About Ludo Star

Ludo STAR is Gameberry Labs' online ludo, out since 2017 from a Bengaluru studio: one-on-one and four-player tables in Classic, Arrow and Blitz variants, Team Up pairs, private tables for friends and Clubs with voice rooms. Its defining twist is Undo, a gem-paid re-roll that lets spending bend the dice. Matches are played for virtual coins that, under Gameberry's terms, have no cash value.

Ludo STAR Review: Classic Ludo, Until Gems Buy a Second Roll

Classic, Arrow and Blitz Tables, and the Coins on Them

Gameberry's rule list includes doubled-up pieces and a requirement to capture a rival token before entering home, and the blockade rule has since been dropped, a change the developer acknowledged in Play replies in June 2026. Matches come as one-on-one, four-player or Team Up pairs, in Classic, Arrow and Blitz variants, with private tables for invited friends and an offline mode. Online tables are played for gold coins, and the league leaderboard in the store screenshots ranks players by coins earned. Matchmaking is the weak spot: one September reviewer with 250,000 coins entered a 50,000-coin table and drew an opponent holding over 100 million. Those coins are virtual, and Gameberry's terms say they represent no real currency and cannot be sold for money.

Undo and the 52-Gem Daily Ceiling

Spending gems cancels a roll and throws again, so a needed six can be bought rather than waited for. Free gems come from Lucky Dice that friends send each other and from daily cards; in replies to Play reviews in 2026, the developer said every player can now collect up to 52 free gems a day and that rolling 666 pays 2,000. Collecting often means waiting out a timer or watching an ad. Spanish, Arabic and English reviews from this year repeat the same charge, that gem spenders win. Gameberry answers each of them identically: rolls are random between one and six, and there are no bots.

From $0.49 to $999.99, With Ads Between Games

Google Play lists in-app items from $0.49 to $999.99 each. On the App Store, the most popular packs run from a $0.99 starter gem pack to 3,000 gems for $4.99 and a large pack at $9.99, beside gold and hearts packs (US prices; they vary by region and can change). The terms make every purchase final and non-refundable, unused items included. Ads are served through Google AdMob, and recent reviews describe long, back-to-back videos, including inside gem collection. Filings reported by Entrackr put in-app sales at 84% of Gameberry's revenue in the year to March 2025. Ludo King also runs ads, with items capped at $369.09, while Moonfrog's Ludo Club carries no Contains ads label on Google Play.

Clubs, Voice Rooms and the 18+ Audio Rule

Clubs are the social layer: named group rooms with voice notes, live audio and animated gifts such as a falcon, a rose or a phoenix. Gameberry's Audio Chat Policy, updated in June 2026, bars under-18s from audio chat, says unreported audio is not recorded, and keeps reported incidents for at least 180 days; moderators can mute speakers, end rooms and suspend accounts, and players file reports through in-game support. In-match text chat reaches strangers, and a July reviewer described abuse aimed at their country after winning. Both stores rate the game for all ages, yet the terms require players to be at least 13 with a guardian's consent. Google Play's data-safety label adds that data is not encrypted in transit and that approximate location is shared for advertising.

Pros

  • Classic, Arrow and Blitz variants, plus Team Up pairs and private tables
  • Audio chat restricted to adults under Gameberry's June 2026 policy
  • New Season Pass track every six weeks, with themed dice and cosmetics
  • Hundreds of collectible dice, with dice parts swapped between players
  • Runs on Android 7.0 and iOS 13, and on Apple M1 Macs

Cons

  • Gem-bought Undo re-rolls let spenders override the dice in coin matches
  • Items run up to $999.99, and every purchase is non-refundable
  • Reviewers report long back-to-back ads, even while collecting free gems
  • Google Play's safety label says data is not encrypted in transit

Verdict

We score it 6.5: the Arrow and Blitz variants, Team Up and voice Clubs give it more to do than a plain board, and its coins carry no cash value. Take it if you want quick online ludo with friends abroad and can ignore the gem shop. Skip it if dice luck should stay pure, since gems buy re-rolls; if a child will play, since voice chat is adults-only and the terms set a 13+ floor; or if long ads wear you down.

Gameplay7.0Classic, Arrow, Blitz and Team Up add variety, but gem-paid Undo re-rolls tilt coin matches toward spenders.
Controls7.5Tap to roll and tap to move suit small screens; reviewers dislike auto-moves on the timer and Arrow's spinning wheel.
Replay value7.5Six-week Season Passes, a league ladder and hundreds of dice, though matchmaking can pit newcomers against coin millionaires.
Graphics & sound8.0Animated dice in hundreds of designs and live voice rooms, in a download of about half a gigabyte on iPhone.
Monetisation4.0Items up to $999.99, non-refundable gems that buy re-rolls, a 52-gem daily free cap and frequent ads.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Ludo STAR offline?

Yes, in part. Gameberry lists an offline mode next to online, private-table and Team Up matches, and the App Store description names offline play among the features. Coin tables, the league, Clubs and voice rooms need a connection, since Google's case study on Gameberry describes matchmaking and coin winnings as server-side services.

2

Is Ludo STAR pay to win?

Partly. Gameberry says dice rolls are random, but gems let a player undo a roll and throw again, and gems are sold: popular App Store packs cost $0.99 to $9.99, and Google Play items reach $999.99 (US prices, subject to change). Free gems are capped at 52 a day. Coins and gems have no cash value, and purchases are non-refundable.

3

How big is Ludo STAR and what does it need to run?

It needs Android 7.0 or later, or iOS and iPadOS 13 or later, and Apple also lists it for Macs with an M1 chip or newer. The download is heavy for a board game: about half a gigabyte on iPhone and roughly 270 MB on Android when we checked.

4

Can you play Ludo STAR with friends?

Yes. Private tables take invited friends, Facebook login brings in a friends list, and Team Up pairs two players against two. Clubs add group rooms with voice notes and gifts, though Gameberry's June 2026 audio policy limits voice chat to adults. We found no documented pass-and-play mode for one phone; Ludo King lists one if a family shares a device.

5

How often does Ludo STAR get new content?

Every six weeks, a new Season Pass opens a reward track of dice and cosmetics, according to the Google Play listing; the current season is the sea-themed Deep Sea Treasure. The App Store history shows eleven updates between mid-July and early October 2026, all labelled performance improvements and bug fixes.
