About Freeletics: Workouts & Fitness

Freeletics is an AI-coached workout app that builds a Training Journey in bodyweight, running or weights, then reshapes each session around your equipment, time and soreness. Signing up is free, but without a Coach subscription you get only signature God Workouts, warm-ups, a limited exercise set and runs. Coach terms last 3, 6 or 12 months and start at $34.99 on the US App Store. It needs an account and, for adapting sessions, a connection.

Freeletics Review: Free to Start, Paid to Be Coached

Free tier: God Workouts and runs, with the Coach locked

The download is free, but an account comes first: you register, confirm your email and answer onboarding questions before you reach the workouts. Without a subscription you get warm-ups and cool-downs, the signature God Workouts, a limited set of single exercises and runs. The Coach, meaning the structured plan plus the full workout, exercise and run library, is the paid part. The two store listings disagree on what free contains: the App Store says 34 bodyweight HIIT workouts and 100+ exercises, Google Play says 20 workouts and 25 exercises. A run of recent one-star Play reviews is about exactly this gap. Play also shows a Contains ads badge, although the developer's replies to reviewers call the free app ad-free.

Adapt session: up to 8 ways to rewrite today's workout

Each plan is a Training Journey from the Bodyweight, Running or Weights families, sized in sessions: 15 min Fitness has 24, Cardio Burn 48, Run Further 42 and Hybrid Strength 48. You pick 2 to 5 training days a week, and a missed session slides to the next day. The feature that earns the price is Adapt session, at the bottom of every Coach workout. Depending on the Journey it offers a time cap, no equipment, no space, no run, quiet mode, a different session, up to two body areas to avoid, and an easier or harder version. Quiet mode drops noisy moves such as jumps. All of it needs an active internet connection, and reviewers describe loading-screen freezes when the signal is weak.

Pricing from $34.99 a term, and how to exit it

On the US App Store, Training Coach is listed at $34.99, $59.99 and $79.99, and the Training & Nutrition bundle at $49.99, $89.99 and $114.99, across 3-, 6- and 12-month terms. Prices are regional and can change. Renewals are automatic, and a plan can be canceled only on the platform that sold it: Apple, Google Play or the website. Refunds cover the first 14 days after the initial purchase, and the help center says the guarantee does not extend to renewals. Deleting the account does not cancel a store renewal. Lifetime Access exists, but only on the website, tied to one account and unavailable in eight countries, including India and Turkey. Recent Play reviews often cite renewals charged without a reminder.

Pros

  • Adapt session offers up to 8 changes, including a time cap and quiet mode
  • Bodyweight, running and weights Journeys run from 24 to 48 sessions
  • Each weight interval opens with 3 to 5 warm-up sets of rising load
  • Daily Athlete Score tracks consistency, skill, stamina, speed and strength over three months
  • Base counts any 17-minute activity synced through Apple Health, Health Connect or Strava

Cons

  • Personalized plans and most workouts sit behind a 3-, 6- or 12-month subscription
  • Adapting a session needs internet, and reviewers report freezes when the connection drops
  • Strength variety is thin: reviewers miss cable rows and leg curls
  • App Store label lists purchases, location, contact info and usage data used for tracking

Verdict

The score rewards a coach that reshapes sessions through Adapt session and three Journey families, and docks it for a thin free tier, term-based billing with a 14-day refund window, a connection requirement and light strength variety. Take it if you train at home or while traveling, want structure without picking exercises, and can commit to a 3-, 6- or 12-month term. Skip it if you want a fully free plan, where Nike Training Club fits, or heavy gym lifting, where Fitbod does.

Core function8.5Three Journey families and up to 8 Adapt options make the plan adaptive, though strength variety is thinner.
Ease of use7.5An account and onboarding questions come first, but Adapt session sits at the bottom of every Coach workout.
Monetisation5.5Free tier is signature workouts only, Coach terms start at $34.99, and refunds cover just the first 14 days.
Performance6.5Adapting needs a connection, and reviewers report loading-screen freezes, GPS distance errors and a cramped tablet landscape layout.
Privacy & permissions6.0App Store label lists location, contact info and usage data used for tracking; Play confirms encryption in transit and deletion on request.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Freeletics really free?

Only the download and a small tier are free. Without a subscription you get warm-ups, cool-downs, signature God Workouts, a limited set of single exercises and runs, but not the personalized Coach plan. The App Store listing counts 34 free bodyweight HIIT workouts, while Google Play counts 20. An account is required before you start, and reviewers say setup ends at a subscription screen.

2

Can Freeletics help you build muscle, or only lose weight?

It can do both, within limits. Weights Journeys such as Dumbbell Strength, Kettlebell Fundamentals, Barbell Gain and Hybrid Strength run 42 to 48 sessions and center on compound lifts like squats, deadlifts and rows. Reviewers who lift say variety is thin, missing cable rows and leg curls, and weight can be lowered but not raised through in-workout feedback.

3

How much does Freeletics cost?

On the US App Store, Training Coach is $34.99, $59.99 or $79.99 and the Training & Nutrition bundle is $49.99, $89.99 or $114.99, for 3-, 6- or 12-month terms. Prices are regional and can change. A website-only Lifetime Access option exists, and the first 14 days after the initial purchase are refundable.

4

How do I cancel Freeletics and get a refund?

Cancel on the platform that sold the plan: Apple, Google Play or the Freeletics website. Canceling stops renewal but keeps access until the period ends. Refunds cover only the first 14 days after the initial purchase, not renewals, and store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription, so cancel first.

5

What are the best alternatives to Freeletics?

For gym lifting, Fitbod builds AI-planned strength sessions from a library its App Store listing puts above 1000 exercises. Nike Training Club offers trainer-led classes with free access for Nike Members, per its App Store listing. Planet Fitness has guided workouts, but its app is built around a gym membership. Pick Freeletics when you want one plan that rewrites itself around your day.
