About Tappytoon Comics & Novels

Tappytoon is Contents First's app for licensed Korean webcomics and web novels, with comics in English, French and German and novels in English. A series usually opens with about three free chapters, then charges 300 or 400 points each, roughly 36 to 57 cents at US pack prices. The limits: no offline downloads, blocked screenshots, and mature editions sold only on the website.

Tappytoon Review: Licensed Hits Like Solo Leveling, Paid by the Chapter

Time Till Free, 48-Hour Tickets and the Three-Chapter Preview

In the 12 series we checked on the website on October 1, 2026, the free opening ran from one to seven chapters, most often three. After that, Time Till Free moves selected series forward one chapter per 24 hours, and a few, such as Love Jinx, use a 3-hour timer. It works strictly in order, skips the newest chapters of ongoing series, and each free chapter locks again when its window closes. Free Tickets, from a page refreshed weekly, open the next locked chapter of a featured comic for 48 hours. Free points come from a Tapjoy offer wall or up to 30 video ads an hour, though the help center warns that ads may be unavailable for your profile, and 2026 reviewers call them long and patchy.

Character Chat: 7 Free Messages, Then Points per Message

Character Chat sits in the Explore tab next to Collections, both introduced in July 2026. You pick a series character and a role, sometimes the love interest; the app says every reply is artificially generated and each character is made with the original author's permission. The first 7 messages are free, then points are deducted for every message you send, while incoming replies cost nothing, and points spent by mistake are not returned. Chats run in English only, history is visible to you alone, and deleting a room erases it for good. Reviews since May 2026 split sharply: several readers call it unwanted AI content, while a September reviewer enjoyed playing a lead role.

300 or 400 Points a Chapter: Club Standard, VIP and Expiring Bonuses

Points are the only currency. On the US App Store, 1,400 points cost $1.99, 7,800 cost $9.99 and 16,500 cost $19.99, so a 400-point chapter works out to about 48 to 57 cents and a 300-point one to 36 to 43 cents. Club Standard, listed at $4.99 a month, adds 4,400 points each cycle, 30 bonus points per daily check-in and a 12-hour wait on 24-hour Time Till Free series. Monthly Club points do not expire, but check-in rewards lapse after 7 days. A VIP tier announced on September 30, 2026 raises the allowance to 8,000 points and adds a VIP Lounge of 30-plus free series. US prices vary by region and can change.

Screenshot Blocks, Web-Only Mature Editions and a 5-Device Limit

Since version 4.17.0 in late August 2026, reviewers report that the app blocks screenshots, even of chapters they paid for. There is no offline download, which WEBTOON offers on select Originals for 30 days and Lezhin added per episode in June 2026. Citing Apple and Google policies, the company sells mature editions only on the website after 18+ age verification, separately from the all-ages version. You can log in on 5 devices and reset that list once every 3 months. The Terms of Service, effective May 26, 2026, set a minimum age of 16. Google Play's Data safety form says name, email, device IDs and approximate location may be shared with other companies, and that data is encrypted in transit. Apple's label lists contact info, identifiers and usage data used to track you.

Pros

  • Time Till Free opens one chapter every 24 hours on selected series
  • Free Tickets open the next locked chapter of featured comics for 48 hours
  • Comics come in English, French and German; novels sync between app and web
  • Club monthly points never expire, and VIP adds 30-plus free series
  • Unlocked chapters stay readable after a publisher pulls a series

Cons

  • Most series give only about three free chapters before charging points
  • No offline downloads, and screenshots are blocked since August 2026
  • Check-in reward points expire 7 days after they are issued
  • Mature editions need the website, 18+ verification and a separate purchase

Verdict

We score Tappytoon 6.3. The licensed catalogue earns most of it: Solo Leveling, romance fantasy and BL series, novels and comics in three languages, plus Time Till Free and 48-hour tickets for sampling. Pricing, expiring check-in points, blocked screenshots and missing downloads pull it down. Take it if you follow a series it licenses and accept paying per chapter. Skip it if you want offline reading or mostly free comics, where WEBTOON fits better.

Ease of use6.5Library tracks unlocked chapters per series, yet switching login method creates a blank account and devices cap at 5.
Monetisation5.0About three free chapters, then 36 to 57 cents per chapter, with check-in points expiring after 7 days.
Performance6.5Editors' Choice on Google Play, but 2026 reviewers report lag, failing reward ads and an update that would not open.
Privacy & permissions5.0Contact info and identifiers used for cross-app tracking, and Play lists name, email and coarse location as shared data.

Frequently asked questions

1

Is Tappytoon free to read?

Partly. Most series open with about three free chapters, then Time Till Free releases one more every 24 hours on selected series, in order and excluding the newest chapters. Free Tickets add 48-hour access to single chapters, and partner offers or video ads earn points. Everything else costs points.

2

How does Character Chat work on Tappytoon?

It is a chat with series characters in the Explore tab, where replies are artificially generated and each character is made with the author's permission. You get 7 free messages, then each message you send costs points, while replies are free. It works in English only, chats stay private, and deleting a room cannot be undone.

3

How much does a Tappytoon chapter cost?

Usually 300 or 400 points. On the US App Store, 1,400 points cost $1.99 and 7,800 cost $9.99, so a chapter costs roughly 36 to 57 cents. Club Standard, listed at $4.99 a month, adds 4,400 points plus daily check-in bonuses that expire after 7 days. Prices vary by region and can change.

4

Can I download Tappytoon chapters to read offline?

No. The app has no download option, so chapters need a connection. Unlocked chapters stay in your Library across app and web, even if a publisher later withdraws the series, and they remain after a Club membership ends. Deleting your account is immediate and erases purchases and unlock history for good.

5

What are the best alternatives to Tappytoon?

WEBTOON suits readers who want free weekly Originals and 30-day downloads of select series. Lezhin sells episodes for coins much like this app and lets you pick single episodes to download. Tapas, another per-episode store, stopped selling Ink on October 1, 2026 and closes on March 31, 2027.
