Best Comics and Manga Apps, Ranked
Shonen Jump is the best comics app: the newest chapters of many Shueisha series are free on the day they come out in Japan, and $3.99 a month opens a
WebComics is a color manhwa and manhua reader from Hong Kong-registered WebComics Holdings, run by Sidewalk Group, with a catalog its store pages put at 8,000 to 12,000-plus titles and an interface in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Indonesian. Series open with free chapters, then move to gems at roughly five per chapter. The main limit: reviewers count only five ad-unlocked chapters a day, and Premium does not remove gem prices.
Specs come from the official store listings and were last checked on 2026-10-01. Developers change pricing and requirements — check the store page before installing.
Every series opens with a run of free chapters; one August 2026 Play reviewer counted five or six on many titles. After that, a chapter can be opened with a rewarded ad, but reviewers on both stores from December 2025 to September 2026 count five such unlocks per day across the whole app, not per series, and several time the ads at a minute or longer. Others report the ad option vanishing 30 to 40 chapters into a series, leaving gems as the only key. Tokens from check-ins, reading time and ads convert to gems, yet K-Comics Beat counted 24,000 tokens per Reward Gem in 2024, with balances reset after 30 days without opening the app. Google Play's rating also flags in-app purchases that include random items.
Anything you have unlocked can be saved from the Library's Downloads tab for offline reading. The same Library splits Subscription and History and marks series with new chapters with an UP badge, while web series pages state a release rhythm, such as two updates a week on Tuesday and Saturday for The Necromancer: Scourge Incarnate. K-Comics Beat noted in 2024 that the app stamps its watermark in a page corner every couple of pages, sometimes over art or dialogue. Play reviewers from 2021 to 2026 also report typos, wrong pronouns and small speech bubbles in some translations, though others rate them fine. Update notes since June 2026 announce a Comic Shorts video channel in the Shorts tab.
The US App Store lists Premium at $5.99 a month, $17.99 a quarter or $69.99 a year, and PLUS at $69.99 a month or $599.99 a year. K-Comics Beat described Premium in 2024 as monthly gems, two free comics a week, early access and ad-free reading, with PLUS opening every comic. Subscribers in four languages say in 2026 that the weekly picks are chosen for you and most chapters still cost gems; one French subscriber counted 50 gems a month against five per chapter. Gem packs run from 10 for $0.99 to 1,000 for $99.99, about 10 cents a gem, so a five-gem chapter costs roughly 50 cents. Tappytoon's Club membership lists at $4.99 a month. US prices vary by region and can change.
Google Play's Data safety section says device IDs are shared for advertising, and Apple's label lists usage data as used to track you. The privacy policy, last updated May 24, 2018, names AdMob, Facebook Audience Network, AppLovin, ironSource, Unity Ads and AdColony, and its Android version lists precise location, phone state and account access among requested permissions. The policy points to a Delete account option in settings or deletion by email, though a May 2026 App Store reviewer could not find the button. The terms require users to be 13 or older and describe a Mature Content Filter that age-tags every series and restricts some for under-18 accounts.

We scored it 6.1: the full-color catalog and offline Downloads work well, but the free path narrows to five ad unlocks a day, gems cost about 10 cents each, and Premium does not remove them. Take it if you follow a few series, read Wait Until Free titles and can wait between chapters. Skip it if you binge long series or want fewer ad networks; WEBTOON and Tappytoon are easier on free readers.

Partly. Each series opens with free chapters, and reviewers in 2025 and 2026 count five more ad-unlocked chapters a day across the whole app. Past that, and once a series turns off ad unlocks, chapters usually cost about five gems each. Wait Until Free titles and the Daily Free section are the main no-cost routes.
Type the code into the app's search bar and it opens that series. Promotional posts on Instagram often show a six-digit code instead of a comic's title, and a September 2026 Play reviewer confirmed search accepts codes as well as names. Some readers dislike that the title stays hidden until you install.
Premium costs $5.99 a month, $17.99 a quarter or $69.99 a year on the US App Store. It adds monthly gems and a weekly set of free comics, but 2026 subscribers say the picks are chosen for you and most chapters still need gems. It suits readers happy with featured titles, not binge readers. Prices vary by region.
Yes, for chapters you have already unlocked: the Library has a Downloads tab, and downloads cost nothing extra. Locked chapters need a connection to unlock. If you step away, K-Comics Beat reported token and Reward Gem balances resetting after 30 days without opening the app.
For reading without paying, usually not. WEBTOON makes Fast Pass episodes free after a waiting period, and Tappytoon gives one Time Till Free chapter every 24 hours on select series. The case for WebComics is its romance, BL and action shelf, where reviewers find series missing elsewhere. Paid entry is similar: $0.99 buys 10 coins on WEBTOON or 10 gems here (US prices).
