Service Fee and Upfront Pricing: What the Search Price Leaves Out

The traveler service fee is a percentage of the reservation total before taxes and refundable fees, and the rate varies with the booking amount. Hosts cannot waive it. In an FAQ dated October 1, 2026, the company said it does not disclose the range and prices the fee dynamically, adding that it should typically drop once new host commissions start on October 29, 2026. Search results, the map and listing pages already include the service fee and every mandatory host fee; taxes are added at checkout. Still, four 2026 reviews among the 294 English Play reviews we read say the "all fees included" figure grew after tapping Request to book. Fees vary by region and may change.

VrboCare: Four Protected Incidents and a 90-Day Rebooking Window

In October 2025 the Book with Confidence Guarantee was renamed VrboCare; it applies at no charge to every rental paid through the app's checkout. Its terms name four protected incidents: payment fraud, a host who cancels or denies entry, material defects or misrepresentation such as fewer bedrooms than listed, and a deposit wrongly withheld. Rebooking help, once limited to stays within 30 days, now covers stays within 90 days, but cancellations more than 90 days before arrival get no financial help. Excluded: hotel and multi-unit inventory, cash or bank transfers sent to a host, airfare, meals and routine cleanliness complaints. If asked, you must first seek recovery from the host or card issuer.

Seven Cancellation Policies, From Day-before to No Refund

Refunds follow whichever of seven policies the host picked. Day-before refunds in full until 24 hours before check-in, Lenient until 5 days. Relaxed pays 100% until 14 days out and 50% from 7 to 14 days; Moderate moves those marks to 30 and 14-30 days, Firm to 60 and 30-60 days. Strict refunds fully only until 60 days out, and No refund means exactly that. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. in the property's time zone, and the check-in date's policy covers the whole stay. California rentals add 24 hours of free cancellation after booking, unless you book within 72 hours of arrival. Hosts may split payment into up to three installments; later ones are not charged automatically.

One Key Rewards and Expedia Group Data: What You Trade

Creating an account enrolls you in One Key, the US-only loyalty program shared with Expedia and Hotels.com. Under terms effective July 28, 2026, the Vrbo section lists base OneKeyCash only for Silver (1%) and Gold or Platinum (2%) members, while Expedia pays Blue members 1%. Silver takes 5 Trip Elements in a calendar year; rental OneKeyCash posts up to 35 days after the stay and lapses after 18 months without activity. One login syncs your profile across Expedia Group brands, and the privacy statement allows targeted ads tied to identifiers such as a device advertising ID. Google Play's Data safety form lists installed apps, web browsing history and approximate location among collected data.
