About Tixr - Event Tickets

Tixr sells primary tickets on behalf of festivals, comedy clubs, venues and, since the 2026 season, MLS clubs such as the San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo. The Santa Monica company claims more than 700 partners in 60 countries. Its app holds rotating QR and NFC wallet tickets, free transfers, a pre-authorized waitlist and organizer-run resale. The catch: refunds, fees and resale rules are set by each organizer, and most sales are final.

Tixr Review: Official Tickets, Organizer Rules and a 2.5 Android Rating

Refunds: Organizer Rules, Tixr Credits and a Chargeback Trap

The purchase policy calls every sale final and leaves refunds to the event organizer's discretion; the help center adds that for most events, tickets cannot be refunded, exchanged or modified. Where an organizer allows a refund, only the original buyer can request it, and the money returns to the original card, usually within 5–10 business days. Some organizers offer Return for Credit instead: the balance lands instantly but works only with that same organizer and carries an expiry date. A canceled or rescheduled event should bring an email within 48 hours of the announcement. Do not dispute the charge with your bank: that voids every ticket in the order and freezes the account permanently, even if the bank rules against you.

Rotating QR Codes and NFC Wallet Tickets: Why Screenshots Fail

Each organizer picks the delivery method. Digital Code Only tickets show a QR code that refreshes inside the app, so a screenshot will not scan. Contactless tickets use NFC and must be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet one ticket at a time; once added, they scan without Wi-Fi, and a ticket opened once while online stays viewable offline in the app. When the organizer withholds a PDF, the app or a wallet pass is the only way in, and many of the one-star Google Play reviews we read objected to installing the app and creating an account just to get through the gate. Android sign-in is email or Google only, with no Apple option; Facebook works only on the website.

Order Protection, Payment Plans and Resale: What Each Costs

There is no fan-facing fee table: the help center says service and delivery fees are set by the organizer, and receipts itemize them. Order Protection is an optional add-on priced as a percentage of the tickets and run by Teak, the trading name of Protecht. It pays out for listed reasons such as illness or travel disruption, never for canceled or postponed events, and can be dropped within 14 days of purchase. Payment plans retry a declined card after 5 and 10 days, and canceling a plan forfeits everything already paid. Resale appears only where the organizer enables it, sometimes with price caps or floors, and sellers are paid 3–5 business days after the event ends. Fees and terms vary by event.

2.5 on Google Play, 4.8 on the App Store: Where It Falls Short

Google Play shows 2.5 from 173 reviews, against 4.8 from about 12,800 App Store ratings. We read all 90 English Play reviews, posted between August 2024 and September 2026: 68 gave one star, most often for failed logins, Google sign-in that never finishes, transfers that did not appear and being pushed into the app. In November 2025 an Android build shipped with the Chucker debugging tool visible; the developer says a fix went out within 24 hours. The app is English-only, and the iOS version is built for iPhone only. Apple's privacy label lists browsing history and usage data as used to track you, and the website's state privacy notice says identifiers and commercial activity were sold or shared with advertising partners in the past 12 months.

Pros

  • Waitlist pre-authorizes your card and charges only if the whole order fills
  • Free ticket transfers by email, cancellable any time before the recipient accepts
  • NFC tickets in Apple or Google Wallet scan at the gate without Wi-Fi
  • Resale runs on the official event page, where organizers can cap prices
  • No in-app ads, and primary tickets are sold on the organizer's behalf

Cons

  • Refunds depend on each organizer, and most events treat sales as final
  • Rated 2.5 on Google Play; 68 of 90 English reviews give one star
  • Disputing a charge voids the tickets and freezes your account permanently
  • Help pages route resale payout setup through the website, not the app

Verdict

We scored it 6.4. A waitlist that charges only when the full order fills, free email transfers, organizer-run resale and NFC wallet tickets earn the score; a 2.5 Google Play rating, organizer-dependent refunds and a chargeback rule that freezes accounts pull it down. Install it if your festival, comedy club or MLS team sells through it. Look elsewhere for guaranteed refunds or printable PDF tickets, since organizers decide both.

Ease of use6.0Rules change from event to event, Android sign-in is limited to email or Google, and payout setup lives on the website.

Performance5.068 of 90 English Google Play reviews give one star, most often over logins, while iPhone ratings average 4.8.
Privacy & permissions6.0Apple's label lists tracking through browsing history and usage data; the privacy notice discloses sharing with advertising partners.

Frequently asked questions

1

Does Tixr charge fees?

Yes, but each event sets its own. The help center says organizers control ticket prices plus service and delivery fees, and receipts itemize them. The app is free and shows no ads; Order Protection and upgrade exchange fees are optional extras. Fees vary by event and may change.

2

How do I transfer Tixr tickets to someone else?

In Wallet, open the event, tap Transfer, pick the tickets and enter the recipient's email. Transfers are free where the organizer allows them. The recipient must accept under that same email; offers never expire and can be canceled until accepted. Transfers lock once the event starts.

3

How much does Tixr Order Protection cost, and what does it cover?

It is priced as a percentage of the tickets and itemized at checkout; no fixed rate is published. Teak reviews claims for reasons such as illness, injury, travel disruption or family emergencies, but not for canceled or postponed events. You can cancel the coverage within 14 days of purchase, before the event.

4

Can I get a refund on Tixr tickets?

Only if the organizer allows it; the purchase policy treats sales as final. Check the Terms at the bottom of the event page and email the organizer. Otherwise try Return for Credit, a transfer or the event's resale market, where enabled. Approved refunds reach the original card in 5–10 business days.

5

Is Tixr better than Ticketmaster or DICE?

It sells official tickets on organizers' behalf, so for events listed on it, that is the face-value source. On Google Play, Ticketmaster also rates 2.5, from 204,000 reviews; DICE rates 4.7 from 95,000 and advertises upfront full prices plus a face-value wait list, much like the pre-authorized waitlist here.
