About Qustodio Parental Control App

Qustodio is free for one device only, and that free tier covers web filtering, safe search, an internet pause button and seven-day reports, not daily time limits or location. Basic adds those for five devices; Complete adds AI alerts for unlimited family devices across Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Kindle, Android and iPhone. The weak spot is enforcement: recent Play reviews keep describing children who bypass or remove it.

Qustodio Review: Six Platforms Covered, but Kids Keep Slipping Past It

Is Qustodio free? One device, web filtering and a 3-day Premium trial

The free account protects a single device with safe search, web filtering, an internet pause and seven-day activity reports. Daily time limits, games and apps blocking, location and 30-day reports start with Basic, which covers up to five devices. Complete removes the device cap and adds app time limits, custom app and website routines, YouTube monitoring, call and message monitoring, AI search and message alerts, and saved-places alerts. Every new account opens with a 3-day Premium trial that starts automatically and, per the company, needs no card. When it ends, the account drops back to the free tier. Recent Play reviewers call three days too short to evaluate it.

Smart alerts: Gaming alerts on Windows, ChatGPT alerts on Android

Gaming alerts, a Complete-only feature introduced in March 2026, monitor live voice chat on Windows PCs and flag harassment or other harmful talk in Roblox, Fortnite, Valorant and Steam; Discord joined on September 4, 2026. ChatGPT alerts arrived on September 18, 2026 and review a child's ChatGPT conversations for risky topics, but only on Android for now. Each alert comes with a summary of what was detected and why it was flagged. Platform gaps matter here: Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X message alerts work only on Android, iPhone calls and messages are read only through a Windows or Mac computer, and the Kids App from Google Play lacks call and SMS monitoring.

Device Administrator, an iOS MDM profile and 60-day data retention

Barcelona-based Qustodio, owned since 2022 by Qoria (then Family Zone), asks for deep access. On Android, it uses the Device Administrator permission so it cannot be uninstalled without the parent knowing, plus Accessibility services to monitor screen time, sites and apps. On iPhones it installs an MDM profile, and the privacy policy updated August 16, 2026 says all traffic from that device then passes through the company's servers. Activity from the past 30 days stays visible for 60 days, identifiable data is kept in 12-month blocks for an annual report, and history can be wiped from the dashboard. The terms require informed consent from monitored users over 14. We don't call any monitoring app safe; check the current terms with the company first.

Qustodio vs Google Family Link, Bark and Microsoft Family Safety

Google Family Link is free, sets per-app limits with unlimited time for chosen apps, and can ring a child's phone. Microsoft Family Safety is also free but removed location tracking in 2025. Bark starts at $14 a month for unlimited devices. Qustodio sells yearly plans only: $59.99 for Basic and $99.99 for Complete in the U.S. App Store; check the current price in the app; it varies by region. The pricing page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, though the terms dated October 22, 2025 call payments non-refundable. Of the 150 newest English Play reviews, from May 12 to September 30, 2026, 119 give one or two stars, mostly over children bypassing blocks, slow location updates and permissions lost after updates.

Pros

  • Covers Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Kindle, Android and iPhone from one dashboard
  • Gaming alerts flag voice chat in Roblox, Fortnite, Valorant, Steam and Discord
  • The 3-day Premium trial starts at sign-up and needs no card
  • Complete protects unlimited family devices for one yearly price
  • Gaming-alert audio is not stored, and device data does not train the AI
  • Activity history can be wiped from the dashboard at any time

Cons

  • Free tier covers one device and lacks daily time limits and location
  • 119 of the 150 newest English Play reviews give one or two stars
  • Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X alerts and the Panic button are Android-only
  • Yearly billing only, and the terms call payments non-refundable

Verdict

We scored Qustodio 6.2: it protects more kinds of devices than Google Family Link or Microsoft Family Safety, and its Gaming and ChatGPT alerts reach beyond screen time. Points come off for a one-device free tier, yearly-only billing and many Play reviews about children bypassing blocks. Take it if your family mixes Windows PCs, Macs, Kindles and phones. Skip it if your child uses only an Android phone or a Chromebook; Family Link covers limits and location for free.

Core function7.5Six platforms, routines, location and AI alerts, but iPhone message monitoring needs a computer and several alerts are Android-only.
Ease of use5.5Reviewers describe setting each day's limit separately, repeated permission prompts after updates and rigid app-category rules.
Monetisation6.0A no-card 3-day trial and 30-day guarantee, but the free tier is one device and billing is yearly only.
Performance4.5119 of 150 recent Play reviews give 1–2 stars over bypassed blocks and slow location; the Kids App sits at 1.5.
Privacy & permissions6.5Clear 60-day retention and no AI training, but iPhone traffic runs through company servers and Apple's label lists tracking identifiers.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Qustodio free?

Only for one device. The free account includes web filtering, safe search, an internet pause button and seven-day activity reports. Daily time limits, app blocking and location need Basic, which covers five devices. New accounts start with a 3-day Premium trial, and the company says no card is needed; afterwards the account falls back to the free tier.

2

Can Qustodio see my child's text messages on an iPhone?

Not from the iPhone alone. Calls and messages on iOS are monitored only through a Windows or Mac computer, and the feature needs the Complete plan. Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X message alerts work only on Android. Several recent Play reviewers say message monitoring stopped after a few days.

3

How much does Qustodio Premium cost per year?

In the U.S. App Store, Premium Basic is listed at $59.99 a year for up to five devices and Premium Complete at $99.99 for unlimited family devices. There is no monthly option. The pricing page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.

4

What happens to my child's data if I cancel Qustodio?

Activity history can be deleted from the dashboard at any time. For full erasure, the privacy policy asks you to uninstall the apps from every device and email a copy of your ID; data then leaves active systems and backups within 15 days. Account and billing records stay archived for five years after the subscription ends.

5

Is Qustodio better than Google Family Link?

For mixed households, often yes; for Android-only families, often not. Family Link is free on children's Android and Chrome devices, with per-app limits and location. Qustodio adds Windows, Mac, Kindle and iPhone protection plus AI alerts, but Complete costs $99.99 a year in the U.S. App Store; check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
