About Teladoc Health

Teladoc Health is the member app for Teladoc's virtual care: 24/7 doctor visits by phone or video, therapy, dermatology photo reviews and, through some employers and insurers, the Condition Management program that grew out of Livongo. With coverage, visits can cost $0; without it, a 24/7 Care visit is $89 and mental health starts at $119. Primary care and the connected-device programs are closed to self-pay users.

Teladoc Health Review: Doctors on Call 24/7, an App That Gets in the Way

$0 with coverage, $89 without: where self-pay care stops

The download is free, and account setup checks whether your employer or health plan covers you. Covered members can pay as little as $0 per visit. Everyone else pays $89 for a 24/7 Care visit, $89 for a dermatology photo review, $89 for a nutrition visit and from $119 for mental health. Self-pay ends there: Primary Care, the Condition Management programs, coaching, Expert Medical Opinion and Sexual Health all require coverage. Missing a visit or cancelling within 24 hours can cost up to $50, unless you have Medicare, Medicaid or federal employee coverage. Original Medicare and fee-for-service Medicaid are not accepted, though many Medicare Advantage plans are. Prices vary by plan and can change, so confirm your cost with Teladoc and your insurer before booking.

Condition Management, formerly Livongo: meters, unlimited strips, a shaky food log

Condition Management is the part of the app that stays busy between visits. It covers diabetes, hypertension, weight management and prediabetes, and enrolled members receive a welcome kit within 3 to 5 business days: a blood glucose meter with unlimited test strips and lancets, a blood pressure monitor or a smart scale. Readings reach the app over Bluetooth, which also needs location services switched on. Updates since late 2025 added Apple Health activity tracking and, in some programs, Abbott and Dexcom CGM connections and food logging by photo or barcode. The food log is where 2026 Play reviews turn sour: reviewers report no custom food entry and repeated try-again-later errors when logging a meal.

PHI after sign-in, Apple's tracking label and website cookie choices

The privacy policy effective March 9, 2026 says information in Teladoc's signed-in services is usually protected health information under HIPAA, and that data imported from Apple Health or Health Connect is not used for advertising or data mining. Apple's label is less tidy: it lists identifiers and usage data that may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, plus linked health, payment, contact and photo data. Google Play's Data safety form reports no third-party sharing but lists email used for advertising or marketing, optional precise location, health info and messages. Data is encrypted in transit. On the public website, Your Privacy Choices manages advertising cookies, the Global Privacy Control signal is honored, and deletion requests go through an online form. We describe these disclosures; we do not certify how data is handled.

Refill limits and refunds, compared with Amwell, MDLIVE and Doctor On Demand

24/7 Care is built for short-term problems. Providers can renew a 30-day supply of many prescriptions up to twice per calendar year, but not DEA-controlled drugs, hair-loss medications or emergency contraceptives, and GLP-1 drugs need Primary360 or Condition Management membership. Teladoc does not guarantee a prescription. Of the 199 newest Play reviews we read, from late August to September 2026, 50 gave one or two stars; several described a paid visit that ended with advice to go in person and no refund, and others cited failed logins or insurance the app could not find. On self-pay price the alternatives sit close: Amwell lists urgent care at $79 or less, MDLIVE at $0 to $89, and Doctor On Demand at $99 for a 15-minute medical visit. Prices vary by region and can change.

Pros

  • Visits from $0 with coverage; a self-pay 24/7 Care visit costs $89
  • Doctors available 24/7 by phone or video in the U.S. and Canada
  • Dermatology photo reviews answered within 24 hours, with seven days of follow-ups
  • Condition Management ships a meter, monitor or scale within 3–5 business days
  • Unlimited test strips and lancets for members in the diabetes program
  • Connects Abbott and Dexcom CGMs and Apple Health data in some programs

Cons

  • Without coverage, no Primary Care, Condition Management or Expert Medical Opinion
  • Recurring 2026 complaints about logins, lost insurance details and a failing food log
  • Refills capped at two 30-day renewals a year, with no controlled substances
  • Apple's label lists identifiers and usage data that may track you across apps

Verdict

We score Teladoc Health 7.1. Covered members get a lot from one app: $0 visits on many plans, 24/7 doctors, therapy, 24-hour dermatology reviews and, through some employers, meters with unlimited strips. Login, insurance and food-log complaints running through 2026 reviews pull the score down. Take it if your employer or health plan includes Teladoc. Skip it if you pay cash for one urgent visit, need a controlled-substance refill or want primary care without insurance; Amwell or MDLIVE may cost less.

Performance6.0Crashes, echoing video calls and food-log errors recur in 2026 reviews despite 13 iOS updates this year.
Privacy & permissions7.0Signed-in data is treated as PHI and Apple Health data stays out of ads, but Apple's label lists tracking identifiers.

Frequently asked questions

1

How much does Teladoc cost without insurance?

The app is free, but visits are not. Without coverage, a 24/7 Care visit costs $89, a dermatology photo review $89, a nutrition visit $89, and mental health visits start at $119. You are charged after the visit, by card, PayPal or an eligible HSA or FSA. Prices vary and can change, so check the price shown in the app before you confirm.

2

Can Teladoc refill my prescription?

Sometimes. When the provider finds it clinically appropriate, 24/7 Care can renew a 30-day supply of many medications up to twice per calendar year. DEA-controlled substances, hair-loss medications and emergency contraceptives are excluded, and GLP-1 drugs are only considered for established Primary360 or Condition Management members. Teladoc does not guarantee any prescription; the provider makes that decision.

3

Does Teladoc accept Medicare?

Partly. Teladoc works with many Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care plans but does not accept original Medicare or fee-for-service Medicaid. Covered visits can cost as little as $0; add your plan under Account, then Billing and coverage, to see your price. Confirm your benefits with your insurer.

4

How do I cancel a Teladoc visit or program?

Visits are paid one at a time, so there is usually no plan to cancel; Back and Joint Care Therapy, $49 a month without insurance, is the exception. Scheduled visits are cancelled from Upcoming Visit on the home screen; within 24 hours that may cost up to $50, while provider cancellations are free. Condition Management can be cancelled any time through member support at 800-835-2362.

5

Is Teladoc better than Amwell or MDLIVE?

On self-pay price they are close: Amwell lists urgent care at $79 or less, MDLIVE at $0 to $89, Teladoc at $89, and Doctor On Demand at $99 for 15 minutes. Its edge is breadth for covered members, including Primary360 and Condition Management devices. Paying cash for one quick visit? Compare current prices first; they vary and change.
