WEBTOON Review: Free Weekly Originals, Coins or Ads for the Rest

Ad Pass, Fast Pass and the 7-Coin Episode

Ongoing Originals post free weekly episodes, but three locks surround them. Fast Pass sells upcoming episodes early for Coins; unlocks never expire, and many of those episodes turn free after a wait. Ad Pass opens selected episodes for a short ad, yet each stays readable for only 3 days. Daily Pass, which from 2020 gave one free episode a day from completed series, ended on May 29, 2025; Anime News Network reported that those episodes then cost 3 Coins each. Reviewers in 2026 say a typical early episode rose from 5 to 7 Coins, roughly 65 to 70 cents at US pack prices. Prices are regional and can change.

Watch Tab: Voiced Video Episodes and 1-Minute Short Dramas

Video Episodes arrived in August 2025: 14 English Originals, including The Mafia Nanny, each got 20 free five-minute videos with motion, music and voice acting. In December 2025 the Watch tab gathered them, plus series trailers, into one slot in the bottom bar between Home and Search. Version 3.9.9, in August 2026, added Short Dramas: six live-action romance adaptations such as Love Bites and Maybe Meant to Be, each 40 to 50 episodes of one to two minutes. Only a limited number of drama episodes are free; the rest cost Coins, and at launch the format ran only on the English and French platforms.

WEBTOON Premium From $3.99: What the Subscription Leaves In

WEBTOON Premium replaced Monthly Coin Premium on September 17, 2025. It is a monthly Coin top-up, not unlimited reading: $3.99 buys 20 Coins plus 2 bonus, $9.99 buys 100 plus 10, $19.99 buys 200 plus 25 and $49.99 buys 500 plus 75. Tiers above $3.99 add episode discounts. Ad-free reading covers Original series only; CANVAS ads, video ads for unlocking, splash ads, promotional pop-ups and branded content stay. Ads are the main complaint: Play reviewers in September 2026 describe half-screen video ads on free episodes that run 15 seconds before closing, with sound on, and several say ads opened Shopee, Shein or TikTok without a tap. Premium Coins bought on Google Play do not work on iPhone. US prices, subject to change.

Coin Hunter, Installed Apps and the Arbitration Clause

The main free route to Coins is Coin Hunter, a mission board for US users aged 13 and up: reach a level in another game, answer a quiz, sign up for a brand account or make a purchase. The privacy policy, updated May 12, 2026, says joining requires usage-access permission and shares your advertising ID and installed-apps list with Adjoe GmbH in Hamburg; consent can be withdrawn. Free Coins expire, while bought and bonus Coins do not, and reviewers report mission Coins lapsing within a day to two weeks. Apple's label lists identifiers and usage data used to track you across other companies' apps, and Google's form adds approximate location and purchase history. The Terms of Use, revised September 24, 2024, make Coin sales final and send disputes to binding JAMS arbitration, with 30 days to opt out.

We score WEBTOON 6.4. The library earns most of it: free weekly Originals, licensed series such as Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, independent CANVAS work and free voiced Video Episodes. Money and ads pull it down: Daily Pass is gone, early episodes run about 7 Coins, and Premium leaves several ad types in place. Take it if you follow ongoing series week by week. Skip it if you binge completed series or want one flat fee; for Marvel titles, Marvel Unlimited's subscription fits that better.

How do I cancel WEBTOON Premium and delete my account?

On Android, uninstall the app first, then use the web deletion link. Deletion erases Coins and unlocked episodes, and published CANVAS series must be removed first.
