Astro Party EX Review: Four Players, One Phone, Ships That Only Turn Right

Turn Right, Fire, Laugh: The Couch Shooter on One Screen

The design is the original's, redrawn: each player gets a corner of the screen and two buttons — one turns the ship, always to the right, the other fires or boosts — and up to four of you dogfight over a single device, blasting ships, running over ejected pilots, and watching the level crumble under fire. The joke is the turning: with no left turn, every dodge is a loop and every lunge a commitment. EX rebuilds it with new pixel art and music, new map layouts, destructible terrain, and a pilot-select screen for four named fliers. A January 27, 2026 App Store five-star compares it to Astro Duel 2 on mobile; a February 2 five-star had a crash at launch, saw the developer fix it within days, and planned a weekend of it with a son. The one dissent, a February 19 three-star, finds the default and boost speeds sluggish next to the original and misses the super dash.

A 7.3: a purpose-built couch shooter that fits four players on one phone and makes a joke of its own controls, priced fairly and, as far as 21 ratings can tell, well received. Take it if you have friends or kids in the same room and an iPad on the table. Skip it if you play alone, if you are on Android, or if you loved the original's speed — the sequel is slower and the super dash is gone.
