About Hypnospace Outlaw

Hypnospace Outlaw is Tendershoot's 1999 internet simulator — you are a volunteer Enforcer patrolling a GeoCities-style web of teen pages, church pages and Hot Dad's music for copyright infringement and bullying, while adware and a corporate story unfold on your HypnOS desktop — on iOS and Android since July 2026, published by No More Robots. The opening is free with no ads; the full game is a one-time $4.99. It rates 4.9 on the App Store from fans buying it for the third time; the port's flaw is a desktop whose buttons are small on a phone.

Crawl the Web, Report the Wrongdoers, Read Everything

The game is a fake operating system and a fake internet. HypnOS boots on your screen with a desktop you can skin, a mail client and a browser; the Hypnospace Patrol Department sends cases — copyright infringement, harassment, illegal content — and you search the zones of Hypnospace, for the offending pages and flag them for HypnoCoins. The pages are the point: hundreds of hand-built 1999-style sites with GIFs, MIDI songs, guestbooks and the people behind them, whose stories — and a corporation's — turn into something with intrigue and, by an August 10, 2026 App Store review's word, tears. Adware and viruses get in the way, and wiggling the pointer makes pages load faster. An August 2 Play five-star with 12 votes calls it a complete nostalgia bomb, recognising everyone from the early web; a July 31 App Store review places it with Her Story as a detective game. Hot Dad's songs get their own mentions.

The Port: Smooth, Cloud-Saved, and Fiddly at Phone Size

The reviews call the port very good and then describe the one problem. An August 10 five-star says the desktop's buttons are very small on an iPhone and the pointer jumps to wherever you touch, and asks for better mouse controls; the game is happier on an iPad. The most-voted Play review, a July 23 five-star with 16 votes, found no bugs in the free portion; a July 24 reviewer reports no lag. The August 25–29 update on both stores fixed cloud-save stability, distorted visuals on Pixel 10s, sequenced-music playback, possible overheating and wiggly effects, and added frame-rate options and a mute for Hypii, the desktop pet. A July 25 reviewer from China notes there is no Chinese version and the dense, stylised text is hard for non-native readers.

The iOS build is 985 MB and asks for iOS 18.1 or later, on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision; Android needs 10, in English only, rated Teen for the web's crude humour and 13+. Two months in it shows 50,000-plus installs and 488 reviews at 4.0 on Play — a lower average than the App Store's 4.9 from 69, on smaller screens — and a July 29 App Store reviewer buying the game for the third time, for a fourth playthrough. A 7.6: one of the strangest and warmest detective games of the last decade, brought to phones for $4.99 with no ads and no data, and slightly too small for a phone screen. Take it on an iPad without a second thought, and on an iPhone if you can live with tiny buttons and a jumping pointer. Skip it if you want action, if you cannot read dense English at speed, or if you never once wiggled a mouse to make a page load faster and would not get the joke.
