Best Dating Apps, Ranked by Our Scores

Free Tinder accounts can match and chat without paying, but Likes run on an unpublished daily cap, and the list of people who already liked you stays locked behind Gold or Platinum. The swipe-first app, owned by Match Group alongside Hinge and OkCupid, runs in 190+ countries and requires a video-selfie Face Check from new users in California. The catch is pricing that shifts by market and plan length.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
Without a subscription you can still build a profile, swipe, match and message, on the phone apps or on Tinder for Web. The first limit is on Likes: the help center lists unlimited daily Likes among Plus perks but publishes no figure for free accounts. The second is the Likes page: seeing who already liked you requires Gold or Platinum, though some iOS markets are testing it as a one-off purchase. Ads are the third limit, and even some Plus subscribers see them during tests. Double Date, which lets you invite up to three friends and opens a four-person group chat when two pairs match, costs nothing where it is offered.
Face Check is a short video selfie that tests whether a live person is holding the phone and whether that face matches the profile photos. By October 2025 it was mandatory for new accounts in California and seven countries, with other US states promised over the following months; a pass adds the Photo Verified badge. The video is deleted after review, but the FaceMap and FaceVector derived from it are kept for the life of the account and erased within 30 days of closing it. Accounts flagged for unusual activity are frozen until they pass a similar Photo Check, and September 2026 Play reviews describe verification loops that kept paying subscribers out for a week or more.
Plus removes the Like cap and ads and adds Rewind, Passport and incognito; Gold keeps all of that and adds weekly Super Likes, one 30-minute Boost a month and the Likes page; Platinum adds Priority Likes, shown before those of non-subscribers. The US App Store lists Tinder Plus at $9.99, four different Gold prices from $13.99 to $24.99 and single Boosts from $3.99 to $7.99, without plan lengths. The terms of use say promotional rates vary by region, plan length, past purchases and account activity. Stepping down is clumsy: Google Play and tinder.com do not support downgrades, so you cancel, wait for the plan to expire and subscribe again. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
Apple's privacy label says identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps, and lists precise location, contacts and photos among data linked to your identity. Google Play's Data safety form adds an optional sexual orientation field and says device IDs are shared for advertising. Chemistry, the AI recommendation layer that reached the US in March 2026, can draw on Camera Roll Scan: an opt-in scan that runs on the phone, then uploads selected photos to the company's servers and its AI provider, deleting them unless you add them to your profile. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription, which has to be stopped where it was bought, and profile data is held for 90 days before it is purged.

Tinder earns 6.9 because the free tier still does the core job, matching and chatting across 190+ countries, while monetisation drags the score: capped Likes, a paywalled Likes page and prices that differ from one buyer to the next. Take it if free matching is enough for you and you are fine passing a Face Check video selfie. Skip it if you object to face data being stored for the life of your account, or if you refuse to pay just to see who liked you.

Tinder does not publish a number. Free accounts get a limited daily allowance, and unlimited daily Likes come with Plus, Gold or Platinum. Matching, messaging and Double Date stay free; what free accounts miss is the Likes page, unlimited Rewinds, Passport and an ad-free feed.
For new accounts in California, yes, and the company said in October 2025 that other US states would follow in the coming months. Face Check is a short video selfie that confirms a live person matches the profile photos and earns a Photo Verified badge. Accounts flagged for unusual activity can also be frozen until they pass a similar Photo Check.
On the US App Store, Tinder Plus is listed at $9.99 and Gold at four prices from $13.99 to $24.99; plan lengths are not shown, and Platinum has no entry. The terms say promotional rates vary by region, plan length and past purchases, so check the current price in the app.
No. Deleting the app or the account leaves an active subscription billing until you cancel it where you bought it: Apple ID settings, Google Play's Payments & subscriptions, or Manage Payment Account on tinder.com. Subscriptions do not transfer between iPhone and Android. After deletion, profile data is held for 90 days before it is purged.
Hinge, OkCupid and Bumble are the obvious comparisons, but two of them share an owner with Tinder: Match Group also runs Hinge and OkCupid, while Bumble sits outside its portfolio. Hinge gives one free Rose a week, and OkCupid ranks people by a Match % built from answered questions.
