Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Rebuilds Itself on a New Server

Netmarble opened pre-registration on September 22 for the Global Content Alignment server of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, which goes live on October 13. It is a rebuild rather than an update: redesigned progression, rebalanced combat with a dual-weapon system, a membership and battle-pass economy, and a reward programme that carries over what players did on the Western server.

What was announced

Pre-registration opened on September 22 through the game's site and the Netmarble launcher and runs until the server opens on October 13. A reward-lookup tool sits beside it and stays available until December 31.

What changes on the new server, per Netmarble:

• Progression redesigned and growth rebalanced so levelling follows a flatter curve;
• Combat expanded, headlined by a dual weapon system that lets a character swap weapons mid-fight;
• Multiplayer strengthened on both the co-op and competitive sides;
• Membership and battle-pass structure replacing parts of the old monetisation;
• upgraded visuals and quality-of-life changes.

Existing players are not left behind: the reward programme is calculated from character progression and cumulative purchases on the Western server, and the lookup tool shows what each account receives before the move.

What it means for players

A separate "alignment" server is what a studio does when the live game has drifted too far from the version it wants to run globally — usually because regional builds diverged. Practically, this is a fresh start with compensation, and the compensation is the thing to check now rather than on launch day: the lookup tool is open, and it is the only way to see what your account carries over.

The dual-weapon system is the change with the clearest effect on play, since it turns weapon choice from a build decision into an in-combat one.

The economy change matters just as much. Moving to a membership and battle-pass structure is usually a move away from one-off packs toward a monthly cadence — cheaper for a steady player, worse value for someone who logs in twice a month.

Nothing about the move is automatic, either: pre-registering is what puts an account on the new server's reward list, and the window closes when the server opens.

What happens next

Pre-registration closes when the server opens on October 13. Netmarble has not said what happens to the existing Western server afterwards, which is the open question for anyone with a long-running character on it.
