About Alight Motion

Alight Motion is a layer-based motion design editor for Android, iPhone and iPad. Every setting takes keyframes, layers parent to Null Objects, and cameras move along a Z axis with focus blur and fog, which puts it closer to desktop animation software than to CapCut. Bending Spoons owns it now. The free tier keeps a watermark that only a subscription removes, and 2026 Play reviews describe ads at launch and at export.

Alight Motion Review: Desktop Motion Tools on a Phone, Buried Under Ads

The Watermark Stays Until You Pay; Ads Only Lend You Pro Effects

The free version handles basic layers, keyframes and effects, and stamps a watermark on every video. The official help center lists one way to remove it: a paid membership, which also opens all Pro features. Reviewers describe a per-project workaround for the rest: Pro effects, some easing graphs and layer parenting unlock after ads, and a July 2026 review counts four ads to export a plain project and seven once a single Pro feature is used. Launching the app and creating a project trigger ads too, according to reviews from July to September 2026. Of the 199 newest English reviews on Google Play, posted September 25 to October 1, 93 gave one or two stars and 40 mentioned ads. Rivals are gentler: InShot drops its watermark after one ad, CapCut's is a deletable outro clip, and VN adds none.

Keyframes on Every Setting, Bounce-to-Steps Easing and a Z-Axis Camera

Any property can be keyframed, including position, scale, rotation, color and opacity, and each pair of keyframes gets its own easing curve. Besides Cubic Bezier with two handles, the curve editor offers advanced types such as Bounce, Elastic, Cyclic, Random, Steps and Elastic Steps, an Enable Overshoot option for anticipation and bounce-back, and Paste Curve to All Keyframes. Layer Parenting passes position, rotation and scale from parent to child; an invisible Null Object as parent lets one axis run on its own timing, and matched keyframes on parent and child produce curved motion arcs. Camera objects pan on X and Y, travel on Z for parallax, add focus blur and fog, and can follow a moving layer. Vector shapes are reshaped point by point, and reusable Elements stay linked, so editing the original updates every project that uses it. Motion blur toggles separately for position, scale and angle.

1.5 GB of RAM, Error 1285 and Projects That Live Only on Your Phone

Exports cover MP4 in H.264 or HEVC, GIF, PNG sequences and stills; the new-project screen offers 9:16 to 16:9 ratios, 60 fps and a transparent background. The help center sets the floor at 1.5 GB of RAM, recommends more than 2 GB, and warns that anything above 1080p strains even powerful devices. Its Performance Guide names heavy effects such as Glow, Glass, Smooth Bevel and several blurs, notes that Stroke costs less than Border, and gives Android a low-quality preview switch. Export error 1285 Insufficient RAM marks the timecode where memory ran out. Reviews bear this out: a September 2026 Indonesian review calls the app heavy on entry-level and mid-range phones, and a 2025 review with 865 votes reports frequent crashes even on a strong tablet. Projects are never saved to the account, so uninstalling deletes every one that was not exported as a Project Package.

Bending Spoons Ownership, $4.99 Weekly Plans and a 16+ Age Limit

The original Alight Creative website still shows a 2019 to 2021 copyright, while the Play listing now names Splice Video Editor SRL in Milan and the App Store lists Bending Spoons Apps ApS, publisher of Splice and Remini. In the US App Store the membership costs $4.99 a week or $6.99 a month and a Weekly Cloud plan $7.99, with trial versions listed; Google Play shows items from $0.49 to $79.99. Prices vary by region, so check the current price in the app. A Play review with 6,252 votes, from September 2026, says the weekly price doubled within months. The terms exclude users under 16 and license the app for personal, non-commercial use, though Play rates it Everyone. Play's Data safety card declares no data shared, while Apple's label lists purchases and identifiers used for tracking, and the privacy policy names AppLovin, ironSource and Meta Audience Network ad SDKs.

Verdict

We score it 6.2. The toolset earns most of that: keyframes on every setting, Bounce-to-Steps easing, Null Objects, Z-axis cameras and vector point editing are rare on a phone. Monetisation and stability pull it down, with a watermark only a subscription removes, ads around launch and export, and 2026 reviews of crashes and lost projects. Take it for tweening, kinetic text and animated edits on a phone with more than 2 GB of RAM. Skip it for quick captioned cuts, where CapCut and VN charge nothing, or on a 1.5 GB phone.

Core function8.5Keyframes on every setting, Bounce-to-Steps easing, Null Objects and Z-axis cameras, though projects above 1080p strain phones.
Ease of use6.0Layered timeline takes tutorials to learn, and subscription pop-ups plus ads interrupt the path to a new project.
Monetisation4.0Watermark removal needs a $4.99 weekly or $6.99 monthly plan, and free use runs on ads at launch and export.
Performance5.01.5 GB RAM minimum, an official Insufficient RAM export error, and 2026 reviews of crashes and lost projects.
Privacy & permissions6.0Media stays on the device, but Apple's label lists tracking identifiers and three ad networks sit in the app.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you remove the Alight Motion watermark for free?

No. The official help center says the watermark goes away only with a paid membership, which also unlocks all Pro features. Reviewers say Pro effects and tools such as layer parenting can be unlocked per project by watching ads, but the watermark stays on free exports. InShot, by comparison, removes its watermark after one ad, and VN exports without one.

2

Can Alight Motion do keyframe animation like After Effects?

For core motion graphics, yes. Every setting accepts keyframes, each pair gets its own easing curve, and beyond Cubic Bezier there are types such as Bounce, Elastic, Cyclic, Random, Steps and Elastic Steps. Layers parent to Null Objects, cameras move on a Z axis with focus blur and fog, and vector shapes are edited point by point. There is no Windows or macOS version.

3

How much does Alight Motion membership cost?

In the US App Store the membership is $4.99 a week or $6.99 a month, with a $7.99 Weekly Cloud plan and trial versions listed; Google Play shows in-app items from $0.49 to $79.99. A Play review with 6,252 votes, from September 2026, says the weekly price doubled within months. Prices vary by region, so check the current price in the app.

4

What happens to my Alight Motion projects if I cancel or uninstall?

Cancelling keeps Pro until the paid period ends, then the app reverts to the free version with its watermark. Projects are never stored in your account; they sit on the device, so uninstalling or clearing app data deletes them permanently. Back them up first as Project Packages, which upload and return a link and a QR code.

5

Who owns Alight Motion and is it safe to use?

It belongs to Bending Spoons of Milan, publisher of Splice and Remini. The privacy policy says photos, videos and audio are processed on the device, but the app carries AppLovin, ironSource and Meta Audience Network ad SDKs, and Apple's label lists purchases and identifiers used for tracking. Ad consent is managed under Privacy Settings, and the terms set a minimum age of 16.
