Leonardo.Ai Review: Wide Model Choice, but Free Images Stay Public

What 150 free tokens a day buy, and what stays locked

Free accounts get 150 tokens a day, and unused ones expire at the 24-hour reset instead of rolling over. The help center prices a default 768 by 768 image at 1 token and an upscale at 5, but each model has its own cost, shown on the Generate button before you commit. Flow State, a scrolling stream of image ideas, costs 1 token a picture and stops at eight at a time with Scroll to Generate on. Video is open to free users only on some models, carries a watermark, and starting from your own photo needs a paid plan. Unlimited Generations, a slower mode that starts once tokens run out, covers images from Premium and video as well on Ultimate.

Nano Banana, Veo 3 and an Inline Editor behind one prompt bar

The model picker is the real feature: for images, the help center lists Nano Banana and Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image-1 and 1.5, FLUX.1 Kontext, FLUX.2 Pro and Seedream 4.5 beside Leonardo's own models. These Omni models take up to six reference images, depending on the model, plus a sentence on how to combine them, and the Inline Editor opens over any finished picture, so a change is typed rather than masked. Video has its own tool with Veo 3 and Kling Video 3.0, and Motion 2.0 adds Motion Controls for camera moves. Video editing has a catch: the help center warns that it may simply regenerate the clip and is unreliable for keeping a scene consistent. A Blueprints tab lists templates with titles such as Change my hairstyle and Urban Glare Portrait.

Free images are public, and privacy starts at $15.99 a month

Free generations go to the public feed, where other users can view and remix them, and Leonardo keeps a licence to use public images and prompts to run and promote the service. Private Mode, changing visibility afterwards and deleting a generated image all require a paid plan, a complaint that recurs in Play reviews across several languages. The US App Store lists Essential at $15.99 a month, Premium at $39.99 and Ultimate at $79.99, with yearly prices of $159.99, $384.99 and $749.99. Top-up packs of 5,500, 35,000 and 165,000 tokens cost $13, $65 and $259 and need an active plan. Google Play shows a different range, $9.49 to $749.99, so compare prices in your own store.

  • One prompt bar reaches Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX, Seedream and Leonardo's own models
  • Free accounts refill 150 tokens every 24 hours and can use some video models
  • Omni models take up to six reference images in a single prompt
  • Paid plans bank unused tokens for up to three months

Verdict

Our 7.0 rewards a model picker that puts Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX and Veo 3 in one app, and subtracts for a free tier that publishes every generation and locks deletion behind a plan. Take it to compare image and video models, if a $15.99 monthly plan is acceptable. Skip it if you need private, deletable results on a free account, an interface in another language, or an app for children, since the App Store rates it 18+.

Core function8.5Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX and Veo 3 sit behind one prompt bar, and an inline editor handles revisions.
Ease of use7.5Token cost shows on the Generate button, but the interface is English only and several Play reviews describe failed sign-ins.
Monetisation5.5Free tokens expire daily, private mode and image deletion need a plan, and App Store plans run $15.99 to $79.99 monthly.
Performance7.026 MB on Android, but renders run on servers, unlimited mode is slower by design, and Play reviews cite slow video renders.
Privacy & permissions5.5Play lists no data shared with third parties, yet free generations are public and cannot be deleted without paying.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Leonardo AI free to use?

Yes, in small daily portions: a free account gets 150 tokens that reset every 24 hours and expire unused. Some video models are locked, free videos are watermarked, prompts face stricter filters than on paid plans, and free generations are public. Commercial use of what you make is allowed, but a free account cannot make images private or delete them.

2

What AI models does Leonardo AI use?

According to its help center, the image picker covers Nano Banana and Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image-1 and 1.5, FLUX.1 Kontext, FLUX.2 Pro and Seedream 4.5, beside Leonardo's own models. Video options include Veo 3 and Kling Video 3.0. Which ones unlock, and what each costs in tokens, depends on your plan and shows before you generate.

3

How much does Leonardo AI cost per month?

On the US App Store the monthly plans are Essential $15.99, Premium $39.99 and Ultimate $79.99, or $159.99, $384.99 and $749.99 a year. Paid plans bank unused tokens up to 25,500, 75,000 and 180,000 respectively. Top-up packs start at $13 for 5,500 tokens and need an active plan. Prices are regional and can change.

4

How do I cancel Leonardo AI and delete my images?

The help center says cancel under Settings, Subscription and Billing, Cancel Plan; the plan then runs until its renewal date, when unused tokens expire. Plans bought through a store are managed in that store's subscription settings. Deleting generated images, by contrast, requires a paid plan. Refunds are assessed by a human agent through chat support.

5

What are good alternatives to Leonardo AI?

Canva AI Photo & Video Editor suits template-based design with a small free AI allowance, Adobe Express puts Firefly inside a layout editor, and Kling AI is built around video, with plans from $10 in its iPhone app. Pick Leonardo when you want to switch between several third-party models in one prompt bar, and one of the others when the job is layout or video.
