Two Dots Review: One Loop Clears the Whole Board

The Square Is the Whole Idea

Dots are connected in straight or right-angled lines, and each move costs one of a limited number. The mechanic that matters is the loop: enclose four dots in a square and every dot of that colour disappears from the board, wherever it sits. That turns a level from a search into a plan, because a square in the wrong place wastes the one colour you needed. Targets sit along the top — fifteen each of four colours in the store example — and a move counter falls with every line drawn.

Five Thousand Levels and a Second Game Inside

The level count is past five thousand, arranged into themed chapters with different palettes and obstacles: ice that cracks, anchors to drop, bombs that clear a radius when triggered. Alongside the dots sits a hidden-object mode, where a densely illustrated scene hides a handful of items to find — an entirely different puzzle bundled into the same app, and a better one than most standalone hidden-object games manage. Both share the same lives and currency. Chapters are unlocked in order rather than opened all at once, so the harder obstacles arrive gradually across the first few hundred levels.

605 MB, Adverts and Power-Ups

The install is 605 MB, which is the largest of any puzzle game in this catalogue and remarkable for a screen of coloured circles. Google Play carries an advertising badge with 50 million installs and 4.3 stars from 1.16 million reviews; Apple shows 4.5 from 172,000 ratings and rates it 9+, listing infrequent contests, loot boxes and advertising. Purchases are power-ups and lives at $0.99, extra moves at $1.99, and currency packs from $1.99 to $9.99 — bought, as ever, at the moment a level fails by one move.

Pros

  • Closing a square clears every dot of that colour
  • More than five thousand levels across themed chapters
  • A hidden-object mode bundled into the same app
  • Minimal art that stays readable on any screen
  • Rated 4.5 on the App Store across 172,000 ratings

Cons

  • A 605 MB install for a dot puzzle
  • Extra moves are sold at the point of failure
  • Lives limit how often you can retry
  • Apple lists loot boxes among the contents

Verdict

The most elegant puzzle idea in this catalogue: enclose four dots and the whole colour vanishes, which turns each level into a plan rather than a hunt. Five thousand levels and a bundled hidden-object game make it generous with content. The 605 MB install is absurd for what is on screen, and extra moves are sold at exactly the wrong moment.

Gameplay7.5The loop rule gives a simple mechanic genuine planning depth.
Controls8.5Drag between dots; lines snap cleanly and mistakes are easy to undo.
Replay value8.0Five thousand levels plus a second puzzle type in the same app.
Graphics & sound8.0Restrained flat design and quiet audio — the calmest game in this catalogue.
Monetisation5.5Adverts, lives and extra moves sold exactly when a level is nearly won.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can it be played offline?

Loaded levels play without a signal, which suits a game built for commutes. Progress, events and the hidden-object scenes sync when you reconnect, and adverts naturally do not appear while offline.

2

What does it sell?

Lives and single power-ups at $0.99, ten extra moves at $1.99, and currency packs between $1.99 and $9.99. The purchases that matter are the extra moves, offered when a level ends one line short — the standard pressure point of the genre.

3

How much space does it need?

605 MB and iOS 15 or later, which is hard to explain for a game of coloured circles and is the largest puzzle install here. The hidden-object artwork and the thousands of level layouts account for most of it.

4

Is there anything multiplayer?

No live play. Events compare scores between players asynchronously and some chapters have community goals, but every level is solved alone. That fits the tone — this is a quiet game rather than a competitive one.

5

How long is a level?

One to three minutes, with harder chapters taking several attempts. Lives set the session length as usual, and the game saves mid-level, so it survives being interrupted by a stop or a phone call.
