About Mongil: Star Dive

Mongil: Star Dive is Netmarble's monster-taming action RPG — three characters swapped mid-fight with Tag Skills, wild monsters caught with Nyanners the mascot cat, and a story you advance at your own pace — free on iOS, Android, PC and PlayStation 5 since April 2026. The gacha is fairer than most: an event character is guaranteed on any SSR from their banner, hard pity at 90. The catch is the grind behind it — daily-capped crafting materials that Netmarble has been patching since launch.

Mongil: Star Dive Review: A Kind Gacha Wrapped Around a Daily-Capped Grind

Triple Tag Team, Nyanners and Monsters You Poach From the Wild

The combat is three-character tag action: you deploy a trio, switch in real time as the fight changes, and time the swaps to fire Tag Skills, with tamed monsters joining attacks when their conditions are met. Taming is the second system — Nyanners, the cat companion of leads Cloud and Verna, is the tool, and the monsters live in the open world of humans, elves and beastkin, so Game8's Alfonso Majarucon described collecting as wandering the map and poaching the local wildlife, settling for what you find. The story is deliberately unhurried: no ranking to race, advance when you like. Netmarble Monster launched it on April 13–15, 2026 on Google Play, the App Store and PC via Epic, with PlayStation 5 alongside and Xbox Series announced; five months in the listing shows 1 million installs and 73,800 reviews at 4.5 on Play, 3,905 App Store ratings at 4.8.

No 50/50 and a 90-Pull Pity — Then the Daily Caps

The pull rules are the reason players stay. Game8's April 15, 2026 review, scored 68/100, states the numbers: SSR rate 1%, hard pity at 90, and event characters guaranteed on any SSR from their banner — no coin flip against the standard pool. An August 2026 Play review says exactly that is why it spends here rather than in games still running a 50/50, and credits quality-of-life patches since launch for reducing the grind for character stat boosts. The grind is the counterweight: Game8 faults crafting materials that can be fought or gathered only a limited number of times a day, boot crafting with class-specific main stats as the worst of it, and a flat, poorly balanced soundtrack. The most-voted August review, with 13 helpful votes, adds a different objection — that the roster leans on sexualised female designs with male characters held back — and that the dodge button sits too close to its neighbours.

Special Offers to $39.99, Three Battle Pass Tiers, and a Mandatory Play Games Login

Google Play prices items from $0.29 to $99.99; the App Store's top ten are Special Offer packs from $3.99 to $39.99 plus Morning Star's Pledge at $6.99, and Apple flags Loot Boxes alongside the purchases. Game8 describes three battle pass tiers — a thin free track, a standard paid tier at the usual price, and a premium tier at double that with a much better lineup — plus two subscription packages. Neither store shows an advertising badge. Google's data-safety card lists Personal info, Financial info and two other types shared with third parties, and a July 2026 Play review uninstalled over the Google Play Games sign-in being mandatory at start-up, alongside the lack of an auto-sprint toggle and a jump button. Floors are iOS 15 and Android 10, in 12 languages, rated Teen on Play and 13+ by Apple. Prices are regional and the packs rotate.

Pros

  • Event character guaranteed on any SSR from its banner — no 50/50
  • Three-character tag combat with real-time swaps and Tag Skills
  • Free on iOS, Android, PC and PlayStation 5, 470 MB on iPhone
  • Quality-of-life patches since launch reduced the stat-boost grind
  • Story advances at your pace with no ranking pressure

Cons

  • Crafting materials capped to a few fights or gathers a day
  • Taming is poaching whatever wanders past, not a collection system with depth
  • Mandatory Google Play Games sign-in and a dodge button too close to others
  • Sexualised designs and a held-back male roster, per the most-voted August review

Verdict

A 6.4: the fairest pull rules on the store attached to a grind that meters your progress by the day, with a taming system that is more poaching than collecting. Take it if you want tag-team anime action with a gacha that will not cheat you at the banner, and you play in daily sessions anyway. Skip it if daily caps annoy you, if the roster's character designs are not for you, or if a mandatory Play Games login is a dealbreaker.

Gameplay7Tag-team action with tamed monsters joining in; the taming itself is shallow poaching, per Game8.
Controls6Real-time swaps work; no auto-sprint toggle or jump, and a dodge button crowded by its neighbours.
Replay value6Daily-capped materials, three battle pass tiers and boss raids — a schedule more than a world to return to.
Graphics & sound7Bright 3D characters praised in reviews; flat effects and buried, unbalanced music, per Game8.
Monetisation6The kindest pity rules in the genre, undercut by loot boxes, $39.99 offers and a double-price premium pass.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Mongil: Star Dive offline?

No. Banners, daily-capped materials, boss raids, battle passes and the Google Play Games sign-in a July 2026 reviewer objected to all run on Netmarble's servers. Nothing on either store describes an offline mode, so plan on a connection for every session.

2

Is Mongil: Star Dive pay to win?

Less than most gachas at the banner: an SSR pull always lands the event character, hard pity is 90 pulls and the SSR rate is 1%, per Game8. The pressure moves to speed — three battle pass tiers with the premium one at double the standard price, subscriptions, Special Offer packs to $39.99 and loot boxes flagged by Apple — and to the daily caps on crafting materials. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for Mongil: Star Dive?

iOS 15 or newer, or Android 10 or newer, with 470 MB listed on the App Store. The reviews' hardware complaints are about layout rather than power — a dodge button too close to its neighbours and no auto-sprint toggle — and the PC and PlayStation 5 versions exist if a phone is not the place for it.

4

Can you play Mongil: Star Dive with friends?

Partly. The game has boss raids and a shared world, and Netmarble's own pitch is that there is no need to compete with others; the store pages do not describe a full co-op campaign, and the story is single-player. Cross-play between phones, PC and PlayStation 5 is not spelled out on the store listings.

5

How much time does Mongil: Star Dive take each day?

A daily rhythm by design: crafting materials can only be fought or gathered a limited number of times a day, so progression waits for the reset even if you have hours to spare — Game8's main complaint. Beyond that, the story is self-paced and an August 2026 reviewer credits patches for cutting the stat-boost grind.
