Claims opened on September 21 in the $250 million settlement over Apple's delayed personalised Siri. US buyers of seven iPhone models bought between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 can file for roughly $25 per device, rising to as much as $95 if fewer people claim. The deadline is December 21, 2026, and the final approval hearing is set for February 24, 2027. Apple denies the allegations.
What was announced
The claims site went live on September 20 and began accepting filings on September 21. The case is about advertising: in June 2024 Apple demonstrated a personalised Siri with personal context and on-screen awareness in presentations and commercials, and in March 2025 delayed that version. The suit called the marketing false advertising; Apple denies all of the allegations and settled, in its words, to avoid the cost and risk of a trial.
Who can file, per the settlement terms:
- US residents who bought an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16, 16e, 16 Plus, 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max
- between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025
- in the United States, for personal or business use rather than resale, as the original purchaser.
The payout is roughly $25 per eligible device, and can rise to about $95 if fewer people claim than projected — or fall below $25 if more do. The claim window runs to December 21, 2026, and the court's final approval hearing is February 24, 2027. Claims are filed at smartphoneaisettlement.com.
What it means for players
Two practical points. First, the payout is per device, so a household that bought two qualifying iPhones in that window files twice. Second, the amount is not fixed: it moves with how many people file, which is why the range is as wide as $25 to $95.
Money does not arrive on approval. Even a clean approval on February 24 means distribution weeks later, and appeals can push that further. Anyone eligible should file before December 21 and then forget about it.
The Siri that was advertised did eventually ship: the conversational Siri AI arrived with iOS 27 on September 14, 2026, more than two years after the original demonstration — which is the gap the case is about.
What happens next
Claims close December 21, 2026. The court hears final approval on February 24, 2027, and payments follow only after that. Apple has not announced any further action tied to the case.
