About Digimon Up

Digimon Up is Bandai Namco's idle monster-raiser — choose Agumon, Gabumon, Veemon or Guilmon as a partner, feed and train them on timers, send a team into Battle Terminal matchups and dungeon bosses, and pull supporting Digimon from a gacha — free on iOS and Android since July 15, 2026 with ads, loot boxes and DigiDiamond packs from $0.99 to $64.99. It rates 4.4 on the App Store and 4.0 on Google Play. The sprites and music please the fans; the most-voted reviews call the loop tedious and the gacha the worst they have seen.

Digimon Up Review: A Licensed Idle Game That Asks You to Tap Through the Idling

Pick a Partner, Feed It, Train It, Send It to the Battle Terminal

The design is a Tamagotchi-shaped idle battler: you choose a partner from the anime's starters, feed it meat and drinks, train it on a punching bag through a hex grid of stat nodes, and digivolve it over days, while a team of support Digimon fights automatic rounds in the Battle Terminal — and dungeon bosses such as Picodevimon. Supports come from a gacha. A July 17 App Store five-star from a self-confessed idle-game collector loves the new addition; a September 1 Play one-star with six votes says the sprites look nice and the gameplay is tedious. The specific idle complaint is structural: the game makes you leave the phone on to progress and click through tasks repeatedly even when the tasks take seconds, so it is neither idle nor active. An August 26 three-star with nine votes logs in once or twice a day for bonuses and leaves.

One Summon a Day, a Filter That Bans Ordinary Words, and Numbers Nobody Explains

The gacha draws the strongest words: a September 9 Play two-star calls it the worst gacha system it has experienced — one special summon per day with free currency, bad rates, garbage rewards, better results from the general pool — and an August 21 App Store one-star says free resources pile up unusable because only one draw a day can spend them. An August 5 three-star warns in capitals that anyone with an addictive personality should beware, citing ad boosting, a gacha with abhorrent currency conversion and stacked passes. The chat filter is a running joke: a July 21 four-star and a September 20 three-star cannot say basic English words in the one social feature the game has. A September 19 one-star asks for explanations of anything — numbers that make no sense and mechanics learned only by YouTube and Reddit. Launch bugs — dungeon bosses, Apocalymon — were patched through August, and a July 21 two-star sums up the fan reaction: not what anyone wanted from the franchise, zero story, glitches galore.

DigiDiamonds to $64.99, an $8.99 Ad Skip Pass, Two More Passes, Loot Boxes

The App Store shop lists DigiDiamond packs A through E from $0.99 to $64.99, an Ad Skip Pass at $8.99, a Premium Plan Digital Boost Pass at $5.99, a DigiDiamond Pass at $5.99; Google Play's range is $0.99 to $64.99 with random items declared, and both stores show advertising — optional ad boosts that the Ad Skip Pass removes. Data collection is the broadest on this shelf: Google lists financial info, messages and four other types collected; Apple lists purchases, contact info, user content, browsing history, identifiers and usage data linked to you. The iOS build is 266 MB on iOS 15 or later; Android needs 9; ten languages; rated Everyone and 9+. Two months in it shows 1 million-plus installs and 64,100 reviews at 4.0 on Play, 9,326 App Store ratings at 4.4 — a Digimon audience arriving on the name. Prices are regional.

Pros

  • Agumon, Gabumon, Veemon and Guilmon as partners, with the anime's sprites and music
  • A feed-train-digivolve loop that reviewers found fun at first
  • Battle Terminal matchups and dungeon bosses on a small 266 MB install
  • Ten languages and an official Bandai Namco licence
  • Bugs from launch — Apocalymon, dungeon bosses — patched through August

Cons

  • An idle game that needs the phone on and tasks tapped through repeatedly
  • One special summon a day, bad rates, garbage rewards — the worst gacha one reviewer has seen
  • Aggressive monetisation: ad boosts, three passes, loot boxes, packs to $64.99
  • A chat filter that blocks ordinary words, no explanations, no story

Verdict

A 4.5: the Digimon licence on an idle template that is not idle enough to ignore and not active enough to enjoy, with a gacha its players call the worst they have met and a shop that warrants a warning. Take it only if you want to raise an Agumon on a timer and can ignore everything around it. Skip it if you wanted a Digimon game — the July reviewers who grew up with the franchise say plainly this is not the one.

Gameplay4Feed, train, tap, wait — tedious and boring to the most-voted review, stale within weeks to others.
Controls6Taps and timers that work; the problem is how many taps the timers demand.
Replay value4A once-or-twice-a-day log-in for bonuses, by a three-star fan's own description.
Graphics & sound7The one thing everyone agrees on — nice sprites, great music, a wonderful art style.
Monetisation3Ad boosts, an Ad Skip Pass, two more passes, a one-a-day gacha and a warning in capitals.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Digimon Up offline?

No. The Battle Terminal matchups, the gacha, the chat, the ad boosts and the daily bonuses run on Bandai Namco's servers, and a September 2026 one-star's complaint is that the phone must stay on and connected to progress. There is no offline mode described on either store.

2

Is Digimon Up pay to win?

The reviews describe pay-to-progress with an aggressive shop: DigiDiamonds from $0.99 to $64.99, an $8.99 Ad Skip Pass, a $5.99 boost pass and a $5.99 diamond pass, loot boxes, and a free gacha limited to one special summon a day with rates a September 2026 review calls bad. An August three-star warns players with addictive tendencies away. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for Digimon Up?

iOS 15 or newer with 266 MB free, or Android 9 or newer — it is a light 2D game and no reviewer reports performance trouble. The demand is on your time and attention rather than the hardware: the game wants the screen on to progress, which a September 2026 review counts against it.

4

Can you play Digimon Up with friends?

The Battle Terminal pits your team against other tamers' and there is a chat, which Google Play flags as user interaction — but the chat's filter blocks ordinary words, per reviews from July through September 2026, and no co-op or friend battles are described on either store.

5

How much time does Digimon Up take?

Officially minutes a day; in practice more, because tasks must be tapped through and the phone left on for progress, per the most-voted September 2026 review. An August three-star settled into logging in once or twice a day for bonuses and leaving. Digivolutions run on multi-day timers, and the one-summon-a-day gacha sets the collection's pace.
