MapFactor Navigator gives free voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions on OpenStreetMap data that you download country by country and use without signal in more than 200 countries. Unlike Sygic's free tier, spoken directions cost nothing here; the paid parts are TomTom maps, live traffic, online search and a Mega Pack that removes ads. The catch is the free data itself: OSM speed limits are patchy, and truck profiles need paid TomTom Truck maps.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
OpenStreetMap maps download per country to internal storage or an SD card and refresh monthly at no cost. With a map on the phone, search, routing and spoken turn-by-turn directions run without data, and Android Auto works in every edition with no surcharge. Sygic's Basic version plans routes but speaks no instructions, and Google Maps' offline areas expire unless refreshed and give no walking or transit directions offline. The limits come from volunteer data: MapFactor's own guide says OSM maps do not include every speed limit, and a September 2026 Play review describes a ferry terminal the app would only reach via the mainland.
Truck, bus and motorhome profiles accept height, width, weight and axle load, but MapFactor says these settings work correctly only with TomTom Truck maps, because free OSM data lacks bridge heights, bridge loads and narrow-street restrictions. Truck maps cover Europe, North America and Mexico, four Latin American countries, South Africa, seven Asian markets, Australia and New Zealand. An April 2026 Android update added Precision Truck Routing, which stores each restriction as a point rather than a whole road segment, so a driver can reach a loading dock just before a low bridge instead of getting no route. Paid Remote Commands let a dispatcher send a destination straight into navigation, and the 64 GB MapStick drive with TomTom Europe maps ships with a one-year Car Pro or Truck Pro license.
The add-ons are subscriptions, not one-time unlocks. Since 2021, Android TomTom maps are a one-year regional subscription with the quarterly releases included; old lifetime licenses never covered updates. Live HD Traffic is a separate regional plan at €2.59 a month, €4.99 for three months or €11.99 a year in about 90 territories, the US included. Online search, which the developer says became paid after Google started charging, is another yearly plan, as is the Mega Pack of alternative routes, Head-Up Display, color schemes and no ads. The US App Store lists the Mega Pack at $6.99 and a North America & Mexico map at $12.99; Google Play shows items from $0.99 to $59.99. Prices are regional and may change. Car Pro and Truck Pro bundle everything in one plan with a seven-day trial.
Developer replies on Google Play say the free app shows ads, though not during navigation; removing them comes with the Mega Pack or costs about €2 alone. Privacy statements conflict. The support FAQ says MapFactor collects no location data, yet the Play Data safety form lists precise location shared with other companies for advertising or marketing, with data not encrypted in transit, and the privacy policy allows location history to be shared anonymously with partners. Google Analytics can be switched off in settings, and no account is required. The iPhone version has not been updated since March 2024 and still labels CarPlay as beta, while the Android app was updated in September 2026.

We score it 6.7: free offline voice guidance with monthly map updates and free Android Auto is rare, but OSM data gaps, stacked subscriptions and conflicting privacy statements hold it back. Take it if you drive abroad or beyond coverage, or if you tow a caravan and will pay for TomTom Truck maps. Skip it if you want free live traffic, which Google Maps gives, or if you use an iPhone, where the app has not changed since March 2024.

Yes, the core app is free. Offline OpenStreetMap maps for 200+ countries, monthly map updates, voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, speed and camera warnings and Android Auto cost nothing. Paid extras are TomTom maps, Live HD Traffic, online search and the Mega Pack, which adds alternative routes and a Head-Up Display and removes ads.
Properly, only with paid TomTom Truck maps. A truck, bus or motorhome profile takes height, width, weight and axle load, but MapFactor says these settings work correctly only with TomTom Truck data, since free OpenStreetMap maps lack bridge heights and weight limits.
The US App Store lists a North America & Mexico map at $12.99, and MapFactor says map purchases are yearly subscriptions with quarterly updates. Live HD Traffic costs €2.59 a month, €4.99 for three months or €11.99 a year per region; the Mega Pack lists at $6.99. Prices vary by region and may change.
Yes. Once maps are downloaded, search, routing and voice navigation work without a connection; only Live HD Traffic and online search need data. Android purchases since June 2020 follow your Google account and iOS purchases your Apple ID, while settings, favorites and routes can be backed up to Google Drive or a local file.
