About The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin

The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is Netmarble's open-world anime RPG: you play Tristan, son of Meliodas and Elizabeth, across a Britannia broken by a collision of time and space — fishing, cooking, giant bosses and tag-team combat that swaps heroes mid-fight. It reached phones on March 23, 2026, a week after PlayStation 5 and Steam. The mobile build is 3.9 GB, wants iOS 15 or Android 11, sells pulls to $99.99, and a launch review called its controls unplayable on a Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin Review: A Console World the Phone Has to Carry

Britannia With Fishing, Bosses and a Mount — Solo or in a Party

The manga sold 55 million copies and the game is a new chapter rather than a retelling: Tristan and a new companion, Tioreh, cross a continent where time and space have collided, so the Sins of the original story appear in a multiverse framing. It is a full open world — deep-lake fishing, campfire cooking, hidden treasure, gigantic field monsters, a mount to cross it on — and the original anime voice cast records the lines. Netmarble launched it on PlayStation 5 and Steam on March 16, 2026 and on iOS and Android on March 23; on PS5 it topped that month's PlayStation Store free-to-play chart, per Inven Global. The phone version carries the same world: 3.9 GB on the App Store, 1 million installs and 56,000 reviews at 4.4 on Google Play, 4,750 App Store ratings at 4.6.

Tag Battles, Weapon-Hero Combos and Potions on a Timer

Combat is the tag system: a party of heroes, each paired with a weapon type, and a swap mid-combo that triggers team attacks when timed well. Netmarble frames it as high-strategy action; the Play reviews frame it as demanding. An August 2026 review from a non-paying player describes a small health bar, enemies with far more, a long cooldown between potion uses and cramped arenas where attacks come from every side — enough to make repeating bosses four or five times feel like a wall. A March 24, 2026 review from a Galaxy S25 Ultra owner who also plays on PC calls the launch mobile build unplayable — unresponsive controls, heavy lag — while praising the mount, the combat and the amount of content. Version 2.1.0 on September 15, 2026 is six months of patches later; the store pages do not state controller support for the phone build.

373 Free Draws, a Hawk Pass and Skins That Need the Hero

The gacha is the model: Netmarble advertises a guaranteed SSR hero, an SSR weapon and Tioreh plus up to 373 draws for playing, and then sells the rest. Google Play prices items from $0.99 to $99.99; the App Store ladder shows Special Pickup Hero Packs at $14.99 and $29.99, an Exclusive Costume Pack at $14.99, a Cube Key Pack and a Special Hero Pick Up Bundle at $4.99, Hawk Pass Plus Season 5 at $9.99 and Star Memory 3,800 at $29.99. Apple flags Loot Boxes. The July 2026 review Netmarble apologised under makes the specific point: exclusive costume packs are useless unless you also own the hero, and the game does not say so before purchase. Google's data-safety card lists Personal info, Financial info and two other types shared with third parties. Rated Teen on Play and 13+ by Apple. Prices are regional and packs rotate with seasons.

Pros

  • A real open world with fishing, cooking, a mount and the anime's voice cast
  • Tag-team combos that reward a well-timed hero swap
  • Up to 373 free draws plus a guaranteed SSR hero and weapon for playing
  • On PlayStation 5, Steam, iOS and Android since March 2026
  • Six months of patches to version 2.1.0 after a rough mobile launch

Cons

  • Launch reviews call the phone controls unresponsive and laggy on an S25 Ultra
  • Costume packs bought for real money are useless without the matching hero
  • Potion cooldowns and boss repeats punish non-paying players, per August reviews
  • 3.9 GB, Android 11 minimum, loot boxes and $99.99 packs

Verdict

A 6.5: a genuinely console-scale anime open world that the phone version carries with visible strain, and a gacha with a costume trap Netmarble had to apologise for. Take it if you want Britannia in your pocket on a flagship phone and can play the story on the free draws. Skip it if your phone is mid-range, if you want an offline RPG, or if loot boxes and $29.99 hero packs are not for you — the PlayStation 5 and Steam builds are the same game with better controls.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin offline?

No. It is a live-service open world with parties, co-op bosses, gacha banners and a seasonal Hawk Pass, all of which run on Netmarble's servers; nothing on either store describes an offline mode. The 3.9 GB install is the client only. Plan on Wi-Fi for the download and a steady connection in play, since launch reviews already complained about lag.

2

Is The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin pay to win?

The gacha decides your roster: heroes and SSR weapons come from draws, Google Play prices packs from $0.99 to $99.99 and Apple flags loot boxes. Netmarble gives up to 373 draws and a guaranteed SSR hero and weapon for free, so the story is playable without paying; an August 2026 review from a free player says bosses and potion cooldowns are where it bites. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin?

iOS 15 or newer with 3.9 GB free, or Android 11 or newer — and in practice a flagship: a March 2026 reviewer on a Galaxy S25 Ultra reported unresponsive controls and lag at launch. Six months of updates have followed, but the PlayStation 5 and Steam versions remain the safer way to play the same game if your phone is mid-range.

4

Can you play The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin with friends?

Yes — Netmarble describes parties for exploration and teaming up against gigantic bosses, and the game runs on PlayStation 5, Steam, iOS and Android. The store pages do not spell out cross-play between phone and console players, so check in-game before planning a mixed party. There is no local multiplayer.

5

How much time does The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin take?

A big one: a March 2026 reviewer calls the amount of things to do insane, and the structure — open-world exploration, a long story, seasonal Hawk Pass tasks and pickup banners — expects regular sessions. Boss fights that a free player repeats four or five times, per an August 2026 review, add hours on their own.
