Best Apps for Parents, Ranked by Our Scores
Huckleberry wins at 7.5 because the part parents actually need — logging sleep, feeds and nappies across two phones — stays free and ad-free. FamilyAl
AppClose stopped being free in 2026: after a 60-day trial that needs no credit card, each parent pays $7.99 a month on the web or $8.99 through the app. That one plan covers a shared custody calendar, messages no user can edit or delete, unlimited recorded calls and certified PDF records for U.S. users. The catch is the per-parent bill and a wave of 2026 Play reviews about silent call alerts.

Austin-based AppClose, Inc. launched the app in 2016 and in 2026 replaced free use with a single paid plan. When the trial ends, the account drops into Read-Only Mode: you can still read and export past records, but cannot message, call or send requests. The same happens 72 hours after a missed monthly payment. The terms say each subscription covers one user, so two co-parents who both buy on the web pay $15.98 a month between them. Prepaying on the web lowers the rate to $83.88 a year or $143.76 for two years, while the in-app annual plan is listed at $98.99. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
Messages, call logs, requests, expenses and check-ins become Exportable Records that no user can edit or delete. U.S. users can generate unlimited Certified Electronic Business Records on the website: PDFs certified by the company's custodian of records and digitally signed, so a recipient can confirm in Adobe Acrobat or Reader that nothing changed after signing. Each file carries an Export ID that ties a printout back to the stored original. Call recordings and transcripts sit outside these exports, and a September 2026 Play review complains that each recording must be downloaded on its own. Whether a court requires or accepts a particular app depends on your case; we don't give legal advice.
Audio and video calls run through Twilio, so neither parent sees the other's phone number. Recording needs every participant's consent and starts with a spoken announcement; each recording and its transcript are deleted at the end of the month two years after the call, or 365 days after an account closes. Co-Parent Assist, the optional tone checker added in 2026, runs on models the company hosts itself, but drafts, suggestions and toxicity scores on sent messages may be kept. Apple's privacy label lists identifiers used for tracking, while the privacy policy says the app shows no ads and uses the advertising ID only for measurement and fraud checks. Exportable records may be retained indefinitely, even after account closure.
On listed U.S. prices, the $83.88 prepaid year undercuts OurFamilyWizard, whose cheapest plan costs $110 a year and also bills each parent. TalkingParents charges $7 a month for Essentials, but that tier caps calls at 30 minutes and storage at 1 GB; unlimited calling sits in the $32 Ultimate plan, and its app has required payment since March 30, 2026. Of the 150 newest English Play reviews from March to September 2026, 106 give one or two stars, and more than half of those mention payment or billing. Many of the rest describe silent call alerts, choppy audio and older messages that fail to load. The company counts 26,450 free accounts granted since January 1, 2026.

We scored AppClose 7.4 for its records: messages nobody can edit, signed PDF exports with an Export ID and unlimited recorded calls, in one plan priced below OurFamilyWizard and the unlimited-call tier of TalkingParents. Take it if your parenting plan already names it, or you want schedules, expenses and records in one place. Think twice if $7.99 to $8.99 a month per parent strains your budget, if you rely on Android call alerts, or if you live outside the U.S., where ipayou and certified records are unavailable.

No. Since 2026 the app needs a paid plan after a 60-day trial that includes every feature and needs no credit card. Families on means-tested government benefits and domestic violence survivors can apply for a fee waiver, and military families get a discount. Without a plan or waiver, the account becomes read-only.
They are digitally signed PDF exports of messages, call logs, requests, expenses and check-ins, certified by the company's custodian of records. U.S. users can create unlimited copies on the website, each with an Export ID linking a printout to the original. Whether a court accepts them depends on your case; we don't give legal advice.
It costs $7.99 a month per parent on the web or $8.99 inside the app, with web prepay options of $83.88 a year or $143.76 for two years. Each co-parent needs their own subscription. Calls, recording, storage and exports carry no extra fees. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
They stay. When a trial or plan ends, or a payment is missed, the account switches to Read-Only Mode: you can sign in, read past activity and export records, but cannot send messages or make calls. Download call recordings before closing an account, because a closed account can't download them.
No. A check-in records your device's location at that moment, but your co-parent and others in your circle never see it; it appears only in your own exports. Photos and videos taken in the app carry no location data. Google Play's Data safety form still lists approximate location as shared with third parties.
