points, while the five-page OCR cap, a monthly plan without a trial and summer 2026 reports of failed saves take them away. Take it if your files already live in Adobe Document Cloud or you pay for Acrobat. Skip it if you want scans to stay on your phone, or if you need searchable long documents without paying $9.99 a month.

Yes, scanning, cropping and sharing PDFs are free, and free files carry no watermark. The limits sit elsewhere: OCR runs only on scans of five pages or fewer, an Adobe account is required, and combining files, Word export, compression and saving High-speed scans need a subscription.
Only with a subscription: free OCR skips scans longer than five pages, and Premium raises the cap to 100 pages. Recognition can be turned off with Run text recognition on saved PDF. Adobe says OCR uses cloud processing, though spring 2026 builds added on-device OCR for Hindi, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
On the US App Store, Premium is $9.99 a month, and the listing shows other Premium purchases at $49.99 to $69.99; prices vary by region and can change. Only the yearly plan includes the 7-day free trial. Adobe's Android subscription help lists a full refund for cancellations within 14 days.
Not entirely: an Adobe account is required and every saved scan uploads to Document Cloud. You can keep local copies through Copy to device or Save original images to Gallery, or save to Google Drive or Dropbox. Free accounts get 5 GB of cloud storage.
On Android, Google Drive's Scan document button turns pages into a PDF inside the free 15 GB that Google shares across Drive, Gmail and Photos. On iPhone, Notes scans documents and saves each one as a PDF in the note. Microsoft Lens, a frequent recommendation, left both stores on February 9, 2026.
