About Soul Land: Awakening World

Soul Land: Awakening World is 37Games' licensed 3D open-world MMORPG of the Douluo Dalu anime and novels — a Shrek Academy student absorbing spirit rings, hunting Spirimon and duelling from Saint Village to the Isle of Poseidon — free on iOS and Android since June 2, 2026. Fans rate it 4.4 on Google Play and 4.8 on the App Store for the story and the look. The complaints: the pace, an auto-navigated open world, Chinese-only voices, a 3.7 GB download and a shop that reaches $299.99 with loot boxes.

Soul Land: Awakening World Review: The Anime, Faithfully, at a Cultivation Crawl

A Shrek Academy Student, Spirit Rings and the Seven Monsters

The licence is dual — anime and novel — and the reviews from readers say it shows. You play a new student whose Soul Power awakens; you absorb halos (the series' spirit rings) from hunted Spirimon, meet the Seven Monsters and the Spirit Temple Elders, and travel from Saint Village to the Isle of Poseidon. A June 17, 2026 App Store four-star who has read the books and watched the show is amazed at how well it captures them; the most-voted Play review, a June 19 five-star with 24 votes, calls the storyline and character skills endless. The limits sit in the same reviews: a June 15 three-star with 15 votes is disappointed there is no character customisation and that everyone is forced into Shrek Academy. A June 14 three-star says the open world plays like Dragon Raja — tap the mission and the game walks you there.

Stunning, Slow, and Half-Supported on a Controller

Two threads run through the App Store reviews: it looks like the anime, and it plods. A June 19 three-star calls the visuals stunning and every little thing slow, with very few choices; a June 7 three-star finds progression very slow for anyone who already knows the story; the June 17 four-star says the experience gains are too small and the stamina options too few. Google Play's June 7 four-star adds too much dialogue and not enough combat at the start, upgrading that is a pain, combat that is great — and a Snapdragon phone overheating. Controller support is partial: a June 21 four-star has to jump between pad and touch. Voices are Chinese only, per a July 5 review. August reviews report a black screen on pressing start and an endless loading screen on the second launch. Android is on version 2.7.1, iOS on 2.7.2, in four languages.

Deluxe Packs, Trident Coins, $299.99 Items and Loot Boxes

Google Play prices items from $0.29 to $299.99 and labels the listing as including random items; the App Store's top ten are numbered Deluxe Packs from $0.99 to $19.99 plus 68 Trident Coins at $9.99, and Apple flags Loot Boxes. A June 29 four-star calls it a great game if it were not pay to win, especially in PvE and the gacha. There is no ads badge on either store. Data collection is broad: Google's card lists location, personal info and two other types collected, with device IDs shared with third parties, and Apple lists identifiers and other data linked to you. The iOS build is 3.71 GB and runs on iOS 13 or later; Android needs 8.0. Three and a half months in it has 500,000-plus installs and 17,200 reviews at 4.4 on Play, 439 App Store ratings at 4.8. Prices are regional and the packs rotate.

Pros

  • Faithful to the anime and novels, say readers and viewers in the reviews
  • Spirit rings absorbed from hunted Spirimon, the series' system intact
  • Great combat and endless character skills, per the most-voted Play reviews
  • Anime-grade visuals that the harshest reviewers still call stunning
  • No ads and an iOS 13 floor for a 3D open world

Cons

  • Progression plods — small experience gains, few stamina options, long dialogue
  • No character customisation and every player forced into Shrek Academy
  • Missions auto-navigate; the open world is a corridor, per a June review
  • Items to $299.99, loot boxes and a pay-to-win PvE and gacha, per reviews

Verdict

A 5.8: the Soul Land story told faithfully in anime-grade 3D, attached to a cultivation MMO that plods, walks you to every mission and asks for money in PvE and the gacha. Take it if you are a Douluo Dalu fan who wants the world on a phone and will play free at the slow pace. Skip it if you want an open world you explore rather than follow, character creation, English voices or a shop that stops short of $299.99.

Gameplay6Great combat and the series' spirit-ring system, wrapped in tap-to-navigate missions and slow cultivation.
Controls6Touch works; controller support is half there, with players jumping between pad and screen.
Replay value5A long story for fans, a daily MMO grind for everyone else; few choices, per June reviews.
Graphics & sound8Fully anime, stunning by reviewers' own word; voices in Chinese only and phones running hot.
Monetisation5Loot boxes, $299.99 items, Deluxe Packs by the dozen — pay heavy in PvE and the gacha.

Frequently asked questions

1

Can you play Soul Land: Awakening World offline?

No. It is an open-world MMORPG on 37Games' servers — other players in the world, duels, a gacha, loot boxes and daily events — and August 2026 reviews of black screens and endless loading are connection-time failures. Nothing on either store describes an offline mode; plan on a stable connection and the 3.7 GB download on Wi-Fi.

2

Is Soul Land: Awakening World pay to win?

Reviewers who otherwise like it say yes: a June 29, 2026 four-star calls it pay to win in PvE and the gacha, and another calls it pay heavy. Google Play prices items up to $299.99 and marks random items; the App Store lists Deluxe Packs from $0.99 to $19.99 and flags loot boxes. Free players get the full story at a slower cultivation pace. Prices vary by region.

3

What phone do you need for Soul Land: Awakening World?

iOS 13 or newer with 3.71 GB free, or Android 8.0 or newer. The floors are low but the reviews are not: a June 2026 Play review reports a Snapdragon phone overheating, and August App Store reviews describe a black screen at start and endless loading. Expect a recent mid-range phone to be the real minimum, and lower the graphics preset on anything older.

4

Can you play Soul Land: Awakening World with friends?

Yes — it is an MMORPG with a shared open world, duels and group content, and Google Play notes that users interact. The store pages do not detail guilds or raid sizes, and the reviews focus on the solo story. Cross-play between iOS and Android on the same server is standard for 37Games titles but not stated on the listing.

5

How long does Soul Land: Awakening World take?

Long, by design and by complaint. The story follows the series and reviewers say every step is slow — small experience gains, stamina limits, long dialogue at the start — so the campaign is weeks of daily sessions rather than a weekend. A June 2026 reviewer wished they could play all day instead of going to work, which is the pace the game expects.
