About Sephora US: Makeup & Skincare

The Sephora app is the retailer's own store, and the free Beauty Insider account is what makes it pay: shipping is free with no order minimum, every dollar earns at least one point, and 500 points take $10 off. The app adds 24-hour early access to new drops and a selfie-based Smart Skin Scan. The weak spot is reliability: Android reviewers have reported forced sign-outs since 2025, and a June 2026 redesign that hid purchase history.

Sephora App Review: Free Shipping and Early Drops, Shaky Sign-Ins

Free shipping, 24-hour early access and the $350 and $1,000 tiers

Beauty Insider is free and brings shipping with no order minimum and at least one point per dollar; 500 points become $10 off at checkout. On top, the app adds 24-hour early access to new launches, such as a Dior drop during the March 2026 App Fest, and Beauty Insider Challenges that pay 100 points per task, up to 500 per challenge. The bigger perks follow annual spend. VIB starts at $350 a year and Rouge at $1,000, which lifts the twice-yearly Savings Event discount from 10% to 15% and 20%, and lets Rouge members trade 2,500 points for a $100 reward. Birthday gifts are free in store, but online redemption needs a $25 order. These are US terms and may change.

Smart Skin Scan: seven skin concerns from one selfie

Smart Skin Scan lives inside the app and asks for one well-lit selfie. Within seconds it grades seven concerns (fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, uneven texture, redness, dryness, pores and blemishes), then proposes a four-step routine built from products on the shelves. The company says the model was trained on more than 70,000 medical-grade images and showed 95% test-retest reliability in a medical study; those are its figures, not ours. It also says the photo is not saved. A March 2026 Play review describes the final View Recommendations button stuck on loading, and the developer's reply gave no fix date.

Same-Day Unlimited at $49 a year and Auto-Replenish at 5% off

Buy online and pick up works at every store and curbside at most of them; speed is what costs extra. Same-Day Delivery can be booked into a two-hour window, with order cutoffs set by postal code. Same-Day Unlimited drops the per-order same-day fee for $49 plus tax a year after a 30-day free trial, and it renews automatically. Auto-Replenish takes 5% off every scheduled delivery, ships free and emails a reminder three days before each order; moving house means cancelling and starting the subscription again. Prices are US and can change, so check the current terms in the app.

Sign-outs, a June 2026 redesign and cross-app tracking

Android reviews from 2025 and 2026 keep citing one bug: the app signs people out even with Stay signed in switched on, and a developer reply in June 2025 said a fix was in progress. Since the June 2026 update, reviewers describe a home screen without the old dashboard, hard-to-find purchase history and points, and a credit card bill-pay screen where the keyboard never appears. On privacy, Apple's label lists purchases, search history, identifiers and usage data as used to track you across other companies' apps, and the listing warns the app may use location while closed. On Android, the Data safety form lists name, email, user IDs and device IDs as shared partly for advertising, sent encrypted and deletable on request.

Pros

  • Free shipping with no order minimum after joining the free Beauty Insider
  • 24-hour app early access to new drops, such as Dior in March 2026
  • Smart Skin Scan rates seven skin concerns from one selfie without saving it
  • Store pickup, curbside, two-hour same-day windows and Auto-Replenish at 5% off
  • OLIVE YOUNG K-beauty Edit adds 19 Korean brands since August 2026

Cons

  • Reviewers since 2025 report sign-outs despite the Stay signed in setting
  • June 2026 redesign hid purchase history and points, according to Play reviewers
  • Apple label lists purchases and search history used to track you across apps
  • The best perks need $350 or $1,000 of spending a year

Verdict

We score the app 7.0. Free shipping without a minimum, app-only early access and Smart Skin Scan earn a high core score; repeated sign-outs, a confusing June 2026 redesign and broad ad tracking pull the total down. Take it if you buy prestige beauty several times a year and want points, early drops and pickup in one place. Skip it if you need a dependable Android app or object to cross-app tracking of your purchases.

Core function8.5Free shipping with no minimum, app-only 24-hour early access, Smart Skin Scan and four ways to receive an order.
Ease of use6.0Reviewers report sign-outs despite Stay signed in and a June 2026 redesign that buried purchase history and points.
Monetisation8.0Free app with no Google Play purchases; extras like $49-a-year Same-Day Unlimited are optional, but top tiers need $350+.
Performance5.52025–2026 Play reviews cite crashes, checkout errors and a bill-pay keyboard bug; 25 iPhone releases since January 29.

Frequently asked questions

1

Does the Sephora app have free shipping?

Yes, once you join Beauty Insider, which is free: members get free standard shipping on every order with no minimum, though exclusions apply. Auto-Replenish orders always ship free too. Same-Day Delivery is billed separately unless you hold a Same-Day Unlimited subscription. These are US terms and can change.

2

How does Sephora Smart Skin Scan work?

You open Smart Skin Scan in the app and take one well-lit selfie. Within seconds it rates seven concerns, from fine lines and dark spots to redness, pores and blemishes, and suggests a four-step routine. Sephora says it does not save the photo and that the model was trained on over 70,000 medical-grade images. It is free for every Beauty Insider.

3

How much is Sephora Same-Day Unlimited?

It costs $49 plus tax a year in the US after a 30-day free trial, and it renews automatically until you cancel. Only Beauty Insiders can subscribe, and the purchase itself earns 49 points. It covers same-day orders placed before the local cutoff, which varies by postal code. Check the current price in the app before signing up.

4

How do I cancel Sephora Same-Day Unlimited or Auto-Replenish?

Both are cancelled from your Beauty Insider account. Same-Day Unlimited is managed in the Account Summary, and cancelling during the 30-day trial ends free access that same day. Auto-Replenish subscriptions sit under Manage Subscriptions and can be paused or cancelled at any time. To leave completely, Google Play's Data safety form says you can ask the developer to delete your data.

5

What are the best alternatives to the Sephora app?

Ulta Beauty, IPSY and Sally Beauty are the closest picks. Ulta Beauty's app pairs Ulta Beauty Rewards with GLAMlab virtual try-on, a Foundation Shade Matcher, Skin Analysis and booking for The Salon. IPSY is a subscription, not a store: its Original, Extra and Ultimate plans let you choose one or three products a month. Sally Beauty focuses on hair, nails and pro brands.
