Best Drawing and Design Apps on Mobile, Ranked
Sketchbook is the best drawing app on a phone: its brushes, perspective guides and symmetry are free, it shows no ads, and the only upgrade is a $2.99
ibis Paint X is free to draw with, but not free of ads: banners stay on screen, and some brushes unlock for four hours per video ad. Behind them sits a full mobile studio from Japan's ibis inc., with vector layers, frame-by-frame animation, manga panels and PSD export. The catch is a stack of payments: a $15.99 ad removal, a Premium subscription, and Smart Credits that some filters now consume.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
Usage time on the free edition is unlimited, but it is fenced in at specific points. Banner ads sit at the top and bottom of the screen, and certain brushes ask for a video ad before each four-hour session; recent Play reviewers also report an ad every time a canvas closes. The Vector tool stops after one hour a day, Original Brush Pattern imports cap at five, and Cloud Storage holds 64 MB. Much stays open: layers with 27 blending modes, the Frame Divider tool for manga panels, frame-by-frame animation, and AI Super-resolution x2, which exports at double the canvas size on every tier.
AI Disturbance is a save-dialog toggle that adds noise at a strength set by slider, meant to spoil LoRA or DreamBooth fine-tuning of image generators such as Stable Diffusion. In the developer's own test, a LoRA trained on 18 illustrations by one artist copied the style closely; after 80% noise, its output lost quality and composition. The effect is not guaranteed for every model, and the toggle is Premium-only. Since version 14.0.8 in July 2026, Wacom Yuify can embed an invisible authorship micromark in PNG exports, checkable in the free Yuifinder browser tool. The terms also promise not to train AI on user creations without consent.
Version 14.0.0 (March 2026) renamed Prime Membership to Premium Membership and the Remove Ads Add-on to the Ad Removal Upgrade. Premium lists at $4.49 a month with a 7-day trial or $27.99 a year with a first-month trial, adding 20 GB of cloud space, 3D Materials, animation audio tracks, CMYK export and a 30-day Recently Deleted bin. The one-time $15.99 Ad Removal clears banners, brush ads and the video watermark, but unlocks no Premium tools. Smart Credits, added in 14.1.0, meter filters such as Watercolor at 1.5 points per use; App Store packs start at 300 points for $2.99. Procreate Pocket costs $5.99 once, Sketchbook sells a $2.99 Premium Bundle, and MediBang Paint charges $5.99 to remove ads. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
Original art made in the app belongs to its creator, and the official FAQ allows commercial use. Materials, stamp brushes and Premium fonts can't be redistributed as reusable assets or harvested for work finished mainly in other software. Timelapse and animation exports use H.264, and the FAQ warns that commercial videos over 12 minutes may owe a codec royalty. The privacy policy names 14 ad networks for the store builds, including Google AdMob, AppLovin and TikTok's Pangle, and Google Play's Data safety form lists approximate location and device IDs shared for advertising. Permissions for photos, microphone and notifications are optional.

We scored ibis Paint X 7.6 for vector line art, manga panels, animation and PSD export, most of it usable without paying. Take it if you draw on Android, where Procreate Pocket isn't sold, or want a free first studio; $15.99 removes the ads for good. Skip it if ad-funded data sharing bothers you, if you need audio or 3D tools without a subscription, or if Sketchbook's ad-free $2.99 bundle covers your needs.

Yes, drawing is free with no time limit, but the free edition shows banner ads and asks for a video ad to use certain brushes for four hours at a time. The Vector tool is capped at one hour a day and Cloud Storage at 64 MB. Removing ads costs $15.99 once; Premium tools need a subscription.
It makes copying harder, not impossible. AI Disturbance adds adjustable noise when you save an image, aimed at LoRA and DreamBooth fine-tuning of models such as Stable Diffusion. The developer says results depend on the model and are not guaranteed. It requires Premium; Wacom Yuify authorship marks for PNG files arrived in July 2026.
Premium costs $4.49 a month or $27.99 a year in the U.S., with a 7-day trial on the monthly plan and a first-month trial on the yearly one. It includes Smart Credits that refill on the 1st and expire at month's end. It doesn't carry over to the paid ibisPaint edition. Check the current price in the app; it varies by region.
Artworks on your device and existing folders stay, but folders can no longer be edited or reordered. Thirty days after Premium ends, cloud artworks beyond the free 64 MB are deleted, and free cloud artworks are deleted after 180 days without use. Uninstalling the app also deletes artwork not synced to the cloud, so export first.
Yes. The developer's FAQ says original artwork made in the app belongs to you and may be used commercially. Materials, stamp brushes and Premium fonts can't be redistributed as reusable assets, and commercial videos longer than 12 minutes may owe an H.264 royalty. We don't give legal advice; check the terms for your specific use.
