About Solitaire Associations

Hitapps' card-and-word hybrid deals a Klondike-style spread, but instead of suits you build stacks under category cards such as Flowers, Islands or Auction, drawing word and picture cards from a pile. Every tap on the deck spends one of a level's limited moves, and 2026 updates added locks, keys and five lives. The catch is advertising: Ad Breaks interrupt levels unless you pay for No Ads, $9.99 in the US App Store.

Solitaire Associations Journey Review: A Clever Word Hybrid Taxed by Ad Breaks

Category Cards, One Draw Pile and a Move Counter

Each board is a solitaire spread with a draw pile in the corner. A column becomes a stack only once a category card such as Molluscs or Jewelry sits on top; matching word and picture cards go beneath it, and a counter (0/8, say) shows how many are missing. The limit is moves: store screenshots show budgets from 25 to 107, and Hitapps confirms that tapping the deck costs one, so drawing and placing a card takes two. Run out and the level is lost unless coins or a rewarded video buy more. Since April 2026 a loss also costs one of five lives, which refill for free over time, and a restart reshuffles the deal.

Locks, Keys, Ordered Stacks and the 1,200-Coin Joker

The 2026 updates stacked rules on top of the sorting. Locks, added in April, freeze a stack until you uncover key cards; September brought ordered stacks, where some categories (one player cites Jack, Queen, King) must be filled in sequence. Hitapps says neither can be switched off, and one reviewer counted two locks and five keys on Super Hard level 51. Escape valves cost coins: a Joker is 1,200 and an undo 800 once the free ones are spent, per the store screenshots. Word choice adds friction; the listing's own screenshot files Hammer under Auction, a pairing one reviewer called wrong. NYT Connections asks the same association question with 16 words, four groups, four mistakes and no move meter.

Ad Breaks, and What the $9.99 No Ads Option Removes

Both stores flag advertising, and the developer's account of its paid opt-out sketches the volume: No Ads strips the forced pop-ups and banners shown in and between levels. Play reviews describe an Ad Break after a finished column, more ads after each level and a banner under the board; some ads open the Play Store, which the developer attributes to third-party ad networks. At launch there was no paid opt-out at all. The US App Store now lists No Ads at $9.99, a No Ads Pack at $19.99 and coin packs from $1.99 to $29.99; Google Play's range runs to $99.99 per item. Microsoft Solitaire Collection sells its Premium Edition from $1.99. Prices vary by region and may change.

19 Ad Partners, No Cloud Save and an 18+ Clause

The App Store privacy label lists identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as used to track you across other companies' apps. On Google Play the developer declares no third-party sharing, yet lists precise location among collected data and says data isn't encrypted in transit; the privacy policy names 19 advertising and analytics services, including AdMob, AppLovin and ironSource. Progress lives on the phone: Hitapps told players in 2026 that removed or transferred game data cannot be restored, after one lost level 390 and another level 1,961. Its terms require users to be 18, despite 4+ and Everyone store ratings, and call coin purchases non-refundable.

Pros

  • Category cards turn Klondike-style columns into a word association puzzle
  • Picture cards mix with words, so lotus art files under Flowers
  • Lives refill for free over time, so waiting replaces paying
  • No Ads at $9.99 strips forced pop-ups and banners in and between levels
  • Runs on iPhone, iPad, M1 Macs and Windows through Google Play Games
  • Weekend Corgi Race pits your level-clearing speed against players worldwide

Cons

  • Ad Breaks interrupt levels mid-play until you pay for No Ads
  • Drawing from the deck costs a move, so budgets run out fast
  • No cloud save: Hitapps says progress cannot move to a new phone
  • Offline promise is shaky; reviewers report new levels won't load without data

Verdict

A 6.3 for a genuinely new idea weighed down by its business model. Sorting words under category cards on a solitaire spread is a smart hybrid, picture cards and locks keep boards varied, and the weekend Corgi Race adds a little competition. Take it if you will pay $9.99 for No Ads early and enjoy move-counting puzzles. Skip it if you want relaxed offline solitaire, switch phones often or expect to clear Super Hard levels without coins.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Solitaire Associations Journey offline?

Not reliably. Both store listings promise play without Wi-Fi and Google Play tags it Offline, but Play reviewers from April to September 2026 report that a level started online finishes in airplane mode while the next one will not load. Wordscapes is the steadier word game for a flight.

2

Can you beat Solitaire Associations without paying?

Hitapps says yes: it builds every level to be solvable within the starting move budget. Players on Super Hard stages report days of retries, and help costs coins (1,200 for a Joker, 800 for an undo in the store screenshots) or rewarded videos. No Ads is $9.99 in the US App Store and leaves the move and life limits in place; prices vary by region.

3

How much space does Solitaire Associations Journey need?

Over 400 MB on iPhone and about 260 MB on Android. It needs iOS 13 or Android 8.0 and also runs on M1 Macs, Apple Vision Pro and Windows through Google Play Games. Plan before changing phones: Hitapps says game data cannot be transferred, so a new device starts from the beginning.

4

Can you play Solitaire Associations with friends?

No. Google Play lists it as single-player, with no head-to-head mode or shared board. The only competitive element is the Weekend Corgi Race, an event in which you race players worldwide to clear levels fastest. Progress and coins stay on one device, so a family cannot share them across phones either.

5

How many levels does Solitaire Associations Journey have?

Well over a thousand, judging by players. Hitapps publishes no count and its launch listing promised hundreds, but a Play reviewer reported reaching level 1,961 in September 2026. Pace is set by lives (five, refilling over time) and by Super Hard stages that reviewers say can take days of retries without coins.
