About Hinge Dating App: Match & Date

Hinge is free to join, match and chat on, but a free account sees incoming likes one at a time, gets one Rose and one Undo Skip a week, and leaves preferences such as height, children or politics to subscribers. Every match starts with a like on a specific photo or prompt. The catch: a reply quota blocks new likes while too many matches wait on you.

Hinge Review: It Rewards Replying, but Charges to See All Your Likes at Once

What Free Accounts Get: One Rose and One Undo a Week

Without paying you can build a profile, like a specific photo or prompt, match and message. Free accounts get a daily like quota the help center does not number, and see incoming likes one at a time rather than as a full list. You get one free Rose a week, which does not roll over, and one Undo Skip every seven days, shared across Discover, Standouts and Likes You. Standouts, a daily feed of profiles drawing the most attention, accepts only Roses. Advanced preferences such as height, children, family plans, politics and drinking are subscriber-only. Most Compatible suggests one profile a day, expiring after 24 hours.

Your Turn Limits and the Signals Badge: Rules That Reward Replies

Under Your Turn Limits, a progress bar appears above Matches as people waiting on your reply pile up; past the threshold you can neither send nor accept likes until you answer or end some chats. Paying does not exempt you, and matches are not told you hit the cap. Signals extends the idea with a profile badge that needs Selfie Verification, a complete profile and three of five habits, such as commenting on likes and confirming dates, measured over 30 days and never shown in your first week. It cannot be bought, though subscribers can prioritise badge holders in Discover. Match Group says Signals raised selfie verification among existing users by 15% in tests.

Hinge+, HingeX and a $33.11 Monthly Average per Payer

Both subscriptions remove the like quota, show every incoming like at once, add unlimited Undo Skips and unlock advanced preferences. HingeX adds Priority Likes, which stay near the top of the recipient's list for seven days, a light always-on Boost and recommendations ranked by your recent likes and skips. Plans run from one week to six months. The US App Store lists subscription purchases from $14.99 to $34.99 without naming plan lengths, three Roses at $9.99, twelve at $29.99 and Boosts at $9.99 or $19.99; a Boost lasts one hour, a Superboost 24. Match Group reported average revenue per paying user of $33.11 a month in Q2 2026, against $17.90 at Tinder. Roses and Boosts are non-refundable, and prices vary by region and can change.

Face Check, Convo Starters and What Stays on File

Selfie Verification compares a short video selfie with your photos and adds a badge. In regions where Face Check has been rolled out, the scan is mandatory, failing it locks Discover and likes even after a purchase, and face geometry data is kept for the life of the account, then deleted within 30 days of closing it. Convo Starters, AI tips under photos and prompts, send your public profile content and pronouns to OpenAI, which cannot train on them and deletes them within 30 days; you can opt out in settings. Google Play's Data safety form lists optional ethnicity, religious or political beliefs and sexual orientation, and says device IDs are shared for advertising. Closed accounts' data is kept three months for safety checks, or two years after a ban.

Verdict

Hinge earns 7.1 for a free tier that still does the core job, with likes tied to a specific photo or prompt and reply rules that cut unanswered chats, while monetisation drags the score: payers average $33.11 a month and the most useful preferences need a subscription. Take it if you want deliberate matches and reply promptly. Skip it if you object to face geometry data on file, or will not pay to filter by height or children.

Core function8.5Prompt-based likes, a daily Most Compatible pick and Your Turn Limits all work without paying.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Hinge free to use?

Yes, matching and messaging cost nothing. Free accounts send a limited number of likes per day, see incoming likes one at a time, and get one Rose and one Undo Skip a week. Subscriptions add unlimited likes, the full likes list and preferences such as height and children; Roses and Boosts are sold separately.

2

What happens when you hit the Your Turn Limit on Hinge?

You cannot send or accept new likes until you reply to a match who is waiting on you or end that chat. A progress bar above Matches warns you as you approach the limit. Subscribers are not exempt, and matches are not told you hit the cap.

3

How much does Hinge+ or HingeX cost?

There is no single price. Plans run from weekly to six-monthly, and the US App Store lists subscription purchases from $14.99 to $34.99. Match Group reported average revenue of $33.11 a month per paying user in Q2 2026, and says discounts can depend on whether you use its other apps. Check the in-app price for your region.

4

Does deleting Hinge cancel my subscription?

Only if you paid through Hinge payment, the Stripe checkout offered on US iPhones; deleting the account then ends the plan at once and forfeits the remaining time. App Store and Google Play subscriptions keep billing until you cancel them with Apple or Google, at least 24 hours before renewal.

5

What are the best alternatives to Hinge?

Tinder and Bumble are the closest comparisons. Tinder shares an owner with Hinge: Match Group, which passes account data between its brands to ban fake or abusive accounts, and Tinder's paying users averaged $17.90 a month in Q2 2026. Bumble belongs to Bumble Inc., a separate company that also runs Badoo and BFF.
