DoorDash Review: DoubleDash Adds a Second Shop Free

Delivery Windows Are Quoted to Fifteen Minutes

The confirmation screen gives an arrival range — 12:30 to 12:45 in the store example — with a progress line from restaurant to door and a note that the order has been sent to the shop for final confirmation. That precision matters more than a single estimated minute, because it sets expectations for a delivery that depends on traffic and kitchens. Around it sit grocery listings with distance, time and fee shown together: 1.5 miles, 30 minutes, no delivery fee over $25. Grocery orders behave the same way, with substitutions proposed by the shopper and approved in the app before checkout.

DoubleDash Keeps the Order Open for Ten Minutes

After placing an order, a timer — just under ten minutes in the store screenshots — lets you add items from another nearby shop with no added delivery fee and no order minimum. Flowers, a pharmacy item, drinks from a liquor store: the courier collects both. It is the same idea as Uber Eats bundling, executed as a window after checkout rather than before it, which suits the moment when you remember something as the order is placed. After that window closes the order proceeds normally, and a second delivery would cost a full fee again.

DashPass at $9.99, and Seven Shared Data Types

The membership costs $9.99 a month or $96 a year and removes delivery fees on eligible orders while reducing service fees; the app also runs DashPass-exclusive deals such as $10 off a $20 basket. There is no advertising badge on the Play listing, though promoted restaurants appear in results. Google Play lists eight collected categories with location, personal information and six others shared with third parties — the longest sharing list among the delivery apps here. The App Store rating of 4.8 across 23 million ratings is the largest positive sample of any delivery app reviewed here.

Verdict

The most complete delivery app in the US, and the details are what make it: a fifteen-minute window instead of a false-precision estimate, and ten minutes after checkout to add a second shop for free. DashPass is worth it past roughly two orders a month. The data card is the reason for the lower privacy score — seven categories shared onward is high even for this category.

Core function8.5Ordering, tracking and multi-shop delivery work with unusually precise timing.
Ease of use8.0Category chips and clear fee lines per store; the deals rows crowd the home screen.
Monetisation6.5Per-order fees or $9.99 a month, with member-only pricing shown throughout.
Performance7.0A very large install, though live tracking and menu loading stay responsive.
Privacy & permissions5.0Eight collected categories with seven shared onward, including location.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is DoorDash free to use?

The app is free with no in-app purchases and no advertising badge on its listing. Each order carries delivery and service fees, which DashPass removes on eligible orders for $9.99 a month. Some shops waive delivery above a basket minimum, often $25, without any membership.

2

What is DoubleDash?

A window of just under ten minutes after placing an order during which you can add items from another nearby shop — flowers, pharmacy items, drinks — with no additional delivery fee and no order minimum. The same courier collects both stops.

3

How much is DashPass?

$9.99 a month or $96 a year. It removes delivery fees on eligible orders, reduces service fees and unlocks member-only deals such as $10 off a $20 basket. A discounted student rate exists, and the membership pays for itself at roughly two orders a month.

4

How accurate are the delivery times?

The app quotes a fifteen-minute window rather than a single time, which is more honest than a precise-looking estimate. Restaurant confirmation adds a step at the start, and the tracker shows which stage the order is in, so a delay is visible rather than silent.

5

What are the alternatives?

Uber Eats bundles a second shop before checkout rather than after and shares a membership with rides. Collecting the order yourself avoids fees and menu markups entirely. Coverage is the real differentiator: in much of the US this app lists more restaurants than its rivals.
