Epic confirmed the crossover on September 27 with a trailer on Fortnite's own channel: the Fazbear band moves into Battle Royale as animatronic bosses, and Fortnitemares begins on October 1. It lands on the same day another crossover leaves — the Kingdom Hearts skins Epic put in the shop this month come out of it on October 1 — which makes next Wednesday a swap rather than an addition.
What was announced
Epic posted the trailer on Fortnite's official channel on September 27 under the title Five Nights At Freddy's Joins Fortnitemares 2026. Its description is the whole announcement: the Fazbear band has taken over Battle Royale, players face the animatronic animal bosses and survive the night, and Fortnitemares begins October 1.
A second clip the same day repeats the date with the franchise's own catchphrase. Before either, on September 24, the channel ran a teaser simply called Fortnitemares is Coming.
So the shape of it is known and the detail is not. Epic has named the date, the mode and the fact that the animatronics are bosses rather than only skins. It has not published a shop list, a price, the length of the event, or whether the bosses appear in ordinary matches or in a separate playlist.
Fortnite has been stacking collaborations into this window. The same channel announced Persona 5 Royal on September 24, and the Kingdom Hearts set arrived earlier in the month. Fortnitemares now lands on top of both.
What it means for players
October 1 is a two-way date. Fortnite's Kingdom Hearts skins leave the shop that day, and the horror event starts it, so anyone waiting to buy from the earlier crossover is choosing between the last hours of one and the opening of the other.
The bosses are the part worth reading twice. A cosmetic crossover changes how the lobby looks; a boss changes how a match plays. Fortnitemares has previously added map changes and temporary abilities, and Epic's own wording here — face the bosses and survive the night — points at something that affects the round rather than the wardrobe.
What nobody should assume yet is the shape of the rewards. Epic has said nothing about whether the animatronics are earnable through a free track, sold in the shop, or both, and every Fortnitemares has handled that differently.
What happens next
Fortnitemares begins on October 1, which is when the event, the bosses and whatever comes with them go live. Epic usually publishes the full details on the day rather than before, so the shop list and the mode rules arrive with the update itself.
The other thing to watch is what happens to the Kingdom Hearts items after they leave. Fortnite shop sets normally return, but Epic gave no return window for that one, so October 1 remains the deadline as announced.
