About Word Cookies!

BitMango's 2016 word puzzle has you swipe letters around a frying pan to fill a crossword-style grid, while valid words outside the answers drop into Jack's Cookie Jar for bonus coins. Both listings now rule out forced full-screen ads; videos play when you opt in for rewards. The friction moved elsewhere: menu pop-ups, card collections and, since September 2026, a birth-date prompt longtime players resent.

Word Cookies Review: Forced Ads Are Gone, the Pop-Ups Are Not

The Frying Pan, Jack's Cookie Jar and 200-Level Drops

Each level hands you four to seven letter tiles in a pan; drag across them to spell words and fill the grid above. Words the puzzle does not need go to Jack's Cookie Jar, which pays coins when full, but only on a level's first play; BitMango's help center excludes two-letter words, abbreviations, prefixes, suffixes and offensive terms. Levels come in flavor packs (Ginger, Milk, Vanilla, Cinnamon), the listings claim more than 30,000, and the September 10 and 18 updates each added 200. Attach levels glue two letters into one tile, such as TE, and Cross Word levels arrived on August 20, 2026.

Honey Dipper, Fortune Cookies and 21 Taps to a Puzzle

The Honey Dipper booster switches itself on at the start of a level, revealing the first letters of some answers, with usage scaled to the level's word count; one August 2026 reviewer objected to hints they never asked for. On June 17, 2026 the long-running daily prize wheel gave way to a Daily Fortune Cookie, drawing a stream of one-star App Store reviews, and a September reviewer says the cookies now mostly yield collection cards. Collections unlock at Vanilla level 8 and run as timed events, currently twelve themed sets from Vampire to Circus. Two App Store reviewers in July 2026 counted 21 taps through rewards and offers before reaching a puzzle.

No Forced Ads, but a $4.99 Two-Week Premium Pass

Both store listings now promise no forced interstitial ads, yet Google Play's Contains ads badge and Apple's Advertising label stay, because rewarded videos pay coins and double or quadruple level rewards. Reviews from 2018 to early 2025 complained of an ad after nearly every puzzle; since November 2025 reviewers call them opt-in. Those videos can hang and void the reward, a problem BitMango covers in its own help article. The US App Store's top purchases run from 240 coins for $0.99 to 6,240 for $19.99; Premium Pass costs $4.99 and lasts two weeks (BitMango's example: 100 coins where the free track pays 10), and the $2.99 Piggy Bank cannot be disabled. Wordscapes sells the same 240, 720 and 1,340-coin packs at the same prices; Zen Word offers Remove Ads Forever for $4.99. Prices are regional and may change.

September 2026's Birth-Date Gate and What the Labels Share

Version 2618.1.0 began demanding a full birth date before the game would open: 20 of 52 September App Store reviews and 11 of the latest 199 Google Play reviews object. BitMango replied that the pop-up was mistakenly shown to players not required to give a birth date under COPPA, and promised a fix. Its July 28, 2026 privacy policy describes an age screen and bars behavioral advertising for users identified as under 13. For everyone else, Apple's label lists purchases, coarse location, identifiers and usage data as used for tracking, and Play's Data safety form shares device IDs and approximate location for advertising. Only players over 18 may buy coins, per the terms.

Pros

  • No forced interstitial ads; videos play only when you opt in
  • Jack's Cookie Jar pays bonus coins for valid words outside the answers
  • Over 30,000 levels, with 200 more added in each September 2026 update
  • Attach and Cross Word levels vary the classic letter-wheel formula
  • Main levels play offline, according to both store listings
  • Teams of up to 50 players open at level 23 for 50 coins

Cons

  • A September 2026 birth-date prompt blocked play; BitMango calls it a bug
  • Reviewers count up to 21 taps of pop-ups before reaching a puzzle
  • Rewarded videos can freeze and void the coins they promised
  • Piggy Bank cannot be switched off, and Premium Pass lasts two weeks

Verdict

A 7.2 for a letter-wheel game with more than 30,000 boards that no longer forces full-screen ads on you. Jack's Cookie Jar, Attach and Cross Word levels and Baking Rush give it a long tail. Take it if you want a word puzzle for flights and commutes and can ignore offers. Skip it if pop-up menus, card collections or a birth-date prompt wear you down, or if you expect to pay once to make them disappear.

Gameplay7.5Swipe-to-spell grids with Jack's Cookie Jar, Attach and Cross Word variants; reviewers flag obscure answer words.
Controls7.0Swiping across the pan works well, but reviewers report 21 taps of pop-ups before a puzzle starts.
Replay value8.5Over 30,000 levels, 200-level drops, a Daily Puzzle calendar and a two-week Baking Rush once you finish.
Graphics & sound7.5Cookie-shaped tiles on a frying pan and flavor-named packs; tidy and readable rather than striking.
Monetisation6.0No forced interstitials, but a two-week $4.99 Premium Pass, an always-on Piggy Bank and freezing reward videos.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Word Cookies offline?

Yes. Both store listings promise an offline mode, Google Play tags the game Offline, and App Store reviewers confirm play without Wi-Fi. Teams and progress syncing need a connection. After an unstable session, a data pop-up may ask which copy to keep; BitMango says to pick the one with more Points, or recent progress can be lost.

2

Can you play Word Cookies without paying?

Yes. Coins come from clearing levels, filling Jack's Cookie Jar and opt-in videos. Paid extras start with 240 coins for $0.99, plus a $2.99 Piggy Bank and a $4.99 Premium Pass lasting two weeks, per the US App Store; two 2026 reviewers say hint prices quadrupled. BitMango's terms allow purchases only by players over 18.

3

How much storage does Word Cookies need?

About 467 MB on iPhone and iPad, with iOS 15 or later; Apple Vision Pro is supported too. The Android download is roughly 223 MB, and BitMango recommends at least 2 GB of free memory. A free Windows version is listed on the Microsoft Store. Progress moves between phones only if you link Facebook, Google or Apple sign-in first.

4

Can you play Word Cookies with friends?

Only loosely. Google Play lists it as single-player, with no shared board. From level 23 you can create a team for 50 coins or join one of up to 50 members, chat and compete in team events such as the Pancake Tournament. iPhone players also get Game Center leaderboards and achievements.

5

How many levels does Word Cookies have?

More than 30,000, according to both store listings, and each September 2026 update added 200. Players who clear every main level move into Baking Rush, a two-week contest whose top three scorers win rewards, while new packs arrive. A Daily Puzzle calendar adds one board per day, and timed collections run alongside.
