About Bubble Word Jam

Bubble Word Jam, published by Tripledot-owned Lion Studios, turns category sorting into a merging puzzle: drag word bubbles together until a board's eight themes are complete, within a fixed number of moves. Fragments, picture bubbles and padlocked chains vary later levels. The catch arrives around level 30, when forced ads begin, and the $9.99 No Ads Bundle has not reliably followed buyers to new phones.

Bubble Word Jam Review: Clever Category Merging, Taxed by Ads After Level 30

Eight Categories per Board, and Every Merge Costs a Move

Lion Studios, which Tripledot Studios bought from AppLovin in June 2025, has listed the game on Google Play since September 2025 and on the App Store since February 2026. Each level scatters word bubbles, and you drag related ones together until the bar reads 8 of 8, with 15 to 36 moves in the store screenshots. Finished sets hold four words, such as OUNCE, KILOGRAM, GRAM and POUND, and some boards add a theme bubble like INSECTS. Play reviewers report that a wrong merge still spends a move; at zero, an ad buys five more, or the App Store sells a $4.99 Revive Offer.

Fragments, Picture Bubbles and Chain Boards Against Vague Categories

Beyond plain words, fragments such as APRI and COT only make sense joined, pictures like a rose count as words, and since a summer 2026 update some boards carry a padlocked chain you cannot match across. Reviewers say those boards frequently leave the only pairs on opposite sides, so the Magnet booster, which pulls matches together, is often the only way through; the Magnifying Glass reveals a link and Add Bubble frees space. Editing draws the most complaints: an archer filed under Weapons, Shaq and O'Neal as two Basketball Players, references a UK player found heavily American, and Spring translated as a water source in German.

Ads From Around Level 30, and a $9.99 No Ads Bundle

Early levels show a banner and opt-in videos only. Play reviewers place the first forced ads between levels 30 and 46, after which some see one after every level, and September 2026 reviews describe ads that will not close, jump to the Play Store or play audio mid-puzzle; closing the app restarts the board. The US App Store lists the No Ads Bundle and a Battle Pass at $9.99 each, coin packs from $1.99 to $14.99 and bundles up to $29.99; Google Play items run $0.99 to $99.99. Reviewers put a continue at 900 coins against about 20 per win. Lion's terms make sales final and let prices differ between players. Prices are regional and may change.

Everyone, 13+ or 16+: Three Age Labels and an Ad-Data Trail

Google Play rates the game Everyone, Apple says 13+ for infrequent cartoon and realistic violence and weapons, and Lion Studios' terms require players to be 16 or older. Apple's privacy label lists purchases, coarse location, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as used to track you, and Google Play's Data safety section shows purchase history, approximate location, device IDs and in-app actions shared for advertising. Lion's privacy notice, updated September 22, 2026, says it sold or shared such data with ad partners over the prior 12 months. Deletion requests go by email, and reviewers found no way to move progress or purchases to another device.

Pros

  • Eight-category boards mix word fragments, picture bubbles and padlocked chains
  • Thousands of levels; one reviewer had reached level 2,465 by September 2026
  • Google Play tags it Offline, so levels run without Wi-Fi
  • Roughly the first 30 levels show only a banner and opt-in videos
  • Magnifying Glass, Magnet and Add Bubble boosters rescue stuck boards
  • Three updates in September 2026, plus events such as Spooky Halloween Jam

Cons

  • Forced ads from around level 30, some unclosable and restarting the board
  • A wrong merge still costs a move, and many categories are ambiguous
  • Several buyers lost the $9.99 ad removal on a new phone; sales are final
  • Lion's terms set a 16+ minimum, though Google Play rates it Everyone

Verdict

The 6.4 rewards an inventive category puzzle held back by its ad economy. Merging bubbles into eight themes, with fragments and chain boards, plays differently from Connections in NYT Games, which sorts 16 words into four groups once a day. Take it if you like long runs of association puzzles and accept frequent ads or the $9.99 fix. Skip it if vague categories irritate you, if you change phones often, or for anyone under 16, the minimum age in Lion's terms.

Gameplay7.0Merging words into eight themes feels fresh, but reviewers cite loose sets like an archer under Weapons.
Controls6.5Drag-to-merge is simple and long-press enlarges text, yet lagging merges cost moves and boards restart after ads.
Replay value8.0Thousands of levels, a daily Calendar and tournaments; one reviewer had passed level 2,465.
Graphics & sound7.0Bright underwater bubbles and picture tiles, though words are small and spring 2026 builds pixelated.
Monetisation4.5Forced ads from around level 30, 900-coin continues, and a $9.99 ad removal buyers lost on new phones.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Bubble Word Jam offline?

Yes. Google Play tags the game Offline, and a July 2026 Play reviewer said it ran with no Wi-Fi at all. Rewards tied to videos, such as five extra moves, need an ad to load, so expect fewer rescues on a flight. Wordscapes, from fellow Tripledot studio PeopleFun, carries the same Offline tag.

2

How much does it cost to remove ads in Bubble Word Jam?

$9.99 for the No Ads Bundle on the US App Store, which also sells a $9.99 Battle Pass and coin packs from $1.99 to $14.99. Play buyers describe a one-time payment, yet several lost it after switching phones and some still saw ads; Lion's terms make all sales final. Prices vary by region.

3

What phones can run Bubble Word Jam?

Android 7.0 or later, or iOS and iPadOS 15.0 or later; Apple also lists M1 Macs and Apple Vision Pro, and Google Play offers a Windows version. Expect roughly 250 MB on Android and 350 MB on iPhone. Age labels differ: Everyone on Google Play, 13+ on the App Store, 16+ in Lion's terms.

4

Can you play Bubble Word Jam with friends?

Not head to head: Google Play tags it Single player. Reviewers mention tournaments where results compete with other players for coins, but progress stays on one device with no login to move it. For turn-based word matches with friends, Words With Friends plays on a 15-by-15 board at each player's pace.

5

How many levels does Bubble Word Jam have?

Thousands, by Lion's count; one Play reviewer was on level 2,465 in September 2026. Store screenshots show 15 to 36 moves per board, and an interrupted level restarts from scratch, so finish one before putting the phone down. Forced ads start around level 30, and later chain boards often need a Magnet.
