Best AI Search Apps on Mobile, Ranked

The You.com app is free to download, but chat is not free to use: since August 4, 2026, only paid plans can chat. YouPro costs $19.99 a month in the App Store and gets you a multi-model assistant with a deep-research agent called ARI, an Auto mode that picks the tool for each question, and custom agents. It suits people who want several AI providers under one subscription, and it is a poor fit for casual free use.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-06. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
The free plan did not last. In April 2026 the company's support pages moved free users to a Pro trial capped at 25 queries, and from August 4, 2026 chat is open only to Pro, Max, Teams and Enterprise subscribers. The download itself stays free. Inside, the App Store lists one product family: YouPro at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, which works out to about $15 a month. The listing declares no advertising, and the privacy policy says paid users are not served ads. The official pricing page covers only developer API rates, so consumer prices appear only in the stores. Prices are regional and can change, so check the in-app paywall before paying.
The deep-research agent is ARI, short for Advanced Research & Insights. The store listing says it reads 500+ sources and returns a cited report within minutes, a vendor claim we did not benchmark. On mobile it has shown reports as PDFs since version 3.15.0 and, since 3.16.0, it asks clarifying questions before it starts. Auto mode, added to the query bar in 3.17.0, chooses between the Research, Compute and Create agents so you do not pick one yourself; Compute covers code execution, image generation and data charts. Express handles quick answers, and a toggle turns web search off. You can also switch between agents and models mid-thread to compare answers to the same question.
Prompts leave the app. The privacy policy, last updated September 22, 2026, says requests are routed to model providers including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, whose contracts bar training on them, and that the company does not train its own models on prompts, files or outputs. It sets no fixed retention period for chats, only that data is kept as long as needed to deliver and secure the service, and account deletion is by email request. The App Store label is light: user and device IDs linked to you, crash and performance data not linked. The policy also asks users not to type health, financial or government ID data into prompts. On billing, App Store reviews describe a double charge in February 2026 and an upgrade that was not recognized after payment; other reviews mention slow screens and a login that was not remembered.

The score reflects a capable multi-model research tool whose appeal drops once you reach the paywall and the billing complaints. Take it if you already pay for several AI subscriptions and want ARI-style cited research, Auto mode and custom agents in one plan, and you accept prompts being routed through OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. Skip it if you want a free assistant, need offline use, or handle health, financial or ID data that should not go into any chatbot.

The app is free to download, but chat is not free to use. You.com's support pages say that from August 4, 2026 only active Pro, Max, Teams or Enterprise subscribers can chat, after the free plan had already shrunk to a 25-query Pro trial in April 2026. Check the in-app paywall to see what a new account is offered today.
ARI, short for Advanced Research & Insights, is You.com's deep-research agent. The store listing says it reads 500+ sources and returns a cited report in a few minutes, and the mobile app has shown ARI reports as PDFs since version 3.15.0. The source count is the company's own claim, not something we measured.
In the US App Store, YouPro is $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, about $15 a month when billed annually. The company's terms say subscriptions renew automatically, must be cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal, and payments are non-refundable except where the law requires. App Store purchases are billed and managed by Apple. Prices are regional and can change.
No. Chat requests are routed to model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, so every answer needs a connection. The app lets you search past chats and favorite threads, but we found no export option in the listing or the policy. Account deletion is by emailing support, and no fixed retention period for chats is published.
ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity are the closest alternatives. ChatGPT and Gemini each run on their makers' own models, while You.com routes one subscription across providers including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. Perplexity is the nearer match if cited, search-style answers matter most to you.
