iOS 27 Is Out: Siri AI, Ask to Browse and Which iPhones Get What

Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, according to its newsroom post. The headline is Siri AI, a conversational assistant with personal context, on-screen awareness and the ability to act inside apps — but only on iPhone 15 Pro and later, in English first, and not in the EU or China at launch. Everyone else on iPhone 11 or newer gets the Photos, Safari, Call Context and child-safety changes.

What was announced

Apple's newsroom post of September 14 lists the iOS 27 features rolling out that day:

• Siri AI, described as "a more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, onscreen awareness" and system-wide app actions. It ships as a beta in English; French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish follow in October. It is not available in the EU or China at launch.
• Visual Intelligence — ask Siri about what is on screen, or use a Siri mode inside the Camera app — and Write with Siri, which drafts or rewrites text from a description.
• Photos: Spatial Reframing, an Extend tool that fills in the edges of a photo, and an upgraded Clean Up.
• Safari: tabs grouped by topic, notifications when a website changes, and custom extensions.
• Call Context, which surfaces confirmation codes and similar details during calls with businesses.
• Child safety: Ask to Browse, which requires a parent's approval before a child opens a new website; Communication Safety extended to block gore and violent content; age-based safeguards; and a redesigned Screen Time with app allowances and schedules.

Siri AI and the other Apple Intelligence features require iPhone 16 or later, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. The update installs from Settings → General → Software Update on the same models that ran iOS 26, back to the iPhone 11.

What it means for players

Two of the changes touch mobile gaming directly. Call Context and Siri's app actions work only with apps that adopt Apple's App Intents, so game and app developers decide whether Siri can, for example, open a specific mode — early on, most will not. The child-safety set matters more: Ask to Browse and the new Screen Time allowances give parents per-app time limits and website approval without third-party software, which changes how a kid's game time gets managed on a family iPhone.

If your phone is an iPhone 15 or older non-Pro, iOS 27 is still worth installing for Photos and Safari, but the Siri you see is the old one.

What happens next

The next languages for Siri AI arrive in October. Apple has not given a date for Siri AI in the EU or China, and has not published a feature list for the first point update.
