Best Streaming Apps on Mobile, Ranked by Our Scores
Netflix leads our streaming scores at 7.8, and the reason is not the catalogue — it is that the app sells nothing, tracks little and now bundles games
Hulu is the American network catch-up service turned streaming platform: next-day episodes from broadcast networks, its own originals, and an optional live television package with more than 90 channels. Downloads work offline on the paid tiers. The on-demand plans cost $11.99 a month with advertising and $18.99 without; adding live TV takes it to $89.99.

The on-demand service and the live one are priced in different worlds. Hulu with advertising is $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and without advertising $18.99. Hulu + Live TV starts at $89.99 a month with ads, or $99.99 with the on-demand library ad-free, and includes more than 90 live channels, Disney+, ESPN and unlimited cloud recording. That is cable pricing with a cable channel list, which is the point — it is aimed at households cutting a satellite contract rather than at casual viewers. Cancelling and switching tiers both happen on Hulu's website rather than inside the app, which is worth knowing before subscribing.
The reason to choose it over a rival library is timing: episodes from the big American networks appear the day after broadcast, which no other service matches consistently. Around that sit the originals — The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, The Handmaid's Tale — and a back catalogue of network comedy and drama. Downloads work on the paid tiers for offline viewing, with a downloads tab listing what is stored on the phone, and the same account plays across phones, tablets and televisions. Profiles keep each household member's history separate, and the app remembers position across devices without prompting.
The Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select bundle costs $19.99 a month with advertising — less than Disney+ and Hulu bought individually — which is why most subscribers end up on one. Hulu content also appears inside the Disney+ app for bundle customers, though the store listing notes some titles remain exclusive to this app. Google Play lists five collected categories with no third-party sharing declared, alongside a Contains ads badge that reflects the advertising in the cheaper tiers. The app itself sells nothing: every plan and bundle is bought on the website, which is why the listing shows no in-app purchases.

Worth it for one specific reason: episodes from American networks land the day after broadcast, which nothing else does as reliably. The originals are strong and the bundle with Disney+ is genuinely cheaper than paying twice. Where it stops making sense is live television — $89.99 a month is a cable bill, and anyone not replacing a satellite contract should stay on the $11.99 tier.

No. The app installs free and shows a sign-in wall; the cheapest plan is $11.99 a month with advertising. The Play listing carries a Contains ads badge for that reason. Free trials appear periodically, usually for a month on the ad-supported tier.
More than 90 live channels, unlimited cloud recording, and Disney+ and ESPN bundled in, for $89.99 a month with advertising or $99.99 with the on-demand library ad-free. It is a cable replacement rather than an add-on, and priced accordingly.
On demand: $11.99 a month with advertising or $119.99 a year, and $18.99 without advertising. The Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select bundle is $19.99 with ads and works out cheaper than the two services separately. Live TV plans start at $89.99.
Mostly not — Hulu content appears inside Disney+ for bundle subscribers. The store listing notes that some titles remain available only in this app, so keeping it installed is the safe option if a specific show matters to you.
Peacock carries NBC's networks and live sport for a third of the live TV price. Netflix has a larger original catalogue and no broadcast catch-up. This one is chosen for next-day network episodes, which remain its clearest advantage.
