About Pill Reminder MyTherapy

MyTherapy is a medication reminder from smartpatient, a Munich company bought in 2021 by the online pharmacy group Shop Apotheke Europe, now Redcare Pharmacy. Beyond dose alarms, it logs intakes, counts pills for refill alerts, records injection sites and more than 20 health measurements, and holds family profiles in one account. The catch: since spring 2026, Play reviews describe ads on the reminder screen itself, and removing them costs money.

MyTherapy Review: Deep Medication Tracking, Now With Ads on Alarms

Free to Download, but Ads Now Sit on the Reminder Screen

The developer's stated line is that ads pay for the app without limiting core functionality, and two of the three paid items on the US App Store are named Ad-free Subscription. Both Google Play and the App Store flag the app as containing ads. The privacy policy names Google AdMob and Ad Manager as ad servers, with Unity Ads, Meta Audience Network, Pangle, Mintegral and Liftoff mediated through them. Since at least April 2026, one-star Play reviews describe ads on the reminder screen, some playing video with sound, and others say a stray tap near Confirm opened an ad instead. One reviewer who had paid a one-off ad-free fee years earlier wrote in August 2026 that the ads came back. The developer's replies repeat that ads fund future development.

Refill Reminders: How the Pill Counter Decides When to Warn You

For each medication you enter the units on hand and a threshold; the store screenshots show 50 pills with an alert at 10. The counter drops as doses are confirmed, and the latest iOS release notes add a separate low-stock notification. A UK reviewer in September 2026 pointed to a gap: packs there usually hold 28 days, and there is no quick way to add stock in multiples of 28. People on injectable treatments get a second named tool, injection site tracking, which records where each shot went so sites can be rotated. Family profiles let one account hold the medications of children or parents too. Neither feature judges whether a dose or a site is right; that stays with your doctor or pharmacist.

Where Your Data Goes: EU Servers, Ad Identifiers and an OpenAI Chatbot

The developer says synced data goes to a central database in the European Union run on Amazon Web Services, and its privacy policy cites regular ISO 27001 audits. The same policy says you can skip the account, but then data lives on one phone and cannot be restored if that phone is lost. The ad side is wider. Apple's privacy label lists identifiers as data used to track you, plus device ID, usage data and advertising data for third-party advertising. Google Play's Data safety form says diagnostics and user IDs are shared for analytics, and that you can request deletion. The policy states that no health data goes to ad partners. Messages typed to Mighty, the in-app AI assistant, are processed by OpenAI. We describe these disclosures; we do not certify the app as safe, so check the current terms with smartpatient.

Pros

  • Refill alerts count your stock and warn at a threshold you set
  • Injection site tracking records where each shot went, for rotation
  • Family profiles keep several people's medications in one account
  • A one-time code lets someone view your progress for 45 minutes
  • Over 20 measurement types, with Apple Health and Health Connect import
  • Synced data sits on EU servers, and an account is optional

Cons

  • Ads can appear on reminder screens, some with video and sound
  • Removing ads means a subscription or a $49.99 lifetime purchase (US price)
  • Reviews since the September 2026 update report late or unregistered reminders
  • Reviewers say reminders follow phone time, with no time-zone option for travel

Verdict

MyTherapy earns 6.9 because refill counts, injection-site logging, 20+ measurements, family profiles and a 45-minute sharing code sit in one app, with synced data on EU servers. The score drops for ads that reach reminder screens and for late-reminder reports since the September 2026 update. It suits people managing several medications who accept ads or a $49.99 lifetime fee (US price, may change). Skip it if an ad on a dose alarm is a dealbreaker; Medisafe's App Store listing declares no advertising. Medication questions belong with your doctor or pharmacist.

Core function8.0Reminders, refill counts, injection-site log, 20+ measurements and family profiles share one app.
Ease of use7.0Doses confirm with a tap, but reviewers find the full-screen reminder and newer layout crowded.
Monetisation5.5Ads reach reminder screens; US ad-free tiers list at $0.99 and $9.99, lifetime at $49.99.
Performance6.5Install size tops 190 MB on both stores; recent reviews report crashes and delayed reminders.
Privacy & permissions7.0EU-hosted data and ISO 27001 audits, offset by tracking identifiers and six named ad networks.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is MyTherapy free?

Yes, the download is free, and the developer's replies say ads fund the app without limiting core functionality. The free version shows ads, and since spring 2026 users report them on reminder screens. The paid items on the US App Store are named Ad-free Subscription and MyTherapy Plus Lifetime; check the current offer in the app, as terms vary by region.

2

Can I share my MyTherapy data with my doctor?

Yes, in two ways. The app can produce a PDF report with the medication plan, intake history and mood and symptom diary. It can also create a one-time code for the web dashboard: whoever enters it can view your progress for 45 minutes, and the code expires after use. The privacy policy asks you to share it only with people you trust.

3

How much does MyTherapy cost without ads?

On the US App Store, the in-app purchase list shows an Ad-free Subscription at $0.99 and at $9.99, plus MyTherapy Plus Lifetime at $49.99. The listing does not state the billing period of each subscription tier or what Plus adds beyond removing ads. Prices are regional and can change, so confirm the current price and terms in the app before paying.

4

Can I export my MyTherapy data or delete my account?

Yes. The developer added a CSV download to its web account in 2018, and the PDF report covers the doctor-facing summary. Deleting the account deletes the personal data in it, and the privacy policy says accounts are erased after three years without a login. Without an account, data cannot be restored once the phone is lost, so export before switching.

5

What are the best alternatives to MyTherapy?

Medisafe is the closest match, with refill alerts, family syncing, PDF reports and time-zone support; its US App Store listing shows Premium plans such as $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year and declares no advertising. Drugs.com Medication Guide pairs My Med List reminders, with offline access, with an interaction checker covering more than 24,000 drugs, and it shows ads. Prices vary by region.
