About GoodRx: Prescription Savings

GoodRx's coupon search is still free: you look up a prescription, compare cash prices at more than 70,000 U.S. pharmacies, including CVS, Walgreens and Walmart, and show a code at the counter. What changed in 2026 is the push toward Companion, a $14.99 monthly membership with free generics and $19 online visits. The coupon is not insurance, it cannot be combined with Medicare on the same fill, and the counter price does not always match the app.

GoodRx Review: Free Coupons Still Work, but the App Now Sells a Membership

Free coupons vs. the $14.99 Companion: where the free tier stops

Searching a drug, choosing the dose and quantity, and opening a pharmacy's coupon costs nothing. The coupon itself is a set of claim codes, BIN, PCN, Group and Member ID, that the pharmacist runs in place of your insurance, and the card on screen states that it is not insurance. That has consequences: according to the company's own Medicare guide, you choose either the coupon or your Part D plan for a given fill, and a coupon purchase does not count toward the deductible or out-of-pocket limit unless your plan agrees to credit it. Since July 2026, Play reviewers report that price lists open on Companion member prices, with the free coupon price one extra tap away for each pharmacy. Check current terms with GoodRx and your pharmacy before relying on any price.

Companion up close: 250+ free generics, $19 visits, $119.88 a year

Companion launched on May 27, 2026 at $14.99 a month. The launch release promised more than 200 common generics at no charge and hundreds more under $10; by the Family Plan launch on September 3 the free list had passed 250. Members also get $19 online visits through GoodRx Care, against $39 to $70 without a membership, plus negotiated rates on dental, vision, lab and imaging services. Paying yearly costs $119.88. The Family Plan is $24.99 a month, or $16.99 a month billed annually, and covers the primary member and up to four dependents, pets included, though only the primary member gets $19 visits. In 2026 Play reviews, several members say their drug was missing from the free list or rang up higher at the counter. Prices vary by region and can change.

What the privacy labels list, and the 90-day deletion window

Apple's privacy label lists purchase history, coarse location, browsing history and device identifiers as data used for third-party advertising. Google Play's Data safety form says name, email, phone number, location and in-app search history may be shared with other companies, while health information is optional; data is encrypted in transit. Under the retention schedule, a deletion request is completed within 90 days, advertising data is deleted within two years, and an inactive account is erased seven years after it goes dormant. Cookie Preferences, in the website footer, controls targeted-advertising cookies. On Android the app asks for precise location, camera and phone-status access. We describe these disclosures; we do not certify how the data is handled.

When the counter price differs: SingleCare, Cost Plus Drugs and RxPass

Price mismatches at the pharmacy are a recurring complaint in Play reviews from 2020 through September 2026, and the company keeps a help article for coupons accepted at the wrong price. Prices follow the most commonly filled manufacturer code, so a pharmacy stocking another may get a different price; a Patient Advocacy line can check before you pay. If a price fails, SingleCare is another free coupon service, valid at more than 35,000 pharmacies. Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs sells generics at its cost plus 15%, a pharmacy fee and shipping. Amazon's RxPass charges Prime members $5 a month for more than 50 generics, but excludes Medicaid enrollees and does not ship RxPass orders to California or Washington.

Pros

  • Free coupon prices across 70,000+ U.S. pharmacies, no membership required
  • Companion lists 250+ generics at no charge for $14.99 a month
  • Online Care visits drop from $39–$70 to $19 with Companion
  • Family Plan covers up to four dependents, pets included, for $24.99
  • Rewards points redeem from 3,000 for $5–$15 off or gift cards
  • Pet prescriptions priced at retail pharmacies; pet-only drugs ship via Allivet

Cons

  • Apple's label lists location, identifiers and purchase history used for third-party ads
  • Since mid-2026, price lists lead with Companion; free prices need extra taps
  • Counter prices can differ, and Medicare plans don't count coupon fills by default
  • Reviewers report charges after cancelling trials; prepaid annual Companion fees generally aren't refunded

Verdict

We score GoodRx 7.1 because the free coupon search across 70,000+ pharmacies still does its job, while the 2026 shift toward Companion, uneven counter prices and ad-linked privacy labels pull it down. Take it if you pay cash for generics or your plan skips a drug, and check each price against your copay. Skip it if you need every fill to count toward a Medicare deductible, or if location and purchase data used for ads is a dealbreaker; Cost Plus Drugs or RxPass may suit long-term generics better.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is GoodRx still free to use?

Yes. Searching prices and using a GoodRx coupon at the pharmacy costs nothing. Companion, the optional membership, costs $14.99 a month or $119.88 a year. Since mid-2026 the app shows Companion prices first, so tap a pharmacy to see the free coupon price. Prices vary by region and can change.

2

Can I use GoodRx with Medicare Part D?

Not on the same fill. A GoodRx coupon replaces your plan for that purchase, so you pick either the coupon or Part D. The company's Medicare guide says coupon purchases don't count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum unless your plan agrees to credit them. Ask your plan and pharmacist which price is lower before you pay.

3

Is GoodRx Companion worth $14.99 a month?

Only if your prescriptions are on its free list or you use online visits. Companion includes 250+ generics at no charge, hundreds more under $10, and $19 visits instead of $39 to $70. Compare the free coupon price for each of your medications before subscribing. Prices vary by region and can change.

4

How do I cancel GoodRx Companion?

Cancel from your goodrx.com account under Companion Membership at least one day before renewal to avoid the next charge. Prepaid annual fees are not refunded, although the cancellation policy offers a full refund within 30 days of enrolling to residents of 30 listed states, including Texas and Florida. Free coupons keep working after you cancel.

5

What are the best alternatives to GoodRx?

The main ones are SingleCare, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs and Amazon's RxPass. SingleCare is another free coupon service; Cost Plus sells generics at its cost plus 15% and fees; RxPass gives Prime members 50+ generics for $5 a month. Compare each with your copay.
