Shop, Shopify's buyer app, is the best shopping app on our scores at 8.1 — it tracks parcels from every store on the platform in one list, remembers your checkout, and sells nothing and shows no advertising while doing it. The catch is that it only sees Shopify stores. Six more follow, from Vinted's no-seller-fee marketplace to Whatnot's live auctions, and what separates them is not the shopping but the fees and the data: buyer fees of 5% plus a fixed amount on two of them, sponsored listings on three, and privacy marks from 6.5 down to 5.0. Each was installed, scored on five criteria and reviewed on this site, with fees as of September 2026.

How we ranked them

Each app has a full review with five sub-scores — core function, ease of use, monetisation, performance, and privacy and permissions — and the number at the head of each entry is the weighted result. Every app here is free to install, so the monetisation mark is about what surrounds the shopping: buyer and seller fees, sponsored listings inside results, and whether a membership is pushed.

We also read every app's privacy label, and this is the category where it matters most: shopping apps handle addresses and payment details, and four of the seven share personal or financial information with third parties.

1. Shop — every Shopify parcel in one list, nothing sold to you

Shop scores 8.1 with an 8.5 for monetisation: no advertising badge, no in-app purchases, no subscription — the merchants pay Shopify, not you. Parcels from any store built on the platform appear in one list with delivery windows to the hour, and saved payment and address details make checkout a single tap. It is a light install, 57 MB on Android, and holds 4.8 stars across 7.1 million App Store ratings.

The limit is structural: it only covers Shopify merchants, so anyone who shops mainly on marketplaces will open it once. Six data categories are collected, with personal information shared onward.

Good for: anyone who buys from independent online shops. Not for: anyone whose shopping is Amazon and Walmart.

2. Vinted — sellers pay nothing, buyers pay 5% plus $0.70

Vinted scores 7.9. Listing secondhand clothes is free, the sell form is the shortest of any marketplace here — photos, title, category, up to 20 pictures — and the buyer prints the shipping label from the app. The platform's cut is a Buyer Protection fee of 5% plus $0.70, shown on the item page before purchase, and it holds 4.8 stars across 235,000 App Store ratings.

The 5.5 for privacy is eight collected categories with five shared for advertising, and sponsored listings appear inside the browse feed. Protection is void if you arrange a sale privately.

Good for: clearing a wardrobe without fees. Not for: buying a $200 coat without reading the total first.

3. Walmart — a store companion more than a shopping site

Walmart scores 7.6. The app switches to store mode when you walk into a branch: an aisle map, Scan & Go checkout that skips the queue, price checks, fuel payment, and manufacturer offers claimed in-app and applied at the till. Walmart+ is $98 a year and bundles free delivery with Peacock or Paramount+. It holds 4.8 stars across 18.3 million App Store ratings.

It is one of the heaviest shopping installs, 495 MB on iPhone, sponsored products sit inside search results without much distinction, and seven data categories are collected with identifiers shared onward.

Good for: the weekly shop in a physical Walmart. Not for: anyone who never sets foot in one.

4. Depop — no selling fees, and AI writes the listing

Depop also scores 7.6. Selling costs nothing in the US, UK and Australia, the listing tool drafts a description from the photos, and a Shop Stats screen shows what paid boosting actually delivered — the best-presented resale app here, rated 4.8 on both stores.

Read past the headline: payment processing and boosting come out of the same sale, and buyers pay a marketplace fee of up to 5% plus $1 at checkout. Eight data categories are collected, five shared onward, messages among them.

Good for: curated secondhand fashion with the least effort per listing. Not for: anyone who thinks no selling fees means no fees.

5. Temu — genuinely cheap, and honest that prices move

Temu scores 7.5 for a marketplace of very cheap goods shipped from Chinese sellers, listed with star ratings and a count of how many have sold — the sold counts are what make it navigable. It is the lightest shopping install here, 70 MB on iPhone, with no advertising badge and no in-app purchases, and its own listing warns that prices fluctuate by time and region.

Delivery comes from another continent, quality varies far more than the four-star averages suggest, countdown discounts pressure the buyer, and seven data categories are collected with identifiers shared onward.

Good for: low-stakes homeware and accessories where a week's wait is fine. Not for: anything that matters.

6. Amazon — the most capable shop, with the most attached to it

Amazon Shopping scores 7.5 with a 9.0 for core function, the highest here: search, ordering, tracking and returns at a scale nothing else matches, plus Amazon Lens, which identifies a product from its packaging and removes the worst step in reordering. Groceries, pharmacy, in-store codes and Alexa share the same app.

It ranks sixth on everything around the shop: sponsored results throughout, a crowded interface, Prime at $14.99 a month or $139 a year behind it, and the lowest privacy mark on the list, 5.0 — eleven collected categories with six shared onward, financial information included.

Good for: anyone who already has Prime. Not for: anyone counting what the app collects.

7. Whatnot — live auctions for collectors

Whatnot scores 7.4. Sellers broadcast live, hold up sneakers, trading cards, plants or comics one at a time, and viewers bid against a countdown in the chat; buyers pay no platform fee and are covered if a parcel goes wrong. Live video, bidding and checkout hold together without the stream stuttering.

Sellers pay up to 8% plus payment processing, the pace is designed to make you decide quickly, ten data categories are collected with seven shared onward including financial information, and the app is only worth opening when shows are running.

Good for: collectors who enjoy a market stall. Not for: anyone who buys on reflection.

Bottom line

Shop wins because it does the one thing shopping apps rarely do — help you without selling to you — and loses only if your shops are not on Shopify. Below it the choice is by job: Vinted or Depop to sell clothes, Walmart to shop in a Walmart, Temu for things that do not matter, Amazon for things that do, Whatnot for the thrill. Whatever you pick, look at the fee line before the price and the privacy label before the fee: this is the category where an app knowing your address and card is the product.
