Best Apps for Parents, Ranked by Our Scores
Huckleberry wins at 7.5 because the part parents actually need — logging sleep, feeds and nappies across two phones — stays free and ad-free. FamilyAl
FamilyAlbum is MIXI's invite-only album for children's photos and videos: free accounts get unlimited storage, albums of up to 100 relatives and a browser link for grandparents who will not install an app. The free plan has real limits. Videos are capped at 2 minutes, the free tier now carries third-party ads that reviewers describe as full-screen, and MIXI's own product banners stay even on paid Premium plans.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
The free plan does not meter storage, and one album holds up to 100 invited members. Videos are capped at 2 minutes. Each member can order 11 free prints a month, but every order carries $3.99 shipping, extra prints cost $0.33, and unused free prints do not roll over. The price of free has shifted: App Store release notes have listed "In-app ads" since November 2025, and 14 of the 35 one- and two-star reviews among the 199 newest English Play reviews (June 7 to September 30, 2026) complain about ads or pop-ups. MIXI's replies cite rising server and operating costs.
1s Movies stitch one-second clips from your uploads together. MIXI's engineering page describes the selection in three stages: deep-learning face and person recognition, then a rating that weighs visibility settings, Favorites and comments, then a balanced mix of photos and videos from across the season. Free albums get one every three months; Premium adds monthly and yearly editions. Album Members who are not Admins only get clips from uploads shared with the whole family, and if the Album Admin lives in the EU, the UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, those members receive no 1s Movies at all. Deleting a photo, or switching it to Admins Only, does not remove it from a movie already made.
Premium One costs $2.99 a month, covers only the subscriber and hides third-party ads in every album they belong to; it has no yearly option. Premium Family, at $5.99 a month or $59 a year, covers everyone in one album and adds 10-minute videos, computer uploads, Share Groups for per-photo visibility and Personal Pages that sort photos by child. Family Pro, at $10.99 or $109 a year, adds 1920 x 1080 video instead of Family's 1280 x 720, bulk download, descriptive search, tags and TV casting, which needs Chromecast or Google TV. The one-month free trial is for first-time subscribers only, and MIXI does not refund a renewal you forgot to cancel. Prices are U.S.; check the app, as they vary by region.
Sign-up asks only for nicknames for you and your child and your relationship to them; everything else is optional, and there is no public feed. Google Play's Data safety form lists user IDs and device IDs shared for advertising or marketing, and Apple's privacy label lists identifiers used to track you across other companies' apps and sites. MIXI's engineering page confirms face recognition runs on uploads for 1s Movies, stickers and Personal Pages. Answering a July 2026 Play review about AI search, MIXI said uploads are not provided to third parties to train AI models. Deleted photos and, on request, accounts leave its servers within 30 days; removing a whole album means contacting support. Read the developer's privacy policy before uploading your child's photos.

We score FamilyAlbum 7.4. Unlimited free storage, 100-member albums, browser access for grandparents and quarterly 1s Movies make the free plan unusually generous; third-party ads, MIXI banners on paid plans and face recognition on uploads pull the score down. Take it if you want one private place for relatives and accept ads or $2.99 a month to hide them. Skip it if you want advertising identifiers kept away from your child's album, need several albums of your own, or expect a free one-tap export.

Yes. Photo and video storage is unlimited on the free plan, and each member gets 11 free prints a month with $3.99 shipping. The limits are a 2-minute video cap and third-party ads, which only a Premium plan removes. Premium starts at $2.99 a month in the U.S.; check the current price in the app.
Yes. An Album Admin can invite relatives to the browser version through a unique link that opens on a computer, phone or tablet. Browser users can view, save and comment but cannot upload, and photos appear in one chronological stream instead of by month. Album Admins themselves need the iOS or Android app.
Only if you need what it adds. Premium Family, at $5.99 a month or $59 a year, covers the whole album, removes third-party ads and allows 10-minute videos and computer uploads. Family Pro, at $10.99 or $109, adds full HD video, bulk download and descriptive search. MIXI's own banners remain. Prices are U.S. and vary by region.
On the free plan you save photos and videos one at a time from each item's menu. Bulk Download needs Premium Family Pro, and iOS caps each batch at 100 items. Long videos uploaded during Premium stay visible after you cancel. Register an email first: without one, a lost phone can mean a lost account.
Tinybeans works the same invite-only way, but its free plan caps uploads at 20 a month, and Tinybeans+ costs $7.99 a month or $74.99 a year for 200 GB without ads. Google Photos shares albums from a 15 GB free quota split with Gmail and Drive. Apple's Shared Albums take up to 100 participants. Prices vary by region.
