About UKG Pro

UKG Pro is the employee app for companies that run HR, payroll or timekeeping on UKG: punching in, schedules, time off, pay statements and W-2s. It does nothing until you enter a company access code, URL or QR code from your employer, and the employer decides which features appear. The catch: recent Google Play reviews describe slow loading and sign-in loops, and geofenced punches record your coordinates.

UKG Pro Review: Pay, Punches and Shifts in One App, Slowed by Sign-In

What Your Employer Switches On: Three Time Products, One App

UKG's own help pages say a system administrator decides which features each organization gets, and that the mobile set can differ from the web version. The time tools depend on which of three UKG products your employer licenses: Workforce Management, Time and Attendance or Time Management. Workforce Management users can request open shifts and punch by scanning a QR code; Time and Attendance users get timesheets and leave balances. On the Pay tab, where enabled, you can open pay statements as PDFs, estimate a paycheck, edit direct deposit and pull Form W-2 PDFs. Managers approve timecards, publish schedules and answer time-off requests from the same screens. It also replaced three older apps, UKG Pro Classic, UKG Dimensions and UKG Talk, which UKG removed from both stores on March 31, 2025.

Known Places: What a Geofenced Punch Records

Clock-in limits come from geofencing, which UKG calls Known Places. An administrator defines each place as a GPS location, a Wi-Fi network, Wi-Fi access points or a QR code, and a punch from outside can be flagged or refused, depending on setup. With geofencing on, each punch sends your latitude, longitude, the accuracy your phone reports and any Wi-Fi details, and UKG keeps those raw coordinates in timecard audit reports. When the GPS fix is weak, the app retries for roughly 2 to 3 minutes before submitting its best reading, which fits Play reviewers who say they were nearly late. Employers can also require a fingerprint, face or device passcode before every punch. The Punch screen carries a Where can I punch? link to a map of allowed places.

Access Code, MFA and the 180-Day Biometric Token

First launch asks for the company access code or tenant URL, typed or scanned from a QR code; anyone with UKG web access finds it under the user icon, in Mobile App Instructions. Sign-in then hands off to the phone's browser for a UKG password or corporate SSO, plus a text, call or email code if MFA is on. Biometrics skip MFA and stay valid for 180 days, but a password reset cancels that token, and the app signs you out after 20 minutes of inactivity. Complaints cluster here: of the 150 newest English Play reviews we read, posted September 22 to October 1, 2026, 126 gave 1 or 2 stars, 30 mention sign-in trouble and 50 slow loading. Rivals start the same way: ADP Mobile Solutions can take a registration code from your administrator, Workday an Organization ID and Dayforce a Company ID.

Location Labels, AES-256 Tokens and Shared-Phone Rules

Google Play's data-safety label lists approximate and precise location, photos and videos as optional, plus diagnostics; it says nothing is shared with third parties and that you cannot request deletion. Apple's label links payment information, precise and coarse location, contact details and identifiers to your identity. UKG's privacy notice sends employees of client companies to their employer with privacy requests, since the employer controls that data. Face and fingerprint checks stay on the phone: UKG says the app learns only whether a scan passed. The app refuses to start on rooted or jailbroken phones and encrypts stored tokens with AES-256. Shared phones get extra limits: if two people enable biometrics for one workspace on the same device, biometric sign-in switches off for both, and too many failed password attempts make the account inactive.

Pros

  • One app covers punches, schedules, time off, pay statements and W-2 PDFs
  • Free for employees, with no ads and no in-app purchases
  • Biometric sign-in skips MFA and stays valid for 180 days
  • Face and fingerprint scans never reach UKG; the phone reports only pass or fail
  • QR code and Wi-Fi geofences give employers a fallback when GPS is weak
  • Managers approve timecards and time off and publish schedules from the phone

Cons

  • Useless without an employer account: features and the access code come from your company
  • Recent Play reviews describe sign-in loops and slow loading; 126 of 150 gave 1-2 stars
  • Geofenced punches store your exact coordinates in your employer's audit reports
  • Google Play's label says you cannot request deletion of collected data

Verdict

UKG Pro scores 6.7 because it puts punches, schedules, time off, pay PDFs and W-2s in one free app with no ads, backed by careful security design, from AES-256 storage to biometrics that never leave the phone. Sign-in friction and slow loading, which dominate recent Play reviews, and coordinates stored with every geofenced punch pull it down. Install it if your employer runs on UKG and has given you an access code. Skip it if you are not employed by a UKG customer, because without an employer account it does nothing.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can I use the UKG Pro app without a company access code?

No. The app is free to download, but it works only for employees of organizations that use UKG and have switched mobile access on. The first launch asks for a company access code or URL, or a QR code your employer provides. If you can already sign in to UKG on the web, the code sits under the user icon, in Mobile App Instructions.

2

Does the UKG Pro app track my location when I clock in?

Yes, if your employer uses geofencing. With it on, each punch sends your latitude, longitude, the accuracy your phone reports and any Wi-Fi details, and UKG stores them in timecard audit reports. Punches from outside an approved place can be flagged or declined. Google Play lists location as optional data, but a geofenced punch depends on it.

3

Do I have to pay for the UKG Pro app?

No. Google Play and the App Store list it as free, with no ads or in-app purchases; access comes through your employer's UKG contract. Earned wage access lives in a separate UKG Wallet app, powered by Payactiv, which works only if your employer participates, and its prepaid Visa card has no monthly fee. Check current card terms in that app, as they can change.

4

Can I download my pay stubs and W-2 from the UKG Pro app?

Yes, if your employer enables the Pay features. The app generates pay statement and pay summary PDFs, plus Form W-2 PDFs, or T4 slips in Canada. Year-end PDFs count as sensitive: if you signed in with a fingerprint or face, the app asks you to verify again, and that clearance lasts 12 hours.

5

Is the UKG Pro app safe, and what are the alternatives?

We describe rather than certify. The app refuses rooted or jailbroken phones, encrypts stored tokens with AES-256 and never receives your face or fingerprint scan. After three failed face or fingerprint attempts, it asks for the phone's passcode instead. Employers, not workers, choose between it, ADP Mobile Solutions, Workday and Dayforce, and each of those also ties sign-in to your employer's account.
