Nothing Opens Its Android 17 Beta, and the Window Is One Week

Nothing OS 5.0, the company's build of Android 17, opened as a public beta on September 22 for the Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a). Enrolment runs for one week through the Beta Hub app; miss it and the next stop is the stable release in early November.
What was announced
The open beta reached three models on September 22: Nothing Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a). It follows the earlier beta for the Phone (3), which launched in late August.
According to Nothing, joining has conditions. A phone must be on the required stable build and running Beta Hub v2.0, and enrolment happens inside that app; Nothing notes the update can take a few minutes to appear after signing up. The important condition is time: the enrolment window is one week. After it closes, there is no way in, and the wait is the stable release in early November.
What is in it is Nothing's version of Android 17: a refreshed interface with wallpaper-aware colours, transparent widgets, redesigned icons and new clock faces on top of Google's changes.
What it means for players
A one-week window is unusually short, and it is a deliberate filter — Nothing wants a fixed cohort to test a build rather than a stream of joiners through the cycle. If you want it, the decision has to be made this week.
The standard beta caution applies more than usual on a phone you rely on: betas of a major Android version routinely break banking apps, payment features and battery life, and rolling back to the stable build usually means wiping the device. On a secondary phone it is fine; on your only one, early November is six weeks away.
Worth separating from the noise around Android 17 this week: Samsung has just pushed its own rollout back without a new date, while Nothing is ahead of schedule on three mid-range phones. The gap between a small manufacturer and a large one on update speed is rarely this visible.
What happens next
Stable Nothing OS 5.0 for these three models is scheduled for early November. Nothing has not published the rollout order for its remaining devices.
