About Wendy’s

The chain's US app puts Wendy's Rewards, mobile pickup orders and DoorDash-powered delivery behind one account. Every eligible dollar earns 10 points, a small fry costs 300 and a Baconator 900, and points last 365 days, about twice the six-month window at McDonald's and Taco Bell. Weekly app-only offers, such as $3 off $20, work on pickup. The catch: delivery orders earn no points and accept no offers, even inside the app.

Wendy's Review: Points That Last a Year, but Delivery Earns Nothing

10 points per $1: what 300, 700 and 900 points cost you

Rewards pay 1 point per 10 cents spent, rounded up, so a $4.13 order earns 42 points; taxes, tips, delivery charges, gift card purchases and the discounted part of an order earn nothing. The Rewards Store starts at 200 points for 4-piece nuggets or small seasoned potatoes, which is $20 of spending. A small fry costs 300 points, a Dave's Single 700 and a Baconator 900. That Dave's Single takes the same $70 of spending as a Big Mac at McDonald's, which charges 7,000 points at 100 per dollar. Points expire 365 days after posting, and a claimed reward lapses after 30 days with no refund of points. Reward prices can change.

Offers tab and QR code: one offer plus one reward, no cancel button

One offer from the Offers tab and one reward can share an order, whether in a mobile pickup order or loaded onto the QR code scanned at the counter or drive-thru. The current list includes $3 off $20 or more, free 6-piece nuggets with a $5 purchase on Wednesdays, a free fry of any size with $5 on Fridays and a 99-cent soft drink daily; offers vary by location and are unavailable to guest checkout. Forgot to scan? A receipt claim must arrive within 24 hours and is capped at 100 points, four times a month. Once you tap Place Order, the terms rule out cancelling, and refunds go through customer care at Wendy's discretion.

DoorDash delivery in the app: no points, no offers, three layers of cost

Delivery in the app is fulfilled by DoorDash, and problems with those orders go to DoorDash's support line rather than the restaurant. The delivery FAQ says these orders earn no points and do not qualify for in-app offers; the app's offer lists carry a Not available for delivery orders label. The terms add that delivery menu prices may be higher than pickup, plus a delivery fee, a service fee calculated on the pre-discount subtotal, other fees, sales tax and an optional tip. Gift cards cannot pay for delivery. Taco Bell's app, by contrast, earns points on in-app delivery, and McDonald's lets you add a reward to an in-app McDelivery order.

Precise location, keystroke logs and a 12-month opt-out from data sales

With location on, the app reads precise geolocation to pick the nearest restaurant and send local deals, and Apple's label says it may use location even when closed. It also logs clicks, scrolling and keystroke activity. The privacy policy, last updated September 9, 2024, says the company sells identifiers such as email, device IDs and IP addresses, purchase history, app-interaction data and approximate GPS- or network-based location for value other than money, and shares them for targeted ads. A Do Not Sell or Share request stops this for 12 months. Apple lists usage data as used to track you across other companies' apps. Rewards require age 16 and online ordering age 18, despite the 4+ store rating.

  • Rewards start at 200 points, or $20 of eligible spending

  • Missed QR scans can be claimed from a receipt within 24 hours

  • Delivery adds higher menu prices, delivery and service fees, and tax
  • 18 of the 150 newest Play reviews describe endless loading, crashes or login loops
  • Sells identifiers, purchase history and approximate location for ads unless you opt out

Verdict

We score the app 6.6: points last a full year, rewards start at 200 points and weekly offers save real money on pickup, but delivery earns no points and takes no offers, recent Android reviews center on loading and login failures, and the privacy policy describes selling location data. Take it if you order pickup or drive-thru often enough to reach 300 points within a year. Skip it for delivery, where Taco Bell and McDonald's still reward you.

Frequently asked questions

1

How many points do you need for free fries at Wendy's?

300 points for a small fry, which takes $30 of eligible spending at 10 points per dollar. A large fry costs 450 points. The Friday app offer also gives a free fry of any size with a $5 purchase. Reward prices and offers can change.

2

Can you use Wendy's app offers on delivery?

No. The chain's delivery FAQ says delivery orders neither earn Rewards points nor qualify for in-app offers, even when placed in the app or on the website. Offers and rewards still work on mobile pickup orders and at the counter or drive-thru through the app's QR code.

3

Is Wendy's delivery more expensive through the app?

It can be. The terms say delivery item prices may be higher than pickup prices and that orders can carry a delivery fee, a service fee calculated on the pre-discount subtotal, sales tax and an optional tip. Gift cards are not accepted for delivery. Amounts vary by location and may change.

4

Do Wendy's Rewards points expire?

Yes, 365 days after they post to your account, and the oldest points are spent first. A claimed reward expires 30 days later without a points refund. Cancelling membership, which the terms handle by phone at 888-624-8140, forfeits the balance, and accounts with no qualifying activity for 24 months can be closed.

5

Does the Wendy's app track your location?

It can. With location services on, the app reads precise geolocation, and Apple's label says it may use location while closed. The privacy policy says approximate location and identifiers are sold or shared for targeted ads; a Do Not Sell or Share request blocks that for 12 months.
