Best Comics and Manga Apps, Ranked
Shonen Jump is the best comics app: the newest chapters of many Shueisha series are free on the day they come out in Japan, and $3.99 a month opens a
Marvel's all-you-can-read subscription opens a back catalog of more than 30,000 comics, with new issues arriving about three months after they reach stores, plus Infinity Comics, a vertical-scroll line made only for this service. Downloads are unlimited on each device. The trade-off: the app shows nothing but a paywall until you start the 7-day trial, and a summer 2026 Android update locked many readers out behind an Unknown Age error.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
Opening the app without a subscription leads straight to a sign-up screen; Play reviewers in June and September 2026 say they could not browse reading guides or open comics redeemed from print codes until they paid. New subscribers get one free week, then Marvel charges $9.99 a month or $69 a year in the US, which it presents as a $50 saving; the App Store lists the annual plan at $68.99. Prices vary by region and can change. For a sample, marvel.com/infinitycomics hosts more than 30 free Infinity Comics issues in the browser, with no login required since the Start Scrolling program began in March 2024.
Infinity Comics are the one part of the catalog you cannot get anywhere else. Marvel launched the vertical-scroll line on September 9, 2021 with 27 issues, and by March 2024 reported more than 1,000 issues from over 300 creators, including Jonathan Hickman and Skottie Young. New ones arrive weekly. Regular comics are read page by page, with Smart Panel stepping through one panel at a time on small screens. Play reviewers in 2026 still find gaps: one asked for a fit-to-width option in September, another described lag in landscape mode in May, and a third complained that whole runs and random issues are missing.
The subscriber agreement allows unlimited downloads per device and use on up to five devices at once. Each issue is saved separately with its Download button and lands under the Downloads tab in My Library, so a September 2026 reviewer had to fetch Dawn of X one issue at a time. Reviewers in June and July 2026 said downloaded issues refused to open until they reconnected. Worse, from early July 2026 an Android update left readers stuck on an Error: Unknown Age or error -5 screen even after reinstalling, while the web reader kept working. Google Play's August 21 update was a bug-fix release; the last Unknown Age complaint we found is dated two days later, and September reviewers still hit issues that will not load.
DC Universe Infinite is the direct rival: Standard costs $7.99 a month or $74.99 a year but waits six months after print, while Ultra, at $12.99 a month or $119.99 a year, shows new DC issues after 30 days. VIZ's Shonen Jump charges $3.99 a month for more than 20,000 manga chapters. All are US prices that can change. On data, Marvel's Google Play form says name, email, user IDs and in-app search history may be shared with other companies, and declares that data isn't encrypted in transit; deletion can be requested. Apple's label lists identifiers used for tracking. Your Marvel login doubles as your MyDisney account across Disney services.

We score it 7.2. A 30,000-comic catalog for $9.99 a month, unlimited downloads and Infinity Comics found nowhere else earn most of that; the summer 2026 Android lockout, unreliable offline reading and a data form declaring no encryption in transit pull it down. Take it to work through decades of Marvel runs if a three-month wait is fine. Skip it if you follow new issues weekly, want to browse before paying, or depend on downloads while traveling.
