About League of Legends: Wild Rift

Wild Rift is League of Legends rebuilt for touch: the same three lanes and jungle, the same champions retuned, a virtual stick on the left and four ability buttons on the right. The port is technically strong and its Google Play average is 3.3 from 2.45 million reviews — the lowest score of any product in this catalogue.

Wild Rift Review: 3.3 on Play, 4.2 on the App Store

Five Against Five, Rebuilt for Thumbs

Three lanes, a jungle between them, turrets to break and a nexus to destroy — the structure survives the move to a phone intact. Movement sits on a left stick, abilities become four buttons under the right thumb with summoner spells either side, and the minimap holds the corner. Champions carry their identities across: Ahri, Lux, Jinx and Lee Sin play recognisably as themselves rather than as simplified copies. What matters most is that the skill floor transferred too — last-hitting, ability combinations and objective timing still decide games, and matches are built to end sooner than a desktop one.

The Rating Gap Is the Story

3.3 stars from 2.45 million Google Play reviews against 4.2 from 64,000 on the App Store: nearly a full point apart, and the lowest Play average anywhere in this catalogue. Two things are visible from outside the numbers. The Android audience is vastly larger — 50 million installs against a fortieth of the review count on Apple — and it includes a wide spread of hardware the game strains. Reviews at that volume also become a channel for complaints about balance, matchmaking and regional support rather than a verdict on whether the game works.

Wild Cores, Prime and No Advertising

Currency runs from 425 units at $4.99 to 10,000 at $99.99, with subscriptions at $4.99 and $34.99 beside them. Apple rates the game 13+, listing frequent fantasy violence and naming loot boxes and chat among the contents, on a 1.1 GB install. Nothing sold alters a champion's statistics — the money buys skins and cosmetics, so a paying player meets a free one on equal terms, which is rarer in this category than it should be. Google Play shows no advertising badge either, making this the least intrusive of the four large competitive games here.

Pros

  • The desktop game's depth survives on a touchscreen
  • Champions play as themselves, not simplified copies
  • Purchases are cosmetic and change no statistics
  • No advertising badge on the Play listing
  • A 1.1 GB install, light for a game this detailed

Cons

  • Rated 3.3 on Play, the lowest score in this catalogue
  • Loot boxes are listed among the contents
  • Currency packs reach $99.99 a purchase
  • A match cannot be paused once it has started

Verdict

The most serious competitive game on a phone: real strategy, faithful champions, cosmetic-only spending and no adverts. The touch controls are the honest limitation, and the 3.3 Play average is a warning worth reading — at that volume it reflects the state of the community and the hardware spread as much as the code. Excellent if you want depth and can give a match your full attention.

Gameplay8.5A genuine five-a-side strategy game, not a simplified arena brawler.
Controls7.0Precise aiming through a stick and four buttons remains the weak link.
Replay value8.0Ranked seasons and a champion roster that keeps expanding with patches.
Graphics & sound8.5Detailed champion models and effects on a modest 1.1 GB install.
Monetisation7.5Cosmetic-only spending, though loot boxes and $99.99 packs are present.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can it be played offline?

No. Every match is five players against five on a live server, and even practice modes run online. A dropped connection mid-match leaves your team a player short, which is why the game penalises repeated disconnections in ranked play.

2

What do purchases buy?

Currency for skins and cosmetics, sold from $4.99 for 425 units to $99.99 for 10,000, plus two subscription tiers at $4.99 and $34.99. None of it changes damage, health or cooldowns, so spending affects how a champion looks rather than how the match goes.

3

What does it need to run?

1.1 GB and iOS 15 or later on iPhone — modest for the visual detail on screen. The demand is on the processor rather than storage: five-a-side team fights with layered effects are where a cheaper Android phone starts dropping frames.

4

Can you play with friends?

Yes, and it is built for it: parties of two to five queue together into normal or ranked matches with voice chat. Ranked queues restrict which rank combinations can play together, so a wide skill gap inside a group limits which modes are available.

5

How long does a match take?

Long enough that you should not start one in a queue for coffee. Matches are designed to finish faster than the desktop game, but there is no pause, and leaving early hurts both your team and your account standing — this is a game that needs an uninterrupted block.
